Hello fellow ballet aficionados! Emma here, your ever-so-slightly-obsessed pink tutu-wearing blogger from the rolling hills of Derbyshire, ready to whisk you away on another exhilarating time travel adventure! This month marks a monumental occasion – we’re going back to the future, to August 2033! It’s going to be fabulous, trust me!
It’s always exciting seeing how ballet has evolved over the centuries, but 2033? It's still the future to me! So, as always, buckle up and get ready to embark on a journey filled with sparkles, twirls, and of course, copious amounts of pink. This post is number 4472 for my ballet time travel blog on www.pink-tutu.com – we post once a month. If you're looking to catch a live show, my ballet performances are my funding source for all this magical time travel.
(Speaking of shows...what is everyone up to in the world of ballet on 8th August 2033? I'd love to know – leave a comment!)
My magical steed Magic Meg, the pink sparkling shire horse with golden hooves and a white mane and tail, pawed the ground excitedly. Her coat glistened under the Derbyshire sunshine, just as pink as my own favourite tutu. "Ready, Meg?" I asked, checking the straps of my trusty leather rucksack filled with ballet treasures – a little like Mary Poppins’ magic carpetbag but instead of spoons it’s packed with antique ballet shoes, hand-written dance programmes, and vintage sketches.
*Magic Meg let out a gentle whinny, and with a flick of her powerful white tail, we were off! * I squeezed her mane and prepared for the whoosh of our magical, time-bending trip. The world swirled into a dizzying kaleidoscope of colours as we landed gently – or rather, gracefully leapt – into the year 2033!
*Oh, my! * August 2033 was buzzing with the energy of summer, and I immediately found myself on a bustling city street. The pavements were crowded with people on their way to work, their bright clothes and modern hairstyles quite the contrast to the muted colours of 2023.
Of course, the first thing I noticed was the abundance of tutus! In fact, it seems everyone was sporting some version of a tutu, though I did miss my iconic, head-turning shade of pink. It seemed the world was ready for my tutu-wearing campaign – all I needed was the right marketing angle!
This particular August in 2033 had an incredibly exciting ballet program in the world:
“Robot Dreams” by the Tokyo Dance Theatre was being staged at the legendary Tokyo National Theatre! Imagine – futuristic choreography set to cutting-edge electronic music! I'm definitely penciling this into my itinerary – maybe I can persuade Magic Meg to help me sneak backstage for a peek?
*The New York City Ballet was presenting a revolutionary piece titled "Fluid Forms" at the iconic Lincoln Center. * With the leading choreographers from all over the globe showcasing their groundbreaking creations, it seemed this was set to be a show brimming with vibrant and unconventional interpretations.
The world-renowned Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg was celebrating its grand re-opening with a gala featuring stars from across the ballet world. I would not be surprised if a few dazzling new tutus would debut! The grand re-opening must be a visual spectacle that you wouldn't want to miss.
The future seemed incredibly vibrant! I loved that ballet wasn't confined to the grand halls of the past.
Of course, after the time travel, it was time to explore a bit. My ballet fashion heart was singing with every glance in the shops. 2033 seemed to be a year when bold colours, intricate embellishments, and high-tech fabrics were embraced in fashion – and I found the trend reflected wonderfully in the dancewear. Imagine neon pink sequins combined with breathable and light technical fabrics. Just a dream! I stocked up my leather rucksack with futuristic dancewear samples for my collection. This is how we do!
But my greatest treasure of the trip wasn't found in any shop! A chance meeting at a cafe – the café owner was a lovely woman who served tea and lemon cake that was incredibly delicious - revealed a secret dance school.
It was a little tucked away on a quiet side street, but as I peeked inside, the sight of young dancers practicing, smiling and radiant, filled me with a deep, almost spiritual sense of joy. I could practically smell the lavender from the traditional ballet class outfits, the rhythmic tap of pointe shoes echoing around the studio, and the joyous, musical flow of their movement. They weren’t afraid to experiment with style, and that made my heart flutter. My collection for the future will be influenced by all these wonderful things.
(Remember: Ballet isn’t just about looking great in your tutu. It's also about pushing the boundaries, having fun, and exploring your creativity!)
It was time for me to return to the comforting rolling hills of Derbyshire. The familiar sight of the pink-tinged dawn as Magic Meg soared across the centuries left me feeling a little sad to say goodbye to 2033 – I'd loved seeing where ballet would lead the world! But a new adventure was always just a whisker away!
*My heart swelled with the warmth of memories, ready to spread the message of tutus and dreams, and maybe, just maybe, get everyone in the world wearing a pink one. Stay tuned for next month, fellow ballet-loving souls, because I’m already dreaming of what future adventures lie in wait for Pink Tutu Travels! *
Keep shining bright!
