Pink Tutu Blog: London Adventures! (Post #33)

Friday, 18th April, 1997

Oh, my darlings! What a glorious day I've had in the Big Smoke! Today, I traded in the quaint charm of Derbyshire for the bustling energy of London, and you know what? I couldn't be more delighted!

As a true ballerina at heart, train travel holds a special kind of magic for me. Picture this: a pink tutu swishing gracefully as I glide through the carriage, my ballet bag tucked snugly under my arm, and the rhythmic clickety-clack of the wheels setting the tempo for my own little performance. This time, I even had a delightful gentleman opposite me who offered to hold my handbag as I practised a few barre exercises! Such a sweet fellow.

Landing in London Paddington Station, I was immediately enveloped in a thrilling wave of excitement. It was a crisp, clear spring day, the perfect weather to embark on my London adventure. Of course, I was in my signature pink tutu, its tulle swirling about me as I embarked upon the journey.

Fashion Fix at Liberty

First stop: Liberty, the most magnificent department store imaginable! Just stepping through those grand, ornate doors transported me to a world of elegance and exquisite style. And I just had to find the perfect outfit for my evening plans! I envisioned something a little daring, a splash of pink, perhaps, something that would have the paparazzi clamouring for a glimpse.

After browsing through a dazzling array of floral print dresses, intricate silk scarves, and dazzlingly elegant hats (you know how much I love a good hat!), my gaze fell upon a divine coral pink velvet coat. The lining was the softest peach silk, and the buttons were delicately carved, a whimsical touch I simply couldn't resist. I imagined twirling in this coat amidst the iconic red double-decker buses, and instantly knew it was destined for me.

Lunch With a View at The Shard

My stomach was starting to rumble, so I headed to The Shard. Yes, you heard right, The Shard! I love how modern and sophisticated it looks. I ordered a light but delicious salad and a glass of the most exquisite rose. And oh my goodness, the view! Panoramic, stunning, breathtaking. Just a magnificent display of London’s grandeur. I almost lost track of time staring at the sprawling streets below. It was truly the perfect place for a London girl to recharge.

Seeing Stars at The Dominion Theatre

Evening time rolled around, and I couldn't wait to see a truly spectacular show! I was so excited for the "Miss Saigon" production at the Dominion Theatre. Let me tell you, this was a show I won't be forgetting any time soon! I even got a chance to mingle with some fabulous theatre folk after the curtain call. So much glamour and excitement. The highlight? A breathtaking dance number by the talented dancers who moved like pure magic. I felt a twinge of stage envy watching them, but you know me, it's all about appreciating artistry in any form!

A Bit of Shopping Magic at Harrods

No London escapade is complete without a visit to Harrods! I spent the last part of the evening immersing myself in the sheer luxury of this iconic emporium. Every aisle seemed to be an explosion of colours, scents, and textures. I picked up some delicate lavender soaps and a box of chocolates shaped like dancing swans. So sophisticated and quintessentially London, isn't it?

A Farewell to the Big Smoke

I couldn't have asked for a better Friday in London. It's the perfect blend of vibrant city life, luxurious indulgence, and the enduring magic of theatre. And my pink tutu? It effortlessly sailed through the day, capturing every curious glance and leaving a touch of ballet-inspired flair wherever I went.
