Hello my dearest tutu-loving darlings! It’s your favourite pink-tutu-wearing time traveller, Emma, back with another thrilling journey through the dazzling world of ballet history. This month we're hopping on Magic Meg's sparkly back and galloping all the way to the 12th of December, 2059!
Now, I'm not gonna lie, the future can be a bit daunting, with its flashing lights, flying cars and holographic kittens, but there's always a special kind of magic in a future full of swirling tutus. And that's what I found in this time period: a real passion for ballet and a desire to dance the world into a brighter, pinker place!
But first, a quick trip to my local Derbyshire pub for a spot of tea and gossip with my dear, darling Granny May. She, bless her cotton socks, still wears a pink tutu every Thursday and claims to have seen Tchaikovsky himself do a pirouette during a picnic in her garden.
I never do argue with a grandma, so we enjoy a good cuppa, and a bit of "Ballet Time Travel Gossip", before I take my trusty Magic Meg, my darling pink shire horse with those sparkly golden hooves, for a gallop towards the time portal!
Off we trot! And as always, I pack my leather rucksack with my vintage ballet diary to collect my treasured ballet gems. This time it's filled with a soft lavender ribbon, a tiny sequined ballet shoe and a hand-drawn portrait of the famed choreographer Baryshnikov.
And wouldn’t you know it? Our destination: the Ballet of the Future Festival in Dubai! Yes, a whole festival dedicated to the art of the twirl and a veritable celebration of pink tutus. I mean, you can't get much better than that. I can already imagine the swirling gowns, the soaring jumps and the sheer spectacle of it all! I was thrilled. It seemed the future is dancing in time with my love of all things pink and ballet!
The festival, held at the awe-inspiring, and yes, glittering in pink, "City of Stars" arena, was an absolute dream. The performance, "Stars of the Galaxy," featured holographic projection dance set against an entire universe of glitter and neon. It had an electrifying vibe and made me feel like I was literally twirling amongst the constellations. They even had a special section dedicated to vintage tutu-wear and guess who was browsing with glee! It was me, of course, wearing my finest hot pink tutu with the shimmering emerald beads and feathers. My, what a vision!
After absorbing the electric energy of the "City of Stars" arena and browsing for vintage ballet trinkets at the "Cosmic Dance Shop" – they sold tutus made out of the rarest meteorite threads – it was time to move onto my favourite thing: shopping for a new tutu. And what did I find, you ask?
Oh darling, a perfect rose-gold masterpiece with delicate crystal beading! A touch of the future with a splash of traditional elegance, and of course, oh so very pink.
While I'm always a fan of a little pink in my life, the future held some delightful surprises in store for me. And this is why: a movement is brewing within the dance community: the rise of "Electro Ballet".
Electro-Ballet is exactly what it sounds like – a fusion of classical ballet techniques and modern electronically infused music. Imagine those soaring leaps and perfect pirouettes combined with electronic beats and the flashing lights of a nightclub! Now that is a future I can really get behind!
There was a "future ballerina" showcase that evening at the "Quantum Cafe" in Dubai, where up-and-coming dancers performed this exciting new style. Imagine a blend of the fluidity of classical dance, the energy of a rave and a healthy dose of sparkle! And guess who was there, front and centre, twirling along with the energy?
You guessed it – me! This was the kind of innovation, this bold experimentation that had me twirling with delight. I can’t help it; I’m drawn to those who push boundaries and break tradition. That’s the very spirit of ballet!
I’ll say this – there’s definitely an energy in the world of ballet in 2059 that I could easily get used to. It’s a vibrant, ever-evolving artform that never stops moving forward and a ballet form that embraced everything – even glitter. Just what I love.
It’s getting late in the day in Dubai and as my time portal is opening up and I’m hearing the familiar clip-clop of Magic Meg getting restless, I must go. But don’t forget, I’m only a few hops away and you can join me on any journey you like by visiting www.pink-tutu.com. I'd love to hear all about your ballet adventures and your favourite pink tutues.
I leave you today, my dears, with the same passion for ballet and the same desire to see the whole world twirling in a pink tutu. Until next month, my dearest dancers!
See you next time,
Emma
