Hello darlings!
It's Emma here, and you're looking positively fabulous on this Friday, 10th January 1997! Ready to whisk yourselves away to London with me? Today, I'm pulling on my most sparkly pink tutu, and my favourite pair of burgundy ankle boots, because it's a day for exploring the capital! My trusty companion, my little fluffy purse - nicknamed "Pinky" - is brimming with enough lipstick and powder to make even the Queen envious (just a little bit, of course!).
As you know, I love travelling by train. The rhythmic rumble and the way the scenery melts past the window always gets my creative juices flowing. Plus, I have a bit of a confession - the train station cafe is a must for me - that heavenly aroma of brewing tea and warm, freshly baked pastries is just too much to resist!
This time, my journey begins in the heart of Derbyshire, leaving behind the familiar sights and sounds of rolling hills and charming villages. I'm so excited to be heading back to London. It always feels like a haven of dazzling lights, grand architecture, and – let's not forget! - fabulous shopping!
Speaking of fabulous, I have been working so hard on my choreography! You wouldn't believe the stunning new routines I'm putting together for my upcoming performances! I've even had a few requests from a couple of schools to come and teach some classes – they love my approach to the 'en pointe' technique! It makes my heart swell to think I'm inspiring a whole new generation of ballerinas!
This trip is all about exploring London’s creative spirit, catching some truly breathtaking ballet performances, and of course, adding some seriously fabulous new pieces to my wardrobe! I've already scoped out a few little boutiques – some hidden away, tucked into cobbled streets, and some brimming with the latest designs in glittering window displays. Oh, and that boutique on Regent Street… I simply can't wait to see what's waiting for me there!
So, let the whirlwind begin!
Morning Magic:
Stepping off the train at Victoria Station feels like stepping into another world. London's electric energy seems to zap through you as soon as you hit the concourse! The bustling crowds, the fragrant aromas of coffee and freshly baked goods wafting through the air, the sheer joy of being in the centre of this buzzing metropolis… I absolutely love it!
First stop is breakfast, because a ballerina's got to fuel up! There's a darling little café near the station, tucked away on a quiet backstreet. My order - a perfect cup of strong black tea and a fluffy croissant with the tastiest jam! It sets me up perfectly for a day of walking and exploring!
Ballet Bliss:
Now, every London trip has to include a little dose of ballet magic, and today, it's a matinée at the Royal Opera House. I am utterly captivated by the story of 'Swan Lake'. This iconic tale of love, betrayal, and transformation, portrayed with such exquisite grace and precision, is simply captivating! The costumes! The music! The choreography! I’m simply speechless, utterly enraptured by every movement, every expression!
You wouldn’t believe what a chance meeting happened today - I spotted one of my favourite dancers from the National Ballet! He was looking fabulous in a tailored, plum-coloured suit and a bright scarf! I had to pluck up my courage and introduce myself…and guess what? We even had a little chat! We spoke about the world of ballet, his favourite role, and my hopes of becoming a touring ballerina myself someday. He even complimented my tutu – you know how much that means to me!
Fashion Fantasies:
The afternoon sun is painting London in warm shades of golden light, and there’s not a single cloud in the sky – absolutely perfect for strolling along Oxford Street. I simply can’t resist the charm of this street - the historic department stores with their extravagant window displays, the bustling crowd, the lively energy... I'm already planning my first purchase – a magnificent powder blue coat with a touch of lace at the collar. Oh, the thrill of the chase! I absolutely adore that feeling of discovering a truly unique garment!
But first, afternoon tea! It's the perfect way to unwind after a morning of artistic excitement and a bit of fashion hunting. I have my eyes set on the grand, Victorian-era elegance of The Ritz London. Imagine this: delicate finger sandwiches, freshly brewed tea, and the most tempting selection of pastries and cakes - all in a room with the most exquisite, decadent ambiance. Oh, what a wonderful treat for a ballerina!
A Stroll Through the Heart of History:
After tea, I decide to head for the heart of London - Buckingham Palace and the surrounding area. The air vibrates with a rich history and timeless tradition. It's almost magical - a glimpse into a past world that's intertwined with the modern hustle and bustle of London.
I simply love walking by the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace. It’s like a scene straight out of a historical film, with those regal soldiers in their colourful uniforms and bearskins!
Afterwards, a short stroll to Hyde Park is a must – especially when the sun's shining! It’s such a beautiful place to take a deep breath of fresh air and soak in the beauty of London. The sight of all those park benches, the families playing, and the energetic atmosphere – it’s pure magic!
Evening Enchantment:
To top off a perfect day, I've booked a table at one of the best West End theatre restaurants. I’m indulging in some of London’s finest Italian cuisine with a theatrical backdrop! The whole experience is dazzling! From the beautifully crafted Italian dishes with the richest sauces and finest cheeses to the live music and energetic atmosphere - the restaurant is absolutely alive with a lively ambiance and I simply love it!
This evening, a must-see show! I am thrilled to be heading to the Apollo Theatre for 'Grease'! Oh, the iconic costumes, the amazing music, the catchy tunes! It is simply electrifying - from the first notes to the final bows!
With the sounds of the finale still echoing in my ears, it's time for my homeward train. Sitting in my comfy seat with a cup of hot chocolate in my hands, I gaze out at the darkening cityscape and think back over all the excitement and beauty of this fabulous London adventure. It’s been an incredible day of discovering, experiencing, and simply being charmed by this extraordinary city!
As I prepare for another week filled with practice, rehearsals and planning for future performances, I think back on all the wonderful people I’ve met, the captivating shows I’ve seen and the incredible memories made during this journey to London!
And I always wonder, "Where will my pink tutu take me next?”
Until next week, stay fabulous and let your dreams take you far and wide!
Lots of love,
Emma
