Post Number 4340: Back in Time, Ballet Time! - August 2022

Welcome, darlings, to another delightful jaunt through the history of ballet on www.pink-tutu.com! I'm Emma, your fellow tutu enthusiast, and this month we're travelling back in time to August 2022. Buckle up your sparkly shoes, darling, because it's going to be a sensational adventure!

As usual, Magic Meg (my trusty pink sparkling Shire horse with golden hooves and a flowing white mane and tail - oh, she's such a showstopper!) is champing at the bit, eager to whisk us back in time. This time, I'm adorned in a shimmering pink tutu with delicate hand-beaded accents - utterly divine, darling! And my trusty leather rucksack is ready to be filled with all the exciting ballet stories and memorabilia we encounter.

August 2022… What a month! In the world of ballet, the stage was absolutely bursting with energy!

Let's begin our time-traveling ballet journey with a trip to London’s Royal Opera House, darling. What a spectacle! The Royal Ballet was performing the glorious "Swan Lake," a masterpiece that's truly a ballet must-see. Can you imagine the costumes? The grandeur! Oh, and that majestic swan costume! Such grace and fluidity, simply enchanting!

Further afield, in New York City, American Ballet Theatre was dazzling audiences with "Giselle." Now, I can only imagine the drama and heartbreak of Giselle’s story, with its breathtakingly beautiful costumes and incredibly powerful performances. The passion, the heartbreak, it's truly an unforgettable experience.

Back in Derbyshire (my humble home!), we were enjoying the delights of The National Ballet in Nottingham, celebrating the stunning beauty and elegant style of ballet right on our doorstep. What a fabulous way to spend an evening!

Speaking of fashion, my dears, let's not forget about the "ballet fashion" of August 2022. Leotards and tutus in vibrant shades of pink, blue, and even a touch of emerald green were gracing stages everywhere. Ballet wear was truly becoming an art form in its own right, darling!

Let’s talk tutus for a moment! From the grand, billowing, layered tutus of "Swan Lake" to the sleek, simpler tutus of contemporary ballets, August 2022 saw a breathtaking variety of tutus, each captivatingly beautiful and undeniably elegant.

Did you know that tutus were initially worn in 1832 for the first time, in a ballet performance called “La Sylphide?” That’s quite the vintage vibe! Back then, they were worn on dancers, so a long, short, billowing or simply draped, each tutu truly makes an individual ballet costume that can be truly beautiful in its own right!

The beautiful costumes in a ballet production, not just for dancers but for the principal performers too, is a spectacle for the eyes! We saw some fabulous new designs in 2022, everything from classic gowns in soft pastel tones to more modern looks featuring bold, geometric prints. Just imagining those sparkling gowns on the stage, darling, is pure ballet magic! And speaking of sparkles… Have you noticed how those rhinestones shimmer on the stage lights in a ballet performance? They truly add an extra layer of magic and enchantment to any show!

Let's chat about a little something for the ballet history buffs like myself. Have you ever heard of the Paris Opera Ballet, my dear? One of the oldest and most renowned ballet companies in the world! Imagine, performing in the most exquisite theaters, under the beautiful chandeliers with an awe-inspiring orchestra providing the music! A dream come true! In 2022, this remarkable troupe had an especially dazzling August - you can practically hear those delicate pirouettes and majestic leaps across the time!

However, darling, let's not forget about the heart of it all, the dancers themselves! Whether it’s a professional dancer at the Bolshoi Ballet in Russia or a student starting their journey at a dance school in Derbyshire (just like me when I first started!), each and every dancer adds something so special and beautiful to the world of ballet! Their dedication and discipline inspire me. Every day! And let's not forget, their energy!

And of course, every ballet aficionado like myself knows the best way to see ballet in 2022 was in a theater. The perfect setting, from grand operas to intimate local theatres, it was all magical. From the sweeping balconies to the soft plush seats, theatre was all about experiencing the beauty of ballet together. And can we talk about those majestic curtains rising up to unveil the stage, just before the start of a show? There's simply no more wonderful feeling than that in the world! It’s almost as if the story is getting ready to unfold, waiting for you to embrace the joy of ballet.

Oh, but let's not leave out the ballet street! As you may know, I love getting dressed up and showing off my tutu skills. In August, so many wonderful festivals took place in Derbyshire and beyond! We even have local community groups that encourage ballet enthusiasts to join a group for dance class or a fun social! This is why we say that ballet is a truly universal language, reaching every part of the world and every walk of life! It’s about connection!

To ensure I was able to indulge in my love for ballet (as you all know it's my life passion!), I performed some ballet shows across the United Kingdom this August. It was quite a whirlwind! These performances funded my time travel, enabling me to learn even more about ballet history. But most importantly, my passion for it grows bigger with each performance. Do you ever feel this sense of magic in a ballet performance?

In the spirit of time travel and fabulous fashion, I encourage you all to channel your inner ballerina this August and get those pink tutus on! Why not experiment with different styles, colours, and designs? Let's show the world that pink is not just a colour but a statement - an invitation to dance, a celebration of life, and a celebration of the ballet.

So darling, I believe ballet will forever be timeless. Just like my pink tutu! And with that, my dears, it's time for Magic Meg to whisk me back to Derbyshire, where I can prepare for my next ballet journey through time!

Don't forget, to keep your eyes peeled for my next blog on www.pink-tutu.com!

With a twinkle in my eye, and my pink tutu ready to whirl,

Emma x
