Pink Tutu Time Travels - Blog Post #3924: A Dashing December in Dance! 🩰✨

Hello my darling dancers! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, ready to whisk you off to a whirlwind of ballet brilliance from a dazzling December in the year 1987.

This month, dear readers, we’re taking a journey to the era of big hair, shoulder pads, and yes, the glorious reign of the tutu! The world of ballet was buzzing, and Magic Meg, my trusty steed with her shimmering pink coat, was chomping at the bit to get us there. My leather rucksack was polished, ready to gather tales and trinkets from the past, and, of course, I was sporting my favourite pink tutu. Pink is simply the perfect colour for a time-travelling ballerina, don’t you agree? It screams "fun", "energy", and "confidence".

A Glittering Premiere in New York City

We landed right smack-dab in the Big Apple on the 12th of December, and what a sight it was! New York City was all aglow, sparkling with holiday cheer, and the smell of roasted chestnuts filled the air. My first stop? The New York City Ballet!

You see, this very date marked the premiere of the grand ballet "Symphony in Three Movements" by Jerome Robbins, a piece inspired by Leonard Bernstein's thrilling symphony. Now, I have to tell you, my darlings, the New York City Ballet was absolutely smashing this season! The company had just completed a whirlwind tour across the nation and had returned home with renewed vigour.

Just imagine: intricate choreography that danced with the symphony’s vibrant emotions, powerful movements that echoed the symphony’s strength, and delicate, almost ethereal moments that whispered the symphony’s quiet moments. It was simply a feast for the senses! And oh, the tutus! Delicate and billowing, they were like swirls of chiffon, dancing alongside the movements of the dancers.

Across the Pond: The Ballet in the UK

Magic Meg galloped with me to the other side of the Atlantic, carrying me through the skies to a blustery December in Britain. Back home, in the Derbyshire countryside, we're gearing up for the Christmas season and what a treat!

The Royal Ballet was showcasing its incredible talents at the Royal Opera House. They were performing “Swan Lake”, a masterpiece that transports audiences to a world of magical enchantment. It’s a timeless classic with such a powerful message of love and sacrifice, and a ballet that always inspires awe. It was the perfect winter evening treat.

Speaking of inspiration, there’s a ballet event coming up that’s got me simply quivering with excitement! The Royal Ballet School was hosting their annual "A Christmas Festival", an incredible showcase of young ballet talent. Imagine, darling dancers, witnessing the budding stars of tomorrow take the stage!

The whole event has an air of joyful anticipation – not to mention the charming tradition of dancers performing in their holiday-themed costumes, it's a perfect blend of classical ballet and festive charm!

Fashion Through Time:

While we're on the subject of Christmas, let's talk ballet fashion, shall we? You know how much I adore a good tutu, and this time period just screams fabulous! We were seeing bold colours, daring patterns, and luxurious fabrics! And oh my, the leotards were practically works of art! We’re talking jewel tones, playful patterns, and a whole lot of shimmer. Ballet fashion was bold and expressive, reflecting the changing times.

Remember, my darlings, the best ballet style is a personal one. Find a tutu, a leotard, a dance dress that makes you feel confident and radiant. Own your style, be unapologetic, and, of course, rock that pink! It’s your time to shine!

What’s in store for next month's adventure?

Don’t worry, I'll let you in on a little secret, next month we’re heading back to the year 1920, and there’s a truly groundbreaking ballet happening! The ballet world was about to get shaken up, and you’ll not want to miss out! Be sure to check back for another delightful time-travelling adventure, darlings. Until then, keep dancing and remember, always rock a pink tutu!

Love,

Emma
