Hello, darlings! It's Friday, the day we all eagerly anticipate, the day the pink tutu gets its wings and takes flight across the magical city of London! As the train carried me down from Derbyshire, my heart fluttered with the excitement of another London adventure.
This week, I’ve traded my pointe shoes for a pair of trusty flats, but I've kept my trusty pink tutu, because why ever wouldn't you wear a pink tutu? Honestly, why?!
London Calling:
It was a glorious October morning as I arrived in London, the crisp air infused with the scent of autumn leaves and promise. There's just something about this city, a spark in the air, a sense of history, and boundless creativity. I'd be spending the day embracing all that London has to offer, exploring the hidden corners and vibrant streets, seeking out those special gems that make this city a global beacon.
Pink Tutu Train Travel:
The train journey from Derbyshire was utterly blissful. The picturesque English countryside whizzing past my window, the calming hum of the engine, and of course, my vibrant pink tutu adding a splash of colour to the carriage. Fellow passengers, bless their cotton socks, were definitely intrigued!
Honestly, there’s nothing better than watching the world go by from a train window. It allows time to let your mind wander, daydream about all the wonderful experiences awaiting you in London, and even sketch some tutu-inspired outfits. ?
Exploring the West End:
Once I'd settled into my cosy little Bloomsbury hotel, I set off towards the heart of theatreland: the West End. I love how the cobbled streets, majestic buildings, and twinkling lights transport you back in time. It’s pure magic, isn’t it?
Of course, a West End visit isn't complete without a little bit of retail therapy. Covent Garden is my absolute go-to, with its quaint little shops, bustling markets, and delicious street food. You can guarantee that I'm bound to find a new pink tutu accessory to add to my collection. I have a weakness for anything sparkly. Don’t we all?
Speaking of sparkly things… what was I looking for… oh, yes! My evening entertainment!
Theatrical Delights:
Tonight was a truly special treat. I was seeing “Wicked” – the musical about the witches from “The Wizard of Oz” – in the magnificent Apollo Victoria Theatre. I’d been waiting for months to catch this show and I’d bought tickets as soon as I saw they were on sale. The set design was incredible, the music was stunning, and the acting was breathtaking. I was absolutely captivated! The power of stories and the art of storytelling, in all its beautiful forms, has the ability to whisk you away to another world entirely, to stir up emotions and evoke memories that you wouldn’t expect. And tonight, that world was green, red and wickedly delightful.
After the show, I indulged in a delicious late-night dinner at a nearby Italian restaurant. The candlelit ambiance and delectable food, it was pure bliss after an enchanting evening. I couldn’t wait to tell everyone about it.
Finding Inspiration:
As a ballerina, I love seeking inspiration wherever I go. London is brimming with art, culture, and beauty – it’s like a never-ending feast for the senses! I’ve been watching street performers on my wanderings - some doing contemporary, some jazz, some more traditional, and it has got me thinking about how we can translate that energy and expression onto the stage and into my own routines. I’ve also popped into some galleries, like the Tate Modern and the National Gallery. They both inspire creativity, as does the breathtaking Royal Opera House, even without a performance going on. It’s always interesting to get a peek backstage!
The more I travel and experience life outside of Derbyshire, the more inspired I become to make a positive change to my own community – maybe teach classes for young ballerinas, share what I’ve learned and open up a little corner of the wonderful world of dance and movement. I feel it calling!
Pink Tutu Power:
As the evening descended and I prepared to retreat to my little hotel room, I found myself pondering. What is the true magic of a pink tutu, you ask? It's about expressing your inner self, embracing your own style, and finding your voice through dance, theatre, or simply putting on your best, pink, twirly creation. The pink tutu is a symbol of happiness, it embodies our vibrant personalities, and inspires others to join in the fun!
So, as I drifted off to sleep, a beautiful smile painted across my face, I knew my London adventures weren't over. Next Friday, I'll be back with more tales of pink tutus, breathtaking shows, and incredible cityscapes. Don’t forget to check out www.pink-tutu.com every week for the latest adventures!
Until then, wear your pink tutus with pride, and dance your heart out! ??
Yours always,
Emma
P.S. Did I tell you I got some new pointe shoes? They’re so sparkly!
P.P.S. And I think I might be addicted to the ballet performances. They’re absolutely magnificent. It's a hard job, I'll give them that. But then they make it look so effortless…
