Pink Tutu Travels: Post 4335 – March 2022: From Victorian Elegance to 21st Century Ballet

Hello my lovelies,

Welcome to Pink Tutu Travels, your monthly dose of ballet history, fashion, and all things fabulous! This month, I'm hopping aboard Magic Meg, my darling pink sparkly shire horse with those divine golden hooves and flowing white mane and tail. She’s ready to take us on a magical journey back to March 2022 - and it's going to be a beauty!

As always, my trusty leather rucksack is strapped to my back, ready to gather precious stories and souvenirs from this period in ballet history.

Oh, my darlings, it's hard to believe we’re still just beginning to recover from the world-shifting event that was Covid-19! It certainly affected the ballet world just like everything else. The world was still getting used to performing live again, masks were being used a little in theatres and it was certainly a time of great uncertainty. I feel a little flutter in my heart as I think of those brave ballerinas performing onstage in the face of those uncertainties, keeping the spirit of ballet alive. They are absolute heroes!

I’ve always said, there is truly nothing quite like seeing a live ballet performance - that captivating blend of grace, athleticism and pure artistry
all coming together before your eyes. And I’m happy to report, ballet was back in full swing!

Right now, here in Derbyshire, England, the Royal Ballet is touring with "Romeo and Juliet." I must confess, there’s nothing I adore more than the tragic and passionate tale of love lost and won in Shakespeare’s classic drama! To think, people are experiencing this masterpiece - that makes my ballet heart sing!

I've been catching whispers from Magic Meg - apparently, in New York City, the American Ballet Theatre was performing "Giselle." Now, there’s a ballet that’s been a darling of the stage for ages. The tale of a young peasant girl who dies of heartbreak, the stunning ethereal costumes, the incredible dancing - it’s breathtaking!

And the London stage, oh, the London stage! There were performances happening across the city! I could almost smell the history in the air, wouldn’t you?

Speaking of London, wouldn’t it be positively scrumptious to imagine all the exciting new ballet pieces that are probably being created even now, this very minute, behind closed doors? New pieces just waiting to burst forth and captivate audiences around the world! Imagine, maybe one day I’ll even travel to see them myself
 Oh the excitement!

A Moment For Fashion

What about fashion, you ask? Of course, a visit to March 2022 would not be complete without a little fashion appreciation. This era was a a symphony of bold colors and playful prints! In my opinion, you can't ever go wrong with pink, but don’t be afraid to experiment with vibrant shades of blue, lime green, even orange - after all, ballet is about letting your creativity bloom.

Have you seen some of the designs for new pointe shoes? They're simply delightful - the new styles feature amazing comfort and flexibility, while still retaining those essential elements of support and precision that dancers demand. The shoes are works of art in themselves, I tell you, and they come in a rainbow of colors and textures! You could say it was an absolute revolution for pointe shoe lovers everywhere!

Let's Dance!

My lovelies, what’s an exciting trip without a little ballet class? Well, in March 2022, there were ballet classes happening all around the world - in cosy little studios tucked away in villages, and in grand city spaces bustling with energy. It’s simply magic to picture the graceful movement of bodies in every city on Earth. I'd love to try those new styles, don't you? Imagine dancing across the stage in a modern, comfortable shoe, oh, it makes me giddy with excitement just thinking about it!

From Past to Present - The Importance of Tutu Love

Of course, my greatest dream, is to spread the pink tutu revolution - getting every single person in the world wearing a pink tutu! Oh wouldn’t that be amazing? I can just picture the delight on every face - pure joy in every shade of pink! I have to say, while pink was indeed a favorite of fashionistas back in 2022, there weren’t as many pink tutus in public as I'd have liked.

But you never know - maybe, just maybe, the seeds of that revolution were sown in March 2022, just waiting to bloom. You see, in every era, ballet teaches us about the importance of perseverance, strength, grace and beauty - and the incredible power that comes with working towards a shared goal! And the world always needs a little bit more of those things, don't you think?

But darling, before I bid you adieu this month, remember the words of our very own ballet legend, Margot Fonteyn: "The real journey begins only when you make that first step.” This doesn't have to mean a leap across the stage. No, no, this applies to everything! That's why, today, I encourage you all to take a leap! Find a pink tutu that tickles your fancy and wear it! Or maybe you're thinking of taking that first ballet class. I say - go for it! Every step towards our passion is a step in the right direction, whether it's a small hop or a graceful grande jetĂ©!

Now, I must dash! Magic Meg’s eager to whisk us off to new adventures! Do pop back to Pink Tutu Travels next month and I’ll be here, ready to share even more delightful stories of the ballet world!

Until then, dear readers, may your life be full of beauty, grace, and just a dash of pink tutu magic.

Sending you my love!

Emma
