Pink Tutu Time Travels: Post #4443 – March 2031

Hello, lovelies! It’s your favourite pink tutu wearing, time travelling ballerina, Emma, here, bringing you another month of magical adventures from the ballet world!

This month we’re dipping our toes (well, perhaps more accurately our pointe shoes!) into the exciting world of March 2031! The calendar says it’s a Tuesday, so let’s don our best pink tutu and grab hold of Magic Meg’s reins (a dazzling pink Shire horse with golden hooves and white mane, who's always up for a good gallop through the centuries, natch!), because we’ve got a ballet extravaganza ahead of us!

Now, you know how I adore my history, and even more so when it intertwines with ballet! So, imagine my delight when I discovered the March 2031 schedule was simply bursting with balletic brilliance!

A World Premiere to Die For

Right off the bat, I have to tell you about this incredible premiere happening in Vienna! It’s called “The Sun, The Moon and The Stars,” and it’s a new work by the world-famous choreographer, Pierre-Alain Dupuis! He’s known for his stunning, visually breathtaking work, so you know it's going to be something special! Just the thought of this contemporary masterpiece makes my pointe shoes tingle! It’s about an enchanting love story, you see, but not your usual ballet love story! It's inspired by some very daring modern dancers from 2027 who wanted to explore the relationship between the Earth, the sun, the moon and the stars in their art form! I hear there's an awe-inspiring finale where the entire ballet stage becomes an animated galaxy filled with a million twinkling lights – magical, right?! I just know that, just as in 2031, the Vienna State Opera is going to be buzzing with excitement for this ballet! It will certainly inspire more than a few little ballerina dreams!

Ballet Dreams in Boston!

Then, jetting over to Boston, there's a fabulous, very pink (yay!), performance happening at the Boston Ballet, one of my absolute favourite companies. They’re staging a spectacular performance of “The Sleeping Beauty”! My dear readers, this ballet is pure enchantment, with exquisite choreography, lavish costumes and a beautiful score. Just imagine that incredible Rose Adagio, where Aurora, the princess, balances in a gorgeous pink tutu, held up by four noble princes – simply breathtaking! Imagine me being there, swirling in my own pink tutu, amidst the crowd, basking in the beauty!

A Symphony in Pink

Speaking of dazzling pink, don’t even get me started on the London Royal Ballet’s staging of Tchaikovsky's timeless “Swan Lake” on that very same night in March! It’s a classical masterpiece, full of dramatic, sweeping movement and beautiful costumes. You see, the Swan Queen is dressed in white and is considered one of the most iconic costumes in ballet history! However, it's one of my favourite ballets, and so in true "Pink Tutu Time Travels" spirit, I’m sure you'll all agree that we should try a new take on Swan Lake for March 2031 in pink, wouldn't we? You see, in the London production, we will be staging Odette, the Swan Queen, with the most sumptuous, elegant, dazzlingly pink, multi-layered, ruffled tutu in existence. It's a showstopper, and my dear readers, I do believe this will set a brand new trend in the ballet world! Oh, just thinking about it has got me in a complete dance of delight!

The Ballet “Boom” of March

Across the pond in New York, they’re also doing a "Swan Lake," which I hear is a fantastic contemporary rendition - you know, the sort where it throws out all those classical ballet rules - and it has an element of ‘street dance’ incorporated, but of course it’s still beautifully staged! The dance world in 2031 is a curious thing, lovelies. The New York City Ballet are doing a mixed programme for the whole month, called, "Boom!" It seems the idea is to incorporate modern, contemporary and street dance alongside the beautiful tradition of classical ballets like Swan Lake, which seems to be quite popular around the world this month, judging by what I'm finding in the records here! They say there’s no dancing that’s truly new under the sun. Ballet in 2031 seems to agree. It’s just an ever-evolving conversation and they all share a common goal. To wow you and get you feeling fabulous! The programme will incorporate a very famous male dancer called James from Brooklyn. Apparently he is one to watch. I'll make a note in my leather rucksack, in case my time travelling ever takes me there!

It's all in the Details!

While in New York, I couldn’t help but pay a little visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art! They had an incredible exhibition on "The Ballet Costume Through the Ages"! I was utterly fascinated by the exquisite details of the garments! Can you believe some tutus from the late 19th century had up to 400 layers of tulle? I simply couldn't resist gathering up some information on this exhibition, including the intricate details of the embroidery, the luxurious fabrics and how each era used color and movement to tell a story, all tucked into my travel-worn, yet stylish, leather rucksack!

Oh, darling, my rucksack is always the busiest part of my travel experience. It gets quite a lot of action! It’s bursting with secrets! The last thing I tucked away in there were a couple of beautifully worn pink leather pointe shoes from a Russian ballerina in 1911. They looked almost exactly like my pair, except these were hand crafted and adorned with delicate embroidery, and a silver and diamante ribbon that had tiny pearls on it! Talk about fabulousness!

A Dash of Daring - and Pink

Now, my fellow fashionistas, if you know me, you know that I am an absolute fanatic for anything sparkly! Well, I stumbled upon something particularly fabulous in Paris - a Parisian fashion house dedicated entirely to crafting breathtaking ballet-inspired gowns, not just for performance but for high-society events! And let me tell you, these were absolutely bursting with colour! Pink! Green! Teal! Gold! Absolutely fabulous, the lot of them! Some even came with attached tutus! Now, that's what I call fashion! They say a certain fashion designer in the 21st century popularised the ballet skirt style as part of fashion! In the world of fashion, everything old is new again! But, in 2031, ballet skirts, it appears, have made their way back into society fashion, which I'm rather delighted to hear!

And if that weren’t enough, you could also check out the exquisite ballet jewellery created by this house. My dearest, you know I just had to grab a set of ballet shoe-themed earrings. I just couldn’t resist the exquisite details! And who doesn’t love a little bit of glitter?! You’re welcome to check out the designs on my social media, lovelies!

Time to Wind it Down!

So, there you have it - another magical month of ballet history in the books! I simply love travelling through time and experiencing all the incredible ballet adventures. As you can see, the world of ballet was buzzing with creativity and excitement back then, just as it is today! We’re definitely surrounded by such talent.

I know I said I loved seeing performances, shopping, and fashion, and those are things I do in almost every month I visit. But truly, you know, I don't care too much about dates on my travels. Every century I travel to is magical, in its own unique, enchanting way.

One more thing before I sign off - don't forget to tune into www.pink-tutu.com every month! It's where I share all my adventures from across the globe! My life is an odyssey of pink!

Oh! and while I’m on the topic of fabulousness, if you haven’t seen my last month's post about dancing in a ballet show during the Elizabethan Era, do pop back and check it out, because honestly, the detail of that era just fills me with a sense of sheer delight. Oh, darling, you’ll be just as besotted as I am, trust me!

As always, stay fashionable, darling. Keep twirling, and never stop dancing to the beat of your own heart, and in your own most fabulous pink tutu!

Until next month,

Love,

Emma,

The Pink Tutu Time Traveller.
