Hello, darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina time traveller, and welcome back to my monthly jaunt through history! This month, we're galloping back to March 2017, the month where a certain magical pink horse named Meg and I were in for a right old adventure, discovering some amazing ballet gems hidden in the annals of time!
Now, before we delve into our latest ballet escapade, a quick reminder to all you fabulous fashionistas: it's time to embrace the pink! A sprinkle of pink tulle is all you need to feel the magical energy of a ballerina. Trust me, a pink tutu will make you feel like you can fly!
But, enough about tutus (although, how could I ever speak enough about them, really?), let's get back to our time-traveling adventure. Now, in March 2017, the ballet world was buzzing with excitement! The Royal Ballet was putting on a magnificent performance of Swan Lake, featuring the legendary Sylvie Guillem in her swan-tastic swansong, and you know how much I adore a classic like Swan Lake!
Back in Derbyshire, though, my life was a bit less glitzy â I was busy perfecting my pirouettes in the local studio, saving every penny for my next show. Did you know that the London Palladium had just launched The Greatest Dancer? I nearly squealed with joy when I saw that - imagine being able to dance for the whole world to see!
And speaking of shows, the world of ballet in March 2017 was simply teeming with fabulous performances. From the stunning Cinderella ballet at the Royal Opera House in London to Giselle taking the stage at the Vienna State Opera, there were enchanting ballets taking flight all over the globe!
As Iâm writing this, a thought comes to mind... it feels like I am surrounded by inspiration for a future Pink Tutu Danceathon â what a lovely idea, don't you think?
After all my hard work perfecting my steps, I realised that my monthly jaunt to the past couldn't wait another day. The moment I stepped onto Magic Meg, my pink shimmering horse, a rush of energy enveloped me. I grabbed my trusty leather rucksack, ready to collect ballet treasures and stories from March 2017.
And wouldnât you know it, we galloped straight into the heart of Londonâs West End! There, the magical aura of The Book of Mormon and The Bodyguard plays surrounded us, with every theatre lit up like a magical beacon!
Oh, how I wish I could dance like the West End performers! They possess such confidence and charm, their every move captivating the hearts of every audience member. I'm already plotting a special ballet inspired by their performance - a dance thatâll capture the vivacious spirit of the West End.
Speaking of theatre, a real highlight was a trip to the opulent Royal Opera House. Imagine, soaring ceilings, velvet seats, and the anticipation hanging heavy in the air â the magic of the theatre simply mesmerized me! The entire space felt like an elegant dance, flowing from the ornate stage to the twinkling chandeliers.
That very evening, I got to watch The Dream at the Royal Opera House, a beautiful and mystical ballet that enchanted me completely. Every twist and turn of the choreography was a new story waiting to unfold. I was even inspired to weave some elements into my next show â just wait until you see it!
During our journey through 2017, we took a short hop to The National Theatre in London, a space brimming with artistic passion. It was a perfect glimpse into the vibrant creativity of the theatrical world. It left me yearning for a collaboration with the National Theatre - perhaps a dance interpretation of Shakespeare's âA Midsummer Nightâs Dream,â where tutus twirl alongside fairies and elves, or maybe a ballet inspired by the play âHamletâ - with a whole new interpretation of the classic tragedy. Just imagine!
And my journey wouldn't be complete without a visit to some of the world's most iconic ballet studios. This month, it was The Royal Ballet School. The atmosphere hummed with the rhythm of ballet, as young dancers honed their craft with discipline and dedication.
Just observing their determination fueled my passion even further â if they can dream big, so can I!
After the exciting visit, Magic Meg and I took a swift trip to The Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow. Can you even imagine? The heart of ballet, a world of grandiosity, and where some of the greatest dancers of our time honed their craft! Every corner oozed artistry and history, reminding me of the profound legacy that dance holds.
But wait, it gets better! In Moscow, I stumbled upon an amazing little vintage boutique that was selling the most stunning pink tutus! It was like stepping into a wonderland. I simply had to indulge in some vintage ballet fashion â think lace and ribbon, soft tulle, and a sprinkle of old-world charm. This vintage gem is a definite must for my next performance â I'm already plotting a choreographed number dedicated to the enchantment of the vintage tutu.
Our whirlwind ballet adventures wouldnât be complete without a dash of high fashion! We ventured to the magical world of Parisian couture â yes, we were off to the city of lights to indulge in the divine world of ballet fashion! Now, you know how much I love a chic little tutu â well, let me tell you, Paris never fails to disappoint! The ateliers overflowed with exquisite fabrics and elegant designs. Every detail â from a sparkling sequin to a perfect fold of fabric â whispered of artistry and elegance.
Of course, I couldnât resist grabbing some of these treasures to inspire my next show. And I know youâre all going to love it - especially since my latest pink tutu collection will be unveiled there, right on the stage of the Theatre des Champs-ĂlysĂ©es. This iconic theatre is known for its impeccable performances and captivating glamour. Itâs the perfect backdrop to showcase a whole collection inspired by the beauty of Parisian ballet.
Speaking of iconic theatres, I couldn't leave Paris without a peek at the world-famous Paris Opera. It was the very place where the famed French ballerina Marie Camargo took the world by storm in the 1700s. Seeing the legendary space, I could imagine Marie dancing on that very stage - her innovative choreography pushing the boundaries of ballet, and shaping the future of dance itself!
All in all, March 2017 was an adventure unlike any other. My ballerina heart felt overflowing, as we waltzed through historical performances, captured the energy of some of the worldâs most iconic ballet studios and discovered magical fashion gems hidden away in time. This was a ballet journey I will never forget!
Remember, my lovely dancers, embrace the power of pink, dream big, and don't be afraid to dance your way through history!
See you all next month for more pink-tutu time travelling adventures!
Yours always,
Emma xoxo
