Hello darlings, Emma here! It’s the 10th of October 1999, and let me tell you, the world of ballet is absolutely fizzing! I’ve just arrived from a magnificent trip to the Paris Opera Ballet, where I witnessed the most captivating performance of ‘Swan Lake’ I’ve ever seen. My darling Magic Meg, my pink sparkling shire horse with those gorgeous golden hooves and flowing mane, took me through the French countryside on a moonlit ride, the air fragrant with jasmine. Pure magic!
Before I tell you all about Paris, I just must share this! Remember I told you about my little ballet fashion venture, how I want everyone to embrace the joy of a pink tutu? Well, today’s news is completely pink-tastic! There’s a brand new boutique opening in London's West End called ‘Tutulicious!’ Can you believe it? It’s entirely devoted to tutus - imagine the sheer joy! They're offering a huge range of designs and fabrics, everything from classic ‘Swan Lake’ tutus to funky, modern ones. And they've got an amazing selection of pink, of course!
I'm already planning a shopping trip next time I’m back in London. After all, a pink tutu needs to be treated with care and a lovely shop like ‘Tutulicious’ is just the place to find accessories, too - pink tights, diamante hair clips, sparkly shoes - oh, my head’s swirling! I’ve just got to find some way to sneak my leather rucksack filled with my favourite ballet finds in there...maybe Magic Meg can lend a hoof!
Back to Paris now, darlings! The performance was truly sensational. The dancers at the Paris Opera Ballet were graceful as swans, powerful like knights, their movements like poetry. My dear Magic Meg settled right down, quietly observing, and afterwards, I was lucky enough to meet the prima ballerina herself. She's so incredibly talented - such delicate hands, such an incredible stage presence! And she was wearing the most exquisite pink tutu. I just had to ask her about it and, she told me it was a gift from the costume designer, a special design just for her. I got my pen and sketchbook out, sketching it as she explained the detail - beautiful swirls of pink silk, a cascade of shimmering rhinestones…it’s the most beautiful thing!
Oh, the French have such a romantic attitude towards dance, it's just like a scene from a fairytale. They were absolutely captivated by the dancers' artistry and grace, their expressions filled with wonder. Afterwards, as we enjoyed a charming little cafe au lait, the cafe owner - a darling man, so chic and French, explained that they were lucky to have such talented dancers and such an amazing tradition of ballet in their city. I told him I had been to London’s Royal Ballet, which he found quite fascinating as it is a more classical and refined style. And there I was, discussing ballet across Europe!
But enough about the ballet world's lovely Europeans for now… Oh, it is truly delightful, how the ballet is a universal language, no matter the time period or country you’re in, the passion for this form of expression is absolutely incredible!
Anyway, back to my own time travel... I’ve just packed my favourite ballet items from Paris into my rucksack: a beautiful silk scarf, a tiny miniature ballerina with her hair pulled up in a perfect ballerina bun, and a pamphlet with information about the famous dancers I saw perform, all treasures to be stored safely within my rucksack for future inspiration!
Now, for the real pièce de résistance! We’re going on an adventure to New York City for an amazing ballet show, ‘The Nutcracker’. It's been playing there every year for almost 100 years, and everyone is raving about this year's performance, especially the famous scene where Clara, the ballerina, swirls around with her beautiful prince while the sparkling Sugar Plum Fairy watches. A perfect end to a whirlwind tour of ballet across the globe!
Speaking of ballet, let’s talk about some exciting happenings around the world. There’s a new production of ‘Giselle’ being performed by the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow, and everyone’s buzzing about the incredible athleticism of the lead dancer, Nikolai Tsiskaridze! He's famous for his amazing leaps and incredible strength, and I cannot wait to watch him perform! Oh, darling, just imagine that, jumping into a tutu to a new city for ballet performances every month with a sparkling pink horse? I am so grateful!
