Ballet History: 2049, 10th October – The Parisian Premiere of ‘La Fee Rose’! 🩰💖✨

Welcome back, darlings, to Pink-Tutu.com! It's Emma here, and it's time for our monthly journey back through ballet history. Today, I’m taking you all the way to the year 2049, where a sparkling Parisian premiere awaited! 💖

It’s no surprise that this pink-loving ballerina finds the date 10th October, 2049 particularly delightful! This was the night ‘La Fee Rose’, or ‘The Rose Fairy’ in English, had its debut at the beautiful Palais Garnier Opera House in Paris. This revolutionary ballet was created by the world-renowned, but sadly somewhat forgotten, choreographer, Céleste Duvall. It is a truly captivating story about a young, humble rose girl who blooms into a radiant and graceful fairy – a delightful allegory, I thought, and fitting for our pink theme, of course! 🌸

Just imagine, darling readers, being there for this very special evening. Imagine the bustling energy, the gasps of delight as the first curtain rises. Imagine the hushed anticipation for the star of the show – Madame DeRose. Her solo is legendary – I've even found a recording from 2049 in my travels. It is truly something else. A whirlwind of delicate yet powerful movements with just the right amount of sparkle, set against the exquisite music of Madame Duvall herself. It was so exciting to see, even from afar!

And then there were the costumes, dear readers! Now, while Madame Duvall chose a palette of delicate lavender and baby blue to mirror the moonlit meadows of the tale, the main costume - for the titular rose fairy - was, of course, a gorgeous, breathtaking, deep pink tutu, encrusted with shimmering pink stones. Can you even imagine?! I, for one, practically fainted with envy, which, admittedly, I'm a tad embarrassed to confess now, haha.

Now, you might think 2049 feels a little close for time travel, darling. But don’t fret, because my dear Magic Meg, our pink sparkly Shire, has become even more magical since last month. Imagine, dear readers, a shimmering coat of pink, gleaming hooves, and a flowing white mane and tail… It truly is a sight to behold, I must tell you! Just last month, she whisked me from a beautiful production of "Swan Lake" in Derbyshire to the bustling streets of Paris in less than a blink of an eye! 💫

After the performance of ‘La Fee Rose’, of course, I ventured out to capture the mood of this magical Parisian evening. There was a real excitement amongst the dancers, the audience, and the locals. Imagine the conversations about Céleste Duvall’s brilliant new work, the talk of the costume designs, the buzzing atmosphere of anticipation for what might be next from this wonderfully talented lady. All I had to do was stand by the ornate iron gates of the Palais Garnier, and before you knew it, the air was full of delicious gossip, little tidbits, and snippets of history.

My trusty leather rucksack was almost bursting with notebooks full of wonderful discoveries about the night. I made sketches of the costumes, noted the vibrant, almost surreal lighting, and collected little pieces of memorabilia from the stalls. Who wouldn’t want a beautiful rose-shaped hair comb to remember this night by, or a small miniature replica of the famous pink tutu? I just adore collecting things! It helps me piece together these moments, make sense of history, and, dare I say, contribute a little something to my own growing collection of historical treasures from all corners of the globe.

Speaking of the globe, you lovely readers! Now, for a change of scenery, why don’t you share your stories of beautiful Parisian evenings at the ballet, or, perhaps a stunning pink tutu that you recently spotted on a performance stage? Did any of you happen to see ‘La Fee Rose’ at the Palais Garnier in 2049? Tell me everything – a story, an experience, a memory… every little detail makes this trip even more incredible, and this time-travel journey, after all, is meant to be a shared experience with all you lovelies.

For now, let's leave the excitement of Paris for another time, and remember – if we are going to explore history through the magic of ballet, let's always do it with a little sparkle, and most definitely, a little pink!

This month, I'm back in my hometown, Derbyshire, for an enchanting performance of 'Giselle' at the wonderful Derby Theatre. Imagine the exquisite white tutu, the swirling dances of the wilis, the tale of love and loss. It's sure to be a heart-wrenching but breathtaking experience, and if you are lucky, you might see a little glimpse of me in the audience, soaking it all in, and maybe even snapping a few photos for my ballet collection.

Until next month, dear readers, keep that tutu close, and dance your way to happiness!

Yours in Pink, Emma
