Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, Pink-Tutu.com! It's Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-loving, time-travelling ballerina, and this month, I've had a simply sensational adventure! I packed my trusty leather rucksack, threw a few extra pink ribbons in my hair, and whisked myself off to Paris, the City of Lights! The Eiffel Tower sparkling in the distance, oh la la, it was absolutely divine!
As you all know, March is a big month for ballet. And in 2012, I discovered there was something truly special going on in the Parisian ballet scene. Now, before I reveal all, let's take a moment to imagine the scene - Magic Meg (my darling pink shimmering Shire horse with those glorious golden hooves!) was snorting and pawing the cobblestone streets. A gust of wind sent my pink tulle billowing in the Parisian breeze. I felt a bit like a character from a classic ballet, except... I was in modern-day Paris!
Now, you may ask, Emma, what in the world is going on in Paris in 2012? And what could possibly have tempted you to leave Derbyshire, the home of all things quaint and cosy? Well, darlings, the Paris Opera Ballet, the pinnacle of classical dance in the city, was hosting a celebration - the premiere of "L’Enfant et les Sortilèges". Oh my, this ballet tells the story of a naughty little boy who gets lost in a magical world and, well, let's just say it's absolutely enchanting!
You see, the "Enfant et les Sortilèges" is a French-speaking ballet, and what I discovered was the brilliance of the 1925 score, a wonderful collaboration between Maurice Ravel and Colette! This isn't just a ballet, it's an experience - the choreography brings out the emotions and personalities of the characters so brilliantly, I could almost feel the magic bubbling in the air! It was all about the stories behind the characters and I swear I felt the very heart of France pulsating through every turn and leap!
While watching this stunning performance, I had the most brilliant idea, which I must tell you about! Now, dear readers, we all love pink tutus, wouldn't you agree? It's about that playful sense of fantasy, that air of whimsical wonder, the very essence of being a ballerina. So, wouldn't it be splendid to make pink tutus the new Parisian chic? Imagine: women twirling through the cobbled streets, maybe even waltzing around the Champs-Elysees in these beautiful, flowing pink masterpieces. Imagine a world where the color pink doesn't just represent elegance, but also joy, light, and an undeniable sense of joie de vivre!
Speaking of fashion, darling readers, what are you all wearing this spring? I found some of the most beautiful ballet shoes and tutus while I was in Paris. Let me tell you, their shops were positively bursting with colourful creations - imagine my joy! The colours were vibrant, the materials oh-so-soft, and the intricate details were a testament to Parisian artistry! I purchased a stunning lavender tulle tutu for myself, and another, an oh-so-stylish hot pink one for Magic Meg. She looks simply ravishing, darlings, utterly elegant.
And let me tell you, darling readers, this Parisian experience wasn’t just about the ballet and shopping - it was about immersing myself in the very heart of this historical city! I wandered along the banks of the Seine, marvelled at the grandeur of Notre Dame, and took a little ride on the carousel in the Jardin du Luxembourg. Every little corner I turned held a new wonder!
As always, I came away with a treasure trove of ballet items for my collection. A vintage ballet poster advertising “L’Enfant et les Sortilèges" and a delicately beaded ribbon, believed to have been worn by a dancer from the original Parisian Opera Ballet. This collection, darling readers, will inspire so many blog posts in the months to come!
So, here’s the plan! My dearest readers, keep watching my blog, Pink-Tutu.com, and join me on my monthly adventures! Who knows, maybe next month we'll take a whirl through time to discover what magic the ballet world held in another era? Until then, may your dance steps be filled with grace, and your tutus (of course) be pink!
Au revoir, lovelies!
XOXO, Emma.
