Hello my lovely pink tutu enthusiasts! Emma here, your ballet-obsessed, time-travelling blogger, ready to whisk you away on another delightful trip through the wonderful world of ballet history! June is my favourite month, it always makes me feel so alive and energetic, and I just can’t resist sharing this energy with you through this month’s adventure!
I must tell you about my latest find, the most magnificent pink, sparkling Shire horse, Magic Meg, who will be joining me on my June journey! Oh my word, she’s just so majestic - her golden hooves, the flowing white mane and tail... a total fairytale. But even better, she loves ballet and has agreed to help me share my passion for the world! This month, Magic Meg has whisked me all around the world!
Now, you may be wondering why June is such a significant month in ballet history, well, my dears, it’s like the sunbeam through the theatre curtains. It’s filled with extraordinary stories and events which have helped to shape the glorious dance form we know and love. This year we have had a particular fascination with June 2021.
It all began with me leaping into Magic Meg’s pink and sparkly saddle, and with a swish of her shimmering mane, we were off to the heart of London in the early 20th century. And oh my, how ballet had blossomed!
London Ballet Mania!
There was a buzz about the theatre district. It seems everyone was captivated by ballet and Diaghilev's Ballets Russes had a real hold on the public. Imagine that, darling, it wasn't just our Derbyshire audiences who were mesmerised by these amazing dancers! It turns out that dancers like Vaslav Nijinsky and Anna Pavlova were creating dance history with their brilliant artistry, captivating the public's imagination! There were beautiful costumes and sets designed by some of the greatest artists of the day, it's like stepping into a whimsical dream. I just adore the colourful costumes. And what of ballet fashion? Oh, there were flowing tunics, exotic feathers, and delicate silken skirts - a kaleidoscope of colour and creativity. It was simply enchanting. I managed to slip a few elegant fabric swatches from an old programme into my rucksack, maybe it'll be a beautiful design element in my new Tutu Collection, my heart just beats for vintage pieces. I know that this 'fashion moment’ in history, will translate well for today’s dancers. Just a smidgen of the iconic Ballets Russes designs would make a real statement and look absolutely stunning on the stage!
Vienna Ballet Adventures
After an enchanting afternoon in London, we were whisked to Vienna! The grand Opera House was lit up like a fairytale castle and the Vienna State Ballet was in full swing, performing "Giselle," one of my absolute favourite ballets! It was such a dreamlike experience. It’s important for us to remember that, you see, ballet wasn't just about leaping and turning - it was about telling stories through movement, sharing emotions, and bringing music to life in such a wonderful way! As we sat in the balcony overlooking the stage, I took a long, slow sip of my sparkly pink cocktail - I'm never far away from a little ballet inspired indulgence!
Back Home in Derbyshire - Finding Inspiration
Now, although Magic Meg and I are passionate about ballet, we do like to take it slow, with long, restful days at home back in Derbyshire. The time travel takes a bit of energy, but it also allows us to find beautiful things right here on our doorstep. This time, I managed to catch a lovely, contemporary dance performance, right here in my little Derbyshire village. Now, you’re not going to believe it - one of the young dancers wore a pink tutu, oh my, the colour, the cut, the graceful flow. It really set me off thinking about my own pink tutu line and how to create styles for all shapes and sizes. There are so many women around the world ready to embrace this unique form of ballet self-expression and celebrate this beautiful dance form, from traditional classical to contemporary interpretations.
Ballet Dreams: What the Future Holds!
I’m always inspired by history. It just proves that ballet has such a wonderful ability to adapt, reinvent itself, and to shine on any stage! My biggest ambition is to encourage the world to wear pink tutus and celebrate our love for dance! Now, this may not be your traditional dream but I'm a true dreamer. Just imagine, wouldn't the world look like a ballet scene if everyone was wearing a pink tutu - just imagine, all those beautiful colours, swirls of fabric, and the happy faces. What could be more fabulous than that?!
So my darlings, what a glorious month June has been! It's a beautiful reminder that the history of ballet is a global affair, it belongs to everyone and deserves to be celebrated everywhere.
Till next month, keep shining bright and let your love for ballet inspire your dreams! And as always, remember, anything is possible when you put your heart into it!
