Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu aficionado, back from a whirlwind weekend in the big smoke! London, oh London! I adore you, and all your charm, colour, and, yes, the theatre! I couldn't wait to share my London exploits with you, and who knows, perhaps you'll be inspired to grab your own pink tutu and set off on an adventure of your own.
I arrived in London with a heart full of excitement and a suitcase stuffed with all my favourite pink things. That's right, my love for pink knows no bounds. My travel essentials include a pink satin overnight bag, my lucky pink silk scarf, and of course, a stunning pink tutu for all those iconic London photo-ops! This week's ensemble included a pale pink, swishy tulle tutu, topped with a simple white camisole, all finished off with my favourite chunky silver chain. Perfect for strolling down Regent Street, don't you think?
My journey down from Derbyshire on the train was a delight in itself. The English countryside is a magical place, the trees just starting to burst forth in their spring glory. I felt such a sense of peace as I travelled past the rolling hills, dotted with quaint villages, with the anticipation of the day building in my heart.
Arriving at Euston Station was pure joy! I couldn't resist a selfie on the platform, my pink tutu swirling around me as I grinned for the camera. London's energy is so vibrant, so alive. The streets bustled with people, and I just couldn't help but dance a little as I navigated the crowd! The air crackled with the excitement of a Friday afternoon, a feeling you just can't capture in a photograph.
Speaking of capturing moments, my first stop was the legendary Royal Albert Hall, my favourite concert hall in the entire world! I know what you're thinking, a ballerina going to a concert? Well, let me tell you, the acoustics are divine, and it's not just about the music! I always have to get a picture outside with its stunning, neo-classical architecture.
But the day was only just beginning, so off I went to explore the bustling streets. The National Gallery was my next stop - I've always loved wandering through its rooms, studying the master works. It's a perfect spot to gather inspiration, and this time it wasn't just the artwork that inspired me, but the fellow visitors. The diversity of London, truly captivating! I could have spent hours soaking in the ambiance, but the call of the city pulled me onward.
Lunchtime came, and of course, no London visit is complete without a delicious cream tea! My pink tutu and I sat at a cute little tea shop just off Oxford Street, with perfectly pink floral teacups. Cream tea is one of those pure British delights I just can't resist, especially with the perfect pot of Earl Grey tea. Feeling energized and ready for the afternoon, I set off towards my next destination.
I admit, my afternoon was filled with indulgence. First up, I simply couldn't resist browsing through Liberty's department store, a stunning display of colour and design, and oh, that floral fabric department! It is so luxurious and a genuine British institution.
And finally, the theatre! Oh, the sheer joy of seeing a performance! This evening I was captivated by "The Lion King", a true theatrical extravaganza. The colours, the costumes, the sheer spectacle! It's no wonder it's one of London's longest-running musicals. It really was a delightful treat for the senses.
But London doesn't just offer big-budget extravaganzas, it’s about the unexpected gems too! And the real treat for me? A trip to see a dance performance by a new ballet company, called the “Rising Stars”, located in the depths of London’s Theatreland. They had an original choreography for Stravinsky's 'The Rite of Spring', I’ve never seen such innovative use of the original music! I was completely enthralled!
After the show, it felt like the entire cast was dancing their way into the night, full of joy. The energy in the streets after a theatrical experience is just electrifying. You’d never imagine how excited a simple cab ride home after an evening of theatre could feel, but there is an intangible magic.
Finally, it was back to my hotel room, a haven of floral bedding and plush pillows, to reflect on the day. I love a good long bath with my favourite lavender oil, allowing myself to just rest and digest the incredible sights and sounds of the day. London always has so much to offer, and it never fails to inspire. As I lie in my bath, looking up at the stars through the hotel window, I realize this trip has reminded me just how vital a good dose of theatre and a touch of pink tutu magic can be to the soul!
My London adventures will continue next weekend. I'll be trying to find the best spots for vintage clothing, discovering those hidden London cafes and hopefully finding a little more ballet inspiration in the city's rich arts scene. I'll keep you posted, darlings, as I have so much more to share!
So, until next week, don't forget to be bold and embrace the joy of pink! Because every day can be an adventure with a little bit of pink tutu magic.
Yours in dance,
Emma
