Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, your pink tutu-clad time-travelling guide to the world of ballet. July always feels like the most magical month, don't you think? The sunshine, the flowers, and of course, all those fabulous summer ballet performances!
This month, I’m taking Magic Meg (my oh-so-sparkly pink Shire with the golden hooves) on a whirl through the decades, starting right here, right now – July 2045.
Ballet in the Year 2045: A Time of Exploration
July 2045 in the ballet world is buzzing with excitement. It's a time of exciting innovation with new contemporary choreographers pushing the boundaries, blurring the lines between classical technique and modern dance forms.
One of the most anticipated shows this month is "Ephemeral", a mesmerising work from rising star choreographer, Aiko Sato. It's being premiered in Paris at the Opéra Garnier and features a dazzling new technology – the "Holostage." Imagine dancers interacting with virtual sets, projected holographic dancers, and breathtakingly dynamic light displays. The buzz around this is absolutely electrifying.
On the other side of the world, Melbourne is hosting a fabulous summer ballet festival. They're presenting the works of a generation of young choreographers from around the globe, each adding their own unique voice to the ballet world. From neoclassical ballets exploring complex themes to breathtaking modern dances that celebrate the human form – this is an absolute must-see for any dance enthusiast!
In London, the Royal Ballet is preparing for its summer season, with a thrilling production of “Giselle,” a true classic that continues to enthral audiences over and over again. I just adore this production – the tragic story, the intricate choreography, the beautiful tutus – perfection! I’ll definitely be there, capturing the magic of this legendary ballet.
Pink Tutu Shopping Spree
Of course, no time travel journey would be complete without a spot of ballet shopping! I’m always on the hunt for the perfect pink tutu – that perfect combination of sparkle, flow, and of course, the right shade of pink. This month I'm particularly drawn to the new “Celestial Bloom” tutus by a fabulous young designer based in Florence. They're crafted from hand-painted silk, featuring celestial constellations woven into the fabric. Absolutely exquisite!
For those of you who prefer a more contemporary look, “The Street Ballerina” label has just launched a range of gorgeous streetwear-inspired ballet tutus, perfect for ballet street performances. Imagine classic tutu shapes reimagined with sleek street styles. It's definitely pushing the boundaries of fashion and is oh-so chic.
*Next Stop: The Romantic Era (1830-1870) *
Next month, I’m jumping back in time, with Magic Meg, to the Romantic Era. This was such a captivating time for ballet – with its focus on emotions, fluidity, and storytelling through dance. My rucksack is packed for a journey through this era’s beautiful choreography, sumptuous costumes, and some extraordinary stories of the dancers who pushed the boundaries.
See you next month, darlings! Until then, wear pink, dance like no one’s watching, and keep on sparkling!
Your time-traveling ballerina, Emma xx
