Post #4111: July 2003 - A Ballet Blast From The Past!

Hello darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, back with another dazzling journey through ballet history! This month, my sparkly steed, Magic Meg, whisked me to the sunny summer of July 2003!

Oh my, the world was alive with so much fabulousness! It felt like every single day was filled with a joyous celebration of ballet. From the West End to Broadway, the world stage was ablaze with talent and stunning productions.

Speaking of talent, can we just swoon over "The White Knight" by Matz Ek, performed by English National Ballet? Talk about a graceful spectacle! The way the dancers floated across the stage in their ivory tutus was simply breathtaking.

Speaking of tutus... oh my, the fashions of 2003! Remember when all the ballerinas went wild for the tutu-over-a-dress look? It was like a modern twist on a classical ballerina’s ensemble. Imagine the fluffiness, the tulle, the pure elegance! Sigh. You can bet I had a peek in a few vintage shops to snag some fabulous treasures. Imagine my excitement when I found a perfectly preserved pink tulle tutu – just my style! It’s going straight into my rucksack. I simply must have it back in my 21st century closet!

Now, let’s not forget the men! They were keeping up with the trends in a big way. My absolute favourite ballet in 2003? Well, how about a vibrant and modern performance called “Afterlife”, with the charismatic Arthur Pita taking the stage. He was dazzling in a powerful piece exploring themes of life and loss. And you know me, I love a story. Especially one that’s told through beautiful movement.

Now, the real fun begins – what was on in July 2003?! Well, first up, we had the incredible "Royal Ballet" in London. Imagine watching those talented dancers in all their glory!

Remember "The Sleeping Beauty"? This gorgeous ballet was on in London, as was "La Fille mal Gardée". Oh my, how I loved that delicate romance with its quaint country charm. They even held a special screening of “The Rite of Spring” on the big screen in a massive, grand celebration! It was an era bursting with vibrant, daring productions.

Across the pond in the Big Apple, the American Ballet Theatre had the New York premiere of a "Le Corsaire" production, complete with those amazing swirling costumes that make the show so visually mesmerizing! There was also “Romeo and Juliet” showing – you just can’t beat a little classic ballet, can you? The dancers’ grace was utterly entrancing! I have to say, July 2003 really was a ballet paradise.

Speaking of paradise, we’ve got to discuss New York City Ballet because they were rocking out the most amazing show - “Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux” with Paloma Herrera. Her dancing was pure fire! Talk about grace and strength in every movement.

You see, the year 2003 had it all - the classics, the new, the groundbreaking!

Don't worry, darlings, Magic Meg and I are already planning our next trip through time. Until then, I’ll be spending my days lost in my own world of tulle and dreams, getting my fashion fix, and daydreaming about pink tutus, always hoping to share this love with all of you. You can find more exciting details about these performances and many more in the Pink-Tutu.com archives. Don't forget, my little angels, every single one of you is born to wear a pink tutu! Remember that! See you soon!

Stay glamorous! Emma x
