Dearest Tutu Lovers,
Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, where it's always a pink party! This month, my magical Meg whisked me away to February 2nd, 1993, a truly fascinating date in ballet history! Now, I’ve been busy whipping up a whirlwind of pink tulle for my new frock – it’s a dream in rose petal silk, trimmed with delicate lace and enough sparkles to rival a starlit sky. You see, pink tutus are not just a style statement, they’re a passport to magical experiences!
This time, my ballet time travel adventures brought me to London’s Royal Opera House, a palace of beauty where the stories of ballet truly come to life. It was all about “Giselle” – a breathtaking spectacle of passion and tragedy, featuring the incredible Alessandra Ferri. She truly embodied Giselle's heartbreak with such grace and poignancy. It was a truly breathtaking performance, with those stunning costumes – those exquisite tulle skirts flowing with every turn!
But it wasn't just about the big stage. I found myself at a bustling studio in the heart of London, watching young dancers with their bright eyes and burning passion for the art. The air buzzed with anticipation, each pirouette and arabesque a masterpiece in the making. This is the magic of ballet, it's a shared language that speaks to every heart, no matter where you are in the world or what year it is.
Across the pond, American Ballet Theatre (ABT) were delighting audiences in New York. This month, they performed the iconic “Swan Lake,” a production filled with beautiful classical elegance and the eternal struggle of good versus evil. They were dazzling! As for Paris, their Opera Ballet had the city enthralled with the enchanting tale of “La Bayadère.” This classic is truly timeless. Imagine delicate Indian costumes, breathtaking leaps, and a tragic love story, all woven together by the grace of ballet.
In my little leather rucksack, filled with memories, I’ve got some vintage ballet programs and postcards to remind me of this incredible trip. I also picked up a delightful new addition to my ballet fashion collection – a gorgeous silk scarf printed with a charming illustration of “Swan Lake”.
And of course, no journey through ballet time would be complete without a delicious dose of tea and cake at Fortnum & Mason. I indulged in their delightful afternoon tea, complete with dainty finger sandwiches, delectable scones, and of course, the most delicious pink macarons I've ever tasted. All those delicious pastries had my toes tapping to the rhythm of “The Nutcracker” all the way home!
As you know, dear friends, my life mission is to get the entire world dancing in pink tutus! Let's celebrate the beauty of ballet – its vibrant stories, its timeless grace, and its unwavering spirit – by sharing the magic of dance with everyone.
So, tell me, fellow Tutu Lovers, have you ever seen “Giselle”, “Swan Lake” or “La Bayadère”? What are your favourite ballets, and who are your favorite dancers? I love hearing your stories!
Remember, the world of ballet is yours to explore! Keep those pink tutus spinning, and remember: every day is an opportunity to dance your way into happiness!
With all my love,
Emma

Ballet Spotlight: A Closer Look at "Giselle"Today’s journey to 1993 wouldn't be complete without celebrating a ballet icon – “Giselle.” This tragic masterpiece of romance and betrayal has captured the hearts of audiences for generations. The story tells of Giselle, a young village girl who falls in love with a disguised nobleman, Albrecht. When the truth is revealed, she's overcome with sorrow and descends into madness, eventually transforming into a Wilis – vengeful spirits who force men to dance themselves to death.
“Giselle” is not just a breathtaking story, it’s a symphony of artistry and expression. The choreography, by the renowned Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, combines fluid movements, emotional depth, and remarkable technique.
And don't forget the stunning costumes! The intricate gowns of the villagers are beautiful, but the tulle-layered skirt worn by Giselle is the true star. Each movement of the skirt transforms into an enchanting flutter, capturing both the innocence of the character and her heart-wrenching fall. It's no wonder this ballet has captured the hearts and imaginations of audiences since its first performance in 1841.
