Hello, darlings! Emma here, your favourite tutu-wearing time traveller, and welcome to another whirlwind of ballet history on www.pink-tutu.com! It's December 1999, and oh my, the excitement is absolutely bubbling over like champagne in a crystal glass! ✨
As you all know, this month marks the beginning of the holiday season - and nothing screams festive joy more than a sparkling pink tutu! It’s the perfect season to be twirling through the cobbled streets, Christmas lights twinkling above, the scent of cinnamon and gingerbread wafting through the air… And, of course, the absolute must-do for every true ballerina - attending a fabulous festive ballet performance! 🎄
So, what did the world of ballet have to offer on this particular day? Well, let’s climb aboard Magic Meg, my trusty steed, a dazzling pink Shire with a white mane and tail like spun moonlight, and set off on a little time-travelling adventure…
London Calling!
Our first stop is London, darling! It's always such a vibrant, theatrical hub - think glittering West End stages, world-class ballet companies, and more exquisite ball gowns than you could shake a feather boa at! 🎭
Tonight, the Royal Opera House is alight with anticipation as the Royal Ballet unveils a revival of Kenneth MacMillan’s "Romeo and Juliet"! Imagine - all the tragic passion and drama set against a backdrop of Tchaikovsky's soul-stirring score. A dream, really! I’m already picturing the iconic balcony scene, the Juliet’s silk-smooth white gown, Romeo's elegant leaps… Absolutely captivating!
Speaking of "captivating", we just can’t leave London without stopping by the Sadler’s Wells Theatre for a spot of modern dance brilliance. Today, it's the legendary Rambert Dance Company captivating the audience with "The Rite of Spring" – a dynamic and challenging piece that I hear is both powerful and truly thought-provoking! ✨
Taking Flight to New York!
Across the pond to New York City! Ah, what an iconic metropolis – where the sparkle never ends! 🤩 As a real aficionado of the "dance world," I've heard whispers of an upcoming performance by the New York City Ballet. We've got to make our way to the Lincoln Center to check out the magical "The Nutcracker" - always a Christmas season must-see!
Magical Ballet Fashion
But before I immerse myself in the enchanting stories unfolding on stage, there's a vital chore to be undertaken – a pilgrimage to The Shoebox! The pinnacle of dance fashion! 👠 I must confess, my sweet friends, it’s just not a real ballet outing without a visit to this exquisite haven of ballerina delights! They stock all manner of divine costumes, beautiful tutus in every shade imaginable (my current favourite - the pastel lilac one, darling!)…and sparkly shoes, galore! 🤩 Can’t go on a time travel adventure without the right footwear, now, can I?
Derbyshire Darling
You see, you can take the girl out of Derbyshire, but you can't take the Derbyshire out of the girl, 😉 I love coming home - I miss my friends, the lovely cafes, and all the amazing shops in our town of Bakewell. They're great for finding little vintage treasures, especially those stunning handmade pink feather boas for my tutu collection - I am an absolute sucker for feather boas! 🥰
Back in 1999, there's a special event that caught my eye – "The Nutcracker" is gracing the stage at the Derby Theatre, performed by Derbyshire Youth Ballet! Just lovely - It’s the perfect event to bring our family together and share the magic of ballet with the youngest generation. The magic of dance knows no boundaries! 🩰 I absolutely adore those youngsters' boundless enthusiasm - so heartwarming! 🥰
Back in the Present, Back on Pink-Tutu.com
