Hello darlings! It's Emma, your pink tutu-loving time traveller, here, ready to whisk you away on another whimsical journey! This month, we're swirling back to December 1997, a time when the world was abuzz with the magic of ballet.
I always find it so fascinating to look back and see how the world of ballet was evolving and, my darlings, December 1997 was no exception! My dear Meg (you know, my magnificent pink-sparkling shire horse with the golden hooves, she's just a dream!) trotted us to Paris for a whirlwind of inspiration. The City of Lights, it’s simply divine, especially when the stage is ablaze with the artistry of ballet. We were there for a breathtaking performance of "La Bayadère" at the Palais Garnier, an opulence of a building, the opulence of the costumes - a veritable ballet-lovers dream. Just imagine, shimmering gold and the softest blush pinks twirling around the stage! It had my toes tapping and heart pounding!
Back in London, things were just as magical. The Royal Ballet were gracing the stage at the Royal Opera House, and the “Swan Lake" production was an absolute spectacle. Tutus fluttering, the elegance of the ballerinas, and that soaring music – oh, how it fills your soul!
We also journeyed to New York City, a true ballet powerhouse! This is the place where you just know something magical is about to happen. We saw a show called “The Sleeping Beauty”, an enchanting story and oh, such beautiful tutus. The ballet itself was as ethereal as a summer dream! But my true thrill was meeting with the amazing Twyla Tharp, a legend of dance! You’d think I was meeting the Queen of Hearts, I was so giddy! She’s truly an inspiration and we talked about ballet’s influence on the world – she really sparked something in my soul. I feel empowered, darling, empowered to spread my own tutu magic!
My rucksack was stuffed full with treasures – a precious copy of "Swan Lake" (my favorite ballet) with the original script and notes from the legendary Mikhail Fokine! I couldn’t resist snapping up a beautiful silk shawl from a little Parisian shop, and the scent of the perfumery lingered in my bag - the memory of this time in Paris! I’ve also jotted down some fascinating stories I’ve heard from people, about how the world saw dance in 1997. The passion and the dedication, it is simply inspirational!
My goal, darling, my dearest readers, is to bring the spirit of this era to every corner of the world, and I'm always looking for new and creative ways to do so. It might be with a showstopping tutu performance, a delightful ballet class, or perhaps a heartwarming time-travelling blog post like this. Remember, each one of you holds the potential to sparkle. So don't be afraid to embrace your inner ballerina and dance with joy, wherever you may be.
Until next month, let's all strive to spread the magic of ballet and, of course, make the world a bit more pink, one tutu at a time!
XOXO
Emma, your pink tutu time-travelling ballerina!
