Post #4084: The Glamorous Glimmer of 2001, or, My Tutu and the Dawn of the New Millennium 🩰

Hello darlings! It's your favourite tutu-clad time-traveller Emma, back with another fabulous blog post for you all, fresh from the time-hopping saddle of my magnificent pink mare, Magic Meg! This month, we're taking a whimsical trip back to 2001 – the dawn of a new millennium! Imagine, ladies – it feels like yesterday! And let me tell you, even then, ballet was absolutely sizzling!

I’ve been back to Derbyshire and just loved having a proper cuppa with mum, before hopping on Magic Meg for our next ballet adventure!

I am positively thrilled to be writing this post for you lovelies from the very year my pink-tutu loving journey started. Let’s take a nostalgic journey through this fantastic, glamorous, oh so pink 2001. This year really does feel like the perfect start to our fabulous pink journey together.

First, let’s pop into the ballet theatre. Just try to imagine how incredibly thrilling this time was – and let me tell you, I've seen it all – I was actually there to witness a world première, a real, live ballet creation, on April 6th. This gorgeous, captivating spectacle, choreographed by our lovely Liam Scarlett, brought "The Age of Anxiety" to life! It is a simply divine interpretation of a work by W.H. Auden with a brilliant musical score by Leonard Bernstein. And what a cast of absolute superstars, you’ve simply got to see it, if only for the extravagantly gorgeous tutus. You see darlings, my love of the tutu really started to take off when I saw this particular show – just imagine my pink tutu dreams taking shape and a very particular kind of shimmering glamour inspired by the pink-toned dancers – oh my!

But before we venture any further back in time, a little reminder that all these fantastic, pink-tutu moments are generously funded by my oh-so-wonderful performances! And believe me, these lovely little gigs really make every sparkly moment possible, even finding a new little bit of ballet history for you here on pink-tutu.com! So much of ballet history happens live on stage in these performances. This year I even have a fabulous little one coming up on the 15th April in the delightful Royal Opera House where we can celebrate all things pink with this fabulous dance showcase.

Speaking of performances, I am positively giddy to share this next piece of 2001 ballet history with you all, my dearest pink tutu darlings – that's right, the “Royal Ballet” had such a special showing for us. This was, quite frankly, the most glorious ballet extravaganza – featuring “Le Corsaire” and “Jewels”. A dream-like, breathtaking, fabulous display of ballerina power, with some exquisite tutu-wear on display – I am positively giddy just thinking about it! Can you even imagine!

What would any ballet history blogger be without her very own fabulous little treasure hunt. Back to our lovely Royal Opera House in the UK, and guess what I’ve unearthed?! Another sparkling ballet masterpiece, just begging to be revisited! That's right my lovely ladies – on April 23rd, the beautiful ballet “Don Quixote” performed with such wonderful verve and charm. The story of Kitri, the ballerina, and her beautiful tutus just made this performance positively magical.

My friends, you just have to look for those little gems of the past and the glamour will never leave you, It is important, just like when we saw "The Age of Anxiety" or even “Don Quixote,” that you enjoy it all to the fullest – every gorgeous, pink-tutu adorned moment!

On my little journeys back to 2001, I have come across so many wonderful ballet treasures – so much glitz, glamour and glamour in every time-travelling moment – that my leather rucksack just can't get any fuller! You will just have to make do with this little peek into the wonderful ballet history I have uncovered so far! And what treasures I have collected for my very own pink-tutu filled little rucksack! From the ballet slippers and dance outfits to the incredible stories and gossip – there’s a treasure on every journey! So much history is out there!

Next time we journey together we will have so much more to explore in our ballet history together. So make sure you are here, pink-tutu clad darlings.

See you next month, and until then – dance on!

Your forever favourite ballet ballerina

Emma.
