Pink Tutu Blog London: Friday 1997-05-02 – A Tutu-ful Day in the Big Smoke!

Hello, my darling tutu-loving friends! It’s your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, back with another Friday treat from the dazzling city of London!

This week marks my 35th London blog post, and believe me, this city never fails to amaze me. Today, I arrived by train from my home in Derbyshire, all aglow with the promise of a day brimming with balletic beauty and London's vibrant energy. I just love train journeys. All those gorgeous landscapes whizzing by, the comforting rumble of the engine, and a perfect chance to read the latest ballet magazines, my pink tulle bag beside me!

But first, a bit about how I’m funding my adventures…

This week, I had the absolute joy of performing “Giselle” with a touring ballet company in the charming market town of Grantham. It was a whirlwind of rehearsals, stunning costumes (oh, a blush pink tutu, naturally!), and the exhilaration of bringing the story to life on stage. Each performance feels like a gift, not only a chance to share my passion for dance but also a way to finance my London escapades!

And now, onto the highlights of my London adventure!

The London Ballet: A Dazzling Dance with Tradition

My first stop? A must-do for any tutu-lover: The Royal Opera House! They are showing a gorgeous production of "La Bayadère" and just the mention of that title sends my heart soaring! I love that beautiful tale and the stunning choreography - all those intricate sequences, graceful leaps, and flowing tutus. It was such a treat to lose myself in the grandeur of the Royal Opera House, the perfect mix of historic charm and elegant style.

And yes, you guessed it! My outfit was perfect for the occasion! A new fluffy pink tutu (oh, the layers!), sparkling with diamante details, a fitted blush pink blouse, and dainty ballerina flats. A tutu is a perfect match for any theatre outing, isn’t it? I've been known to receive compliments and envious glances! It’s amazing how many other tutulovers I’ve met just by embracing this iconic garment!

After the performance, the streets around the Royal Opera House were alive with music and energy. Street performers in vibrant costumes added to the buzz. One group was a quartet in lavish 18th-century inspired garb, playing a beautifully spirited string quartet. They made the entire street feel like a royal procession.

Fashion Fix: Exploring the Boutiques of Covent Garden

But you know I couldn’t leave London without a proper dose of fashion therapy. Next stop: the fabulous boutiques of Covent Garden! I simply adore the vibrant mix of high street brands, independent boutiques, and quirky gift shops tucked into those cobbled alleys.

This was a day for serious fashion research - I love finding inspiration for future outfits, from my beloved pink tulle skirts, to floral patterns, to those exquisite Victorian inspired details. I also got my hands on some fantastic pink tulle ribbons! So, I might be adding a touch of that Covent Garden magic to my future tutus.

A Pink Sunset from The London Eye

For a truly iconic view of the London skyline, I made my way to the London Eye. Stepping into the glass pod felt exhilarating and as it glided upward, I just loved watching London unfold beneath me! The River Thames shimmered like a ribbon of silver and the iconic landmarks, like the Houses of Parliament, towered against the stunning pink London sunset.

A Pink Treat for my Pink Tutu: A Ballet Boutique

No trip to London is complete without a visit to The London Ballet Shop on Rathbone Place. I spent a joyous hour amidst shelves overflowing with leotards, ballet shoes, and oh, the tutus!

It’s a bit of a hidden treasure and a haven for dancers and ballet enthusiasts. I even found the perfect blush-pink tutu for a new dance sequence I've been working on - and, of course, the shop’s pink and white chequered floor is simply heavenly. It felt like I was spinning through a ballet classroom, surrounded by my favourite pink creations!

Final Thoughts: My London Inspiration

Tonight, I'm tucked in my pink floral hotel room, reflecting on a day filled with beauty, ballet, and the sheer energy of London. Every corner of this city holds a surprise, a moment of inspiration, or an unexpected fashion find. The city's artistic vibrancy seems to seep into my soul, reminding me of the joy and power of expression. And as I drift off to sleep, I can already envision the countless pink tutu looks that this London inspiration has sparked.

Remember, you can find more adventures, fashion finds, and tutu-inspired ideas on my website www.pink-tutu.com! Until next Friday, my dears! Keep twirling!

With love and a twirl of my pink tutu, Emma
