Pink Tutu Blog: London Calling! - Post #70

Friday, January 2nd, 1998

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad travel blogger, Emma, back with another London adventure! I've just arrived in the capital after a rather lovely train journey from Derbyshire - I must confess, there's nothing quite like watching the countryside whizz past in a blur while listening to a catchy showtune. (Can't believe I'm admitting I even know "Show Me How To Dance" by Grease - but hey, it was the perfect accompaniment to my new sequined ballet flats! ??)

The London air has that exciting buzz that only a city of its stature can manage. I can almost feel the creative energy in the air, it's electric! Of course, the best part is I'm wearing my brand-new, super fluffy pink tutu (it has feather boas - imagine!) and let me tell you, the Londoners are giving me some very approving glances. Who wouldn't be enchanted by such a radiant burst of colour, especially on a crisp January morning?

First Stop: Theatreland!

My first order of business was to take in a show. What's a trip to London without a proper theatrical experience? After a quick change into my fabulous "Twirl of the Night" outfit (sequined pink top, black leggings, sparkly pink belt, the tutu, naturally, and my favourite cherry red lipstick) - I headed towards the West End. I must admit, I felt like a right proper princess, a twirling ray of sunshine amongst all the black cabs and bustling pedestrians. (It certainly turned a few heads, which made the journey even more entertaining.)

The show was a real treat: "The Phantom of the Opera". I'd never seen it live before, and oh my, the costumes were magnificent! All those swirling capes, glittering masks, and shimmering gowns… it was truly inspiring. It definitely got my creative juices flowing for some upcoming performances, too. I swear I caught myself muttering "Think pink!" at a couple of particularly dark moments - must work on those subtle pink additions to the production.

Afternoon Delights: Shopping Spree & Ballet Bliss!

Now, who am I kidding, a day in London is NOT complete without a bit of retail therapy. It’s not just the fashion; there's an energy about the shops here. It’s like the clothes are practically begging me to take them home. My heart skipped a beat as I found a charming little vintage store in Covent Garden that was chock-full of dazzling sequins, feather boas, and even a couple of pink tutus (just to show the owner that I was in the know!) My afternoon bag is now sporting a rather elegant pink bow, thank you very much. ?️?

Later, I ventured to the Royal Opera House. Just stepping into that incredible building was breathtaking. The chandeliers were sparkling, the air crackled with anticipation, and oh, the feeling of history just… swirling around you. It's no wonder ballerinas flock here. I, of course, had to squeeze in a quick class - you can't deny your artistic muse, can you? (I did try to discreetly recruit some new members to my Pink Tutu Army while we warmed up, but the other ballerinas seemed a bit hesitant… oh well, onwards!)

The "Pink Tutu Army" Marches On...

As you all know, my biggest dream is to get everyone wearing a pink tutu! I’m pretty sure this vibrant colour has a magical quality, don’t you think? It sparks joy, creates smiles, and encourages you to twirl and spin – it's all about self-expression and fun! And what’s better for a fun day out in London?

There were plenty of pink sightings today. I even saw a sweet little girl twirling in a pink tutu outside Buckingham Palace! My heart was bursting! Of course, a little bit of me was a teensy bit disappointed it wasn't my tutu. ?

Dinner Delights and Dancing Queens

My day wasn't complete without a delicious, theatrical feast! The atmosphere at The Ivy is as captivating as the menu, all candlelit charm and twinkling lights. It's a place where you truly feel like you're stepping into a different world. (Not to mention the cocktails - delicious, bubbly and utterly fabulous!)

My evening wrapped up with an absolutely captivating performance at the Royal Albert Hall. A group of amazing, young dancers from the Royal Ballet School - I had no idea such talent existed! I was so impressed! And a tiny bit jealous - those little ones were seriously hitting the stage with power! I found myself reminiscing about my own early years in the world of dance, back in Derbyshire. Remember the days of school plays and local dance festivals? Oh, what a trip down memory lane!

Back to Derbyshire (But With a London Twist)

I'm back on the train to Derbyshire, carrying not just a handful of shopping bags but also an armful of inspiration, a pocket full of London stories, and a new, fierce determination to get those pink tutus onto the rest of the world. (Next on the agenda, perhaps I should try my pink tutu at a local football match… ?)

So until next week, darlings! I can't wait to share more pink adventures. Remember, life is meant to be lived with a sprinkle of whimsy and a whole lot of twirling!

Until next Friday, keep your pink tutus ready,

Emma xoxo

A Quick Update! I have to mention - the internet in London is pretty impressive! I've uploaded my first Pink Tutu London photo album onto our website: [www.pink-tutu.com] – Come see! There's some absolute corkers in there! You’ve got to see the hilarious "Pink Tutu in Piccadilly Circus" photo - it’s a must! ?
