Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! Emma here, back from another dazzling dance through the decades. April always feels like a fresh start, and this month, my darling Magic Meg and I took a trip back to the year...wait for it... 2058! Now, I know, you're thinking, “Emma, we’re already in 2058!” and you’d be right, dear reader. But as you know, time travel isn't all about "what will be", but a whimsical journey through "what was".
And wouldn’t you know, this was a truly sensational time period! 2058 was, apparently, a huge year for ballet innovation and was, I discovered, full of the most fantastical things - I was literally hopping with excitement!
First off, the world of ballet fashion was a wonderland of technicolor. The traditional white tutus were still there, of course, but you could see everything from glittering purple gowns to luminous orange leotards. And my dearest, I absolutely adore a good pink. 2058 didn’t disappoint – pink, oh my, the most stunning shades of bubblegum, blush, and salmon. It was like walking through a magical candy shop, except, instead of sweet treats, it was an explosion of ballet bliss!
But fashion wasn’t the only exciting thing I discovered in 2058. I hopped into my vintage pink beret, grabbed my leather rucksack, and headed to the biggest dance spectacle the year had to offer - the International Ballet Festival of Unity in Tokyo. The entire city was abuzz with anticipation, and when the curtains finally rose, I was absolutely smitten!
The programme showcased the most incredible range of dancers. We had everything from holographic projection ballet, featuring ethereal ballerinas in neon lights against projections of the galaxy, to a beautifully traditional, exquisitely executed production of Swan Lake that was quite breath-taking.
In between the performances, the Festival's grand courtyard buzzed with activity. We had, you guessed it, fashion! Oh, darling, the street-wear! My heart nearly skipped a beat. I saw several street style bloggers – who do know about everything - sporting gorgeous versions of tutus worn with modern sneakers. The chicest! The entire Festival, honestly, was a veritable masterclass on how ballet can evolve with time.
It wasn't all glitter and grand stages though. My next stop was the Grand Prix de la Danse in Paris - a prestigious annual event that’s a big deal in the ballet world. The tension was electric as young ballerinas and danseurs battled it out. And guess what?! My leather rucksack grew by leaps and bounds as I picked up notes on innovative new choreography and met some incredible young dancers who gave me some invaluable insights into their passion for ballet.
The beauty of time travel, though, is discovering those quieter moments, the everyday moments that shape an era's artistry. One day I ventured to London, specifically the famed Royal Ballet School. The students, just like ballet students of any era, were filled with youthful energy, with big dreams, all wrapped up in a healthy dose of sweat and hard work!
One of my absolute favourite things about time travelling is discovering ballet memorabilia, and believe me, 2058 didn’t disappoint. I stumbled across a completely stunning, intricately designed pointe shoe in a little shop tucked away in Rome. Imagine, dear readers, delicate butterfly wings in iridescent blue incorporated into the shoe itself! It was truly the most breathtaking piece of artistry I’ve seen in a long time! And it now rests quite proudly within my precious rucksack. A treasure to be shared!
From grand stages to intimate studios, 2058 was an experience that really got me thinking about the future of ballet. I firmly believe that ballet's beauty, artistry and spirit can transcend time, that’s why I’m back in 2058, reminding everyone that the most fashionable and magical form of movement – you guessed it – is wearing a pink tutu! So darlings, keep on twirling and spreading the love for all things pink and beautiful, just like I’m doing with each step through time.
Now, do you have a favourite era for ballet? Tell me everything! And let’s talk all things tutu in the comments. Remember, wear your tutu with pride, ladies!
Until next month, darling!
Love, Emma xoxo
