My fabulous leather rucksack, shimmering with silver buckles and filled with treasures from our time-traveling adventures, is bursting with exciting discoveries from this extraordinary month in the world of ballet. Itās already overflowing with programme flyers, handwritten notes from esteemed dancers, and even a beautiful feather boa from a truly captivating performance! Oh, Iām bursting to tell you all about it. Letās get this show on the road, darlings!
The English National Ballet Takes to the Stage
We began our journey back in England, where the English National Ballet, a troupe of talented and dazzling performers, were getting ready for their July production of āThe Sleeping Beautyā. You know how much I love a fairytale! Imagine those sumptuous costumes and that magical music, oh, simply heavenly! The ballet was a stunning blend of grace and technical prowess, and, from my time-traveling vantage point, the London Coliseum was simply buzzing with anticipation! My little rucksack was practically bursting with programme flyers from that special performance!
A Whirlwind of Stars in The Netherlands
We then made a swift gallop on Magic Megās shimmering back over to the Netherlands, where the annual Holland Dance Festival was in full swing. This extravaganza brings the worldās greatest dance companies together for an incredible two-week celebration of choreography. Now, darlings, this was simply delightful! My diary overflows with handwritten notes about dazzling performances and mind-blowing choreography. I must say, I've got quite a crush on contemporary dance since witnessing this spectacular! I could write pages and pages about each dance and performer but thereās so much to explore so Iāll have to share my notes on contemporary dance another time.
New York, New York, Itās A Dance Miracle
Across the pond, we sashayed to the breathtaking City That Never Sleeps ā New York. In this ballet-loving metropolis, a stunning showcase of dance talent was happening at the Jacobās Pillow Dance Festival ā an annual affair brimming with creativity. The festival, darlings, is truly a mecca for dance lovers, featuring workshops, masterclasses, and the most phenomenal dance performances from around the world. Just imagine, the worldās finest ballet companies gathered under one roof ā a veritable paradise for those of us who love to twirl! My notebook is chock-full of fascinating tidbits and snippets from this dance-filled dreamland. Oh, the inspiration is just⦠swirling in my head!
A Touch of History: Remembering The Bolshoi
Whilst in New York, we felt a tug on our hearts ā a longing for balletās illustrious past. So we hopped on our sparkling pink steed, Magic Meg, and galloped through the cobblestone streets, heading towards the iconic Lincoln Center to revisit the illustrious Bolshoi Theatre. The iconic Moscow ballet company has captivated audiences for generations, and, while in July 2014, the company celebrated an astounding 241 years! You see, darling, history isnāt just dusty old books, but living stories carried on through performance.

Across the pond, in New York, the New York City Ballet was putting on an utterly fantastic season finale ā the ballet production, āBallo della Regina,ā with choreograph by Peter Martins. My imagination just goes wild thinking of that beautiful dance, so filled with regal elegance and dazzling energy, oh, it must have been stunning! - The Royal Ballet in Rehearsal
Meanwhile, back home in England, the Royal Ballet was in a flurry of rehearsals! They were deep in practice, preparing for an upcoming production ā "Romeo and Juliet"! Now, darling, I've simply gotta go back in time to see it! āRomeo and Juliet" is such a timeless, heart-wrenching tale ā Iām sure those talented dancers made every emotion come alive with grace and emotion!
