Pink Tutu Travels: A Whirlwind Through 1987, August 8th! (Post #3920)

Hello lovelies! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, back with another incredible adventure! This month, Magic Meg, my beautiful, pink-sparkling Shire steed with those gloriously golden hooves, took us back to August 8th, 1987.

I can't believe it's been another whole month since I last whizzed through time. I must admit, this one felt especially special. We were whisked off to a period filled with amazing ballet events! Oh, and let me tell you, 1987 was bursting with inspiration when it came to fashion! This pink-loving blogger was practically swooning over the neon colours, leggings, and fabulous hair. It truly was a glamorous era.

Right, back to our time travel adventures. We touched down in a little village in Derbyshire, where I picked up some gorgeous vintage fabrics – it turns out that 1987 had a surprising fascination with paisley prints, just perfect for making a custom tutu! My bag is now overflowing with exciting discoveries, which will soon be transforming my studio into a delightful patchwork of vintage fabrics and shimmering beads.

And now, the reason why August 8th, 1987 was such a fabulous journey... The Royal Ballet was in full swing with a production of 'Swan Lake'. Now, this isn't your average Swan Lake – this was the first time Anthony Dowell took on the role of the villainous Von Rothbart. This performance at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden was simply legendary.

Imagine it – a classic story spun with the elegant, yet darkly powerful performance of Anthony Dowell! It was like watching a storybook come to life.

The incredible dancers brought the music and the movements to life, leaving the audience breathless with every arabesque and pirouette. There was such intensity and passion in the performance; you could practically feel the weight of the story on the stage.

This particular Swan Lake holds a special place in my heart because, you guessed it, the costumes were a dream! Imagine, graceful tutus in shimmering silk, paired with intricately designed, opulent sets that drew you into the world of swans and magical beings. The entire theatre felt magical and enchanted.

But that's not all, lovelies! That very same day, right here in the UK, the Bolshoi Ballet graced the stage of London’s Royal Albert Hall with their breathtaking rendition of 'Giselle'. It was simply exquisite! The intricate storytelling, the delicate and powerful choreography, it was all perfect! This was Giselle on a scale I'd only ever dreamed of. It truly cemented why the Bolshoi Ballet are renowned across the world, with their iconic dance techniques and the ability to mesmerize audiences.

The 8th of August 1987 was a perfect blend of the elegance of classic ballet with a fresh dose of contemporary charm – just like me, really! You see, even back then, people were embracing the freedom and beauty of self-expression. They were bold, colourful, and passionate!

It seems my journey back to 1987 helped me appreciate a side of the ballet world I never knew existed. Not only did I gain new inspiration for my tutus and stage make-up, but I got to feel a connection with dancers from a time period steeped in artistry. It was just magic!

My lovely followers, I always love sharing my ballet adventures with you! And for those who wish to continue this journey with me, pop on over to www.pink-tutu.com – that's my ballet blog where I chronicle all of my incredible time travels.
