Hello darling ballet bunnies! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, Pink Tutu Travels! I'm Emma, your friendly neighbourhood time-travelling ballerina, and this is post number 3988! (Do keep up, dearies, I've been travelling for quite a while!) Today, I'm taking you all the way back to 4th April 1993, and to a rather fabulous night at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. Oh, my darlings, the Bolshoi! The very thought makes my heart flutter like a hummingbird! And let me tell you, this trip was a real highlight for my collection of ballet treasures!
Now, as you know, my time-travelling steed is the magnificent Magic Meg - a stunning shire horse, with the most gorgeous pink sparkle to her coat, golden hooves and a snow-white mane and tail. It wouldn't be a ballet time-travel trip without a little glamour, would it? So, imagine, me, a twirling, pink tutu-clad ballerina, scampering through time atop my beautiful horse! What a sight, eh?
Now, imagine arriving in 1993 Moscow, the cobbled streets bustling with life. The smell of samovars, the beautiful onion domes, it was a sight for sore eyes. And it was also a little bit chilly - something we're not used to here in sunny Derbyshire, I tell you! But fear not, dear friends, because for a special ballet occasion like this, I wore my super cosy, cashmere pink cardigan with the cutest little ballet-shoe buttons. Honestly, nothing is better for a dash of fashion whilst time travelling, even through a chilly Moscow.
We made our way to the magnificent Bolshoi Theatre - oh my, what a magnificent place! This theatre, my dears, is the absolute epitome of opulence and drama, just like the Bolshoi ballerinas. The stage lights, the red velvet seating, the smell of anticipation...I could practically hear the first strains of the music in my head.
The performance this night was a real treat, a revival of "Swan Lake", the story of the lovely Princess Odette and the evil sorcerer, von Rothbart, for all those new to ballet, dears. And let me tell you, it was nothing short of spectacular! The choreography was graceful and intricate, the music both melancholic and powerful. You know I love a dramatic bit of story-telling, my dears, and Swan Lake always takes me to a new place with its drama, sadness, and love. I could have watched it for hours, lost in the artistry of it all!
After the performance, the streets buzzed with excited whispers. Ballet is something that everyone gets excited about, darlings! The energy was incredible, a joy to behold! Everyone was discussing their favourite moment of the performance, their opinions of the dancers, their outfits - everything ballet! It made me realise how truly global and universal ballet truly is.
And my bag? My rucksack - where I collect all my lovely ballet treasures - it's already filled to the brim with tickets, programmes, even a little bit of ballet fashion that I snagged! A small silk scarf, all adorned with swirling ballerinas, very elegant!
I tell you, there is something truly special about ballet. It transcends language, cultures, even time. Every time I travel through the past, I'm amazed at how passionately people are drawn to ballet, a constant thread across history. And the Bolshoi? My goodness, a dream come true for any ballet fanatic, my darlings!
What ballet shows will I visit next, you ask? You'll have to wait for my next blog, darling! But I promise it'll be full of all things ballet, full of colour, joy, and of course, plenty of pink tutus! Don't forget, dear ballet bunnies, to spread the love of pink tutus! Let’s see the world awash with a splash of ballet love!
See you next month for a brand new blog, from your pink tutu time-travelling blogger,
Emma
