Hello my lovelies! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, and today we're whisking you off on another adventure, straight to the year 1847, my dears! This month, I'm exploring the glorious world of ballet in the Victorian era, so hold onto your tiaras, because things are about to get oh-so-chic! πβ¨
Now, for this trip, I've donned my most delicate pink tutu, adorned with lace and pearls β it's a classic design, reminiscent of the flowing gowns of the period, and I must say, it looks absolutely divine against the backdrop of this charming era. π©°πΈ
My trusty steed, the magnificent Magic Meg, is all sparkly, her pink coat gleaming with a dusting of glitter, and her golden hooves leaving a trail of shimmer as we gallop through time. π¦π« Meg is a true lady, always perfectly groomed with her flowing white mane and tail, a proper vision of elegance, just like the ballerinas of this time.
We're headed straight for Paris, the centre of ballet's universe in the 1840s, darling! Imagine the excitement! It was a time when the city buzzed with excitement for dance. Iβm already envisioning a Parisian cafe with steaming cups of chocolate and delicious pastries. Can you smell it, my darlings? Oh, I canβt wait to soak up the atmosphere! βοΈπ«
Oh, and what is a ballet trip without a peek into the most incredible performances of the day? My favourite dance company in 1847 was the renowned Ballet of the Paris Opera! Can you believe they were putting on Giselle?! Can't wait to see Carlotta Grisi, one of the biggest stars, and the absolute Queen of Romantic Ballet, dancing in this legendary ballet! π€©
Speaking of fashion, the era was obsessed with dainty femininity! Long skirts and lacy corsets were the order of the day, darling. The delicate tutus of the Romantic ballet were so light, so airy, and graceful, just like the women who wore them! Think about it: Romantic ballet and pink tutus are a match made in heaven! π
As I venture through this wondrous time period, my trusty leather rucksack is filled to the brim with treasures: antique ballet programmes, beautiful drawings of dancers, even a vintage costume worn by a famous ballerina - oh la la, how exciting is that?! β¨ My goal is to learn all about the stories of the incredible women who created this wonderful art form. π
Back at the blog HQ, my research shows that July 1847 was filled with exciting events in the world of ballet:
- The celebrated ballerina Marie Taglioni is enjoying her retirement and is still held up as a legend, a true queen of ballet! I imagine her having elegant afternoon tea with her friends and colleagues.
- Another ballet star, Fanny Cerrito, who once famously partnered with Marie Taglioni, was making waves across Europe. I'll be searching for her performances!
- In Vienna, the famous Hofopernhaus is a melting pot of cultural events. It would have been fascinating to experience ballet in this dazzling city!
Oh, I'm feeling all sorts of emotions, a mix of awe and pure, girly excitement, just waiting to discover even more wonders. And remember, I'm here to make sure everyone embraces the pink tutu - it's all about spreading joy, love, and beauty in all its fabulous forms! π
So, stay tuned, darlings! Next month, weβll delve even deeper into this exciting world of ballet in 1847, filled with sparkling costumes, amazing performances, and the very essence of that graceful and timeless elegance. Until then, letβs embrace our inner ballerina! πβ¨
Yours in pink,
Emma xx
