Pink Tutu Travels: August 2017 - A Journey to Ballet's Golden Age

Post Number: 4280

Hello lovelies! Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-clad time traveller, ready to whisk you off on another magical journey through ballet history. As always, my trusty steed Magic Meg, my magnificent pink sparkling Shire horse with those glorious golden hooves, is patiently waiting by the stables, ready to gallop us to August 2017!

Today, I'm particularly excited because, oh my goodness, you just wouldn't believe what a wonderful ballet treat awaits us! It's an era bursting with incredible talent, elegance and captivating stories. And you can trust me, darling, the fashion is just divine. We're about to take a dip into the "Golden Age of Ballet" – a period when the art form truly took flight!

Remember how I mentioned my goal is to get everyone wearing a pink tutu? Well, darling, let's just say, August 2017 might be a bit of a challenge! You see, ballet costumes are simply divine – layers upon layers of silk and tulle in dreamy pastel shades. Think floaty and ethereal! And I'm all for spreading the pink tutu love, of course, but for this particular time, we'll just have to let those stunning historical styles shine.

From Derbyshire to 2017 – Where Ballet Took Centre Stage

Leaving behind the rolling hills of Derbyshire, we whisk ourselves into the heart of August 2017. I can practically feel the electrifying buzz of excitement! The world of ballet is simply bubbling with energy! Imagine, darlings, you've got stars like Margot Fonteyn, Rudolf Nureyev, and Mikhail Baryshnikov gracing the stage! These are names that still echo with passion and inspiration, even today.

It's the time of iconic productions like "Swan Lake," "Giselle", and "La Bayadère", ballets that have become the classics we all adore! There's an exquisite grandeur, an unparalleled skill that makes my heart flutter. It's a period that shaped our modern ballet scene – an absolute treat to experience, believe me!

Let's Go Shopping!

Now, before we get lost in the ballet enchantment, I simply must share a little secret with you, my dearest readers. My love for ballet extends far beyond the stage. The world of ballet fashion, darling! Just divine! Every beautiful tutu, every intricate detail – a symphony of artistry waiting to be admired. In this era, the outfits are so wonderfully elaborate! We have layers and layers of shimmering silks, satin and lace – a fairytale come to life!

Let me paint a picture. We are standing outside the opulent Royal Opera House in London, gazing at the glamorous ballet dancers entering, dressed to the nines. And guess what, darling? You know I wouldn't miss a chance to snag some of these incredible vintage pieces for my ballet collection back at my Derbyshire home. The shop I always head to in August 2017 is hidden away on the bustling street, a delightful haven of exquisite costumes. It's brimming with elegance and vintage charm – my heart goes aflutter! I always leave with my rucksack full of stunning finds to preserve these precious snippets of ballet history.

A Starry Night at the Opera House

After a most splendid shopping spree, we're all set for an evening of breathtaking beauty. As always, I am attending a ballet performance – a special one at the Royal Opera House in London. Imagine the grandeur, the history, and the undeniable aura of talent! Tonight's show is "La Bayadère,'' an absolutely stunning and emotional journey that showcases the exquisite artistry of the "Golden Age."

And the story, oh the story! A temple dancer, a warrior, love, and betrayal, all intertwined in an incredibly compelling tale. This performance, you can be sure, will linger in my dreams for days to come.

The set, the costumes, and the performances simply steal the breath away. And yes, darling, I'll be savoring every minute, taking notes in my diary for my blog and capturing some precious snippets for my ever-growing collection back in Derbyshire.

Magic Meg – Our Faithful Companion

As I take one last glimpse of the ballet dancers gracefully performing "La Bayadère," I can feel a wave of nostalgia wash over me. But all too soon, the lights of London's opera house dim, signalling the end of another magical evening. Time to say goodbye to this incredible chapter in ballet history and whisk ourselves back home to the familiar embrace of Derbyshire.

And who better to take us back than Magic Meg, our trusty and most delightful steed. With her sparkly pink coat, golden hooves and majestic presence, she carries us back through time, weaving our journey back into our familiar present, but with a heart full of enchantment and memories.

As the moonlight paints our way home, I reflect upon the treasures I have collected, both physical and emotional. These moments, these journeys, these incredible stories, help shape my world and fuel my passion for everything pink and twirly!

I hope my travels inspire you, darlings, to explore your own passion for the art form, be it watching performances, attending classes, or simply getting lost in the wonder of a tutu. Don't be afraid to dream big! After all, there is a whole world of magical moments just waiting to be discovered, and I, for one, can't wait to embark on our next adventure.

Stay sparkly and always wear pink!

Emma
