Hello darling readers! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing time-travelling ballerina, and welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travels! It’s a glorious July morning here in Derbyshire, and the air is already buzzing with the excitement of a brand new month. You know what that means, don’t you? A fresh batch of time travel adventures to share! 🎉
This month, we're jetting off (well, trotting, really!) to the vibrant, romantic Paris of 1910! I simply cannot resist a chance to experience the golden age of ballet and witness the grace of legendary ballerinas. The world of ballet is simply humming with excitement this month – whispers of new productions, a dazzling new pair of pointe shoes that’s got the dance world buzzing (pink, of course!), and a whole heap of thrilling news that I simply have to share! But first, let's climb aboard Magic Meg, my trusty pink-sparkling Shire horse, and set off on our journey to the past!
Before we embark, though, I have to give you a sneak peek at what’s on my back. This month's time-travel satchel is overflowing with my latest ballet discoveries: a vintage Parisian programme for Giselle, some delicately embroidered silk ballet slippers, and a whole box of exquisite miniature French bonbons. These beauties will help us experience the very essence of Parisian ballet!
Now, hop on Magic Meg and hold on tight, darling! We're about to gallop through the swirling time vortex! ✨
…
The familiar, exhilarating feeling of time travel tingles through me. And we’re here! The scent of freshly baked bread and lavender hangs in the air, mingled with the faint aroma of horse manure from a nearby carriage. A street artist is capturing the image of a graceful Parisian lady, the same style I adore with her cinched waist and perfectly feathered hat.
Right in front of me, the iconic Eiffel Tower gleams like a giant jeweled pin against the pale blue sky. I just had to see this architectural masterpiece in all its glory! What better place to wear my pink tulle and watch the sunset from the tower's pinnacle? My shimmering pink tutu seems to take on a life of its own, twirling in the gentle breeze. 💖
The streets thrum with a cacophony of horse-drawn carriages and the sounds of a street musician playing a jaunty waltz. What a delight for the senses! Parisian charm at its finest, if I do say so myself! But you know what really puts a skip in my step? Today's the day we’re heading to the Opéra Garnier for an evening performance! I can hardly contain my excitement, darlings! The anticipation has me all fluttery, much like a pink tutu in a gentle breeze. 😉
It’s no surprise, my dear readers, that my journey begins at the hallowed halls of the Opéra Garnier. We’ve just arrived in time for the grand performance of Giselle - a masterpiece of tragic romance and a ballet so iconic, it would become the ultimate standard of romantic ballet! What better way to soak up the ballet history of 1910, my lovelies? The excitement crackles in the air!
We make our way past ladies in beautifully elaborate gowns, their elaborate headwear towering like magnificent creations of silk and feathers. It feels like stepping into a painting! Each man carries an air of debonair confidence, perfectly in keeping with the French chic that defines this era.
Inside the opulence of the Opera Garnier, every inch of the space drips with the most magnificent art, rich history, and captivating design. This architectural wonder makes my inner designer weep with joy, while the gilded interiors take my breath away! It is, indeed, one of the most beautiful places in the world.
I take a moment to appreciate the magnificent chandeliers that bathe the space in golden light. The air vibrates with whispers and hushed excitement. The buzz is palpable, filled with anticipation for the beauty and emotion that's about to unfold. This is it, darlings – the reason why my little pink tutu has traversed through time.
And then, the lights dim!
The stage fills with life as the music swells, leading the story of Giselle, the innocent village girl who falls tragically in love with a handsome, yet deceptive Duke. Oh, my darlings! The dancing is pure magic. Such athletic grace! The dancers execute the most demanding moves with ease and perfection. I just want to hop up on stage and pirouette right alongside them!
The tragic tale unfolds, with a ballerina with exquisite technique taking the stage, perfectly conveying the emotional depth of this enchanting tale. The way she embodies innocence, and then heart-wrenching betrayal and madness is absolutely mesmerising! I sit transfixed as each scene draws me into the captivating world of Giselle and The Wilis, mythical creatures who dance men to death. Oh, what drama!
You can't go to Paris without enjoying a little of its exquisite beauty and style. I’ve got my eye on a gorgeous silk scarf to add to my collection. It’s a stunning piece with the colours of a blossoming rose garden, all woven together with the most delicate gold thread – absolutely divine! It'll look fabulous draped around my shoulders when I’m taking a stroll through Paris with my trusty companion, Magic Meg!
And no trip to the capital of style is complete without a little haute couture shopping! Parisian fashion has always held a place of great fascination in my heart. So many innovative trends emerged from here, particularly in the realm of corsetry, evening gowns and delicate, intricately woven silk scarves, oh my! It is a beautiful feast for the eyes. But alas, my darling readers, you know the Pink Tutu Time Travel Budget demands caution. We can’t go on a massive spending spree, however, alluring the idea may be! I’ll settle for a small and dainty silk rose accessory for my pink tulle! I must stay mindful of keeping the funds for my beloved Pink Tutu Time Travels. 😉
As I float through the city of lights, my eyes catch the shimmer of pink here and there – the delicate pink blossom peeking from behind the stone buildings, a dash of blush pink on a beautifully styled lady's cheek. The city feels a little pinker and, frankly, even more magical today. It is time to hop back on Magic Meg for a farewell tour of the iconic streets of Paris.
From the bustling Champs-Élysées to the picturesque Luxembourg Gardens, and of course, my personal favourite, the quaint little streets of Montmartre, where so much history resides, I savour the ambiance and beauty of a vibrant, and fashion-forward Paris of 1910. My dear readers, a few hours are just not enough! I am itching for a return trip to the City of Lights! Perhaps in the near future, we can venture back to a more romantic time with Magic Meg. Perhaps 1889 Paris and a glimpse of the world’s first World Fair would make the perfect escape for my next time travel blog! 💖
But for now, it's time for us to journey back to Derbyshire, with Magic Meg's glistening golden hooves ready for our exciting homeward bound voyage.
I am so happy you all took a pink-tutu-clad journey with me this month. My journey is filled with delight as I meet such beautiful souls on the road and explore the captivating histories and breathtaking ballets of times past. But it all begins right here with you. Keep on rocking those tutus, ladies, because nothing brings me more joy than seeing those pink and beautiful silhouettes twirling across the globe.
Until next time, my darling readers! Happy dancing, and stay sparkling!
Emma 🩰💖
P.S. This was blog post #4651 on Pink-Tutu.com. Did you know, it costs about £35 to time travel a month on my trusty horse Magic Meg. I finance this time travelling by performing in my pink tutu, at charity events, ballet showcases and in London's West End! Fancy joining me for a show? I’d be absolutely thrilled to welcome you, and let you know about some other lovely shows I will be joining in the near future.
I can’t wait for you to read next month's blog post, which takes us on an exhilarating dance to a time when even more ballet magic was happening! Stay tuned!
