Hello darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, back with another fabulous blog post from the heart of London! This Friday was a whirl of excitement, colour, and tutus, of course! I decided to hop on the train from my little corner of Derbyshire for a day of exploring the capital. Nothing beats the romantic clatter of the tracks and the fleeting view of fields rushing past my window!
London, you truly are the most magical city in the world! As soon as I stepped onto the platform at King's Cross, a little shiver of anticipation ran down my spine. And trust me, London knows how to put on a show! I planned my Friday out with my usual mix of ballet, shopping, and a touch of theatre magic. Let's dive into the pink-tastic highlights!
A Trip to The Royal Opera House: An Absolute Must
My Friday adventure began with a grand entrance to The Royal Opera House! A vision in my favourite baby pink tutu with matching sequined gloves, I felt every bit the star of the show, even before the performance began! The air inside crackled with anticipation, the hushed murmurs and rustling gowns whispering tales of excitement.
Tonight's programme was Giselle – a masterpiece of tragedy and grace that never fails to move me to tears. It's a ballet that truly captures the raw emotion of love and loss, and the dancers performed with breathtaking passion and technical brilliance. I always leave a performance feeling energised, inspired, and a little bit more graceful than I was before! And the best part? I’ve actually managed to build a bit of a career performing ballet, so each trip allows me to see incredible shows and pay my own way! A dream come true!
Pink-tastic Shopping in Covent Garden
After a spectacular show, the only thing missing was a dose of retail therapy! I made my way through the cobbled streets to Covent Garden – a place bursting with charm and quirky finds. Let me tell you, it was like stepping into a kaleidoscope!
You won't find me anywhere near those boring beige shops! Covent Garden is where I hunt for unique, statement pieces, and trust me, I found a treasure trove of pink goodness! There was this stunningly sequined top at a little vintage boutique that I simply HAD to have. The shopkeeper was so sweet and gave me some styling advice – you can see the whole look on my Instagram @PinkTutuEmma! Covent Garden never fails to bring out the fashionista in me!
Theatre Delights in the West End
And because a London day is never complete without a little dose of West End magic, I popped over to the Palace Theatre to see Mamma Mia! – a musical guaranteed to have you singing and dancing in your seat! It was pure escapism, a perfect end to my perfect day. The energy in the theatre was infectious, the whole audience clapping along to those iconic ABBA hits. You know, there’s a bit of me that wishes ABBA were around today, so we could put together a pink tutu musical - just imagine the spectacle!
London By Night: An Evening Stroll and Reflections
The twinkling lights of the city bathed everything in a soft glow. Walking past Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament with the Thames shimmering beside me, it truly was a fairy tale moment! I reflected on the beauty and energy of London – a place that embodies creativity, inspiration, and sheer joy. It’s a city that truly knows how to make you feel like you’re living a dream.
And now, as I write this post, I can't help but wonder... why isn't everyone wearing pink tutus? This magical colour brings such joy to every single outfit and to every day! It radiates a confidence that's simply contagious! I believe the world needs more pink!
And now, for the essential Pink Tutu Guide to London!
Let's break down the essentials to plan your own London adventure!
Transport:
- The Underground (also known as the "Tube") is your go-to for quick and easy travel around the city. It's pretty affordable if you get an Oyster card, just don't forget to tap in and out!
- Busses are another option, and sometimes a bit more romantic – offering incredible views! Be sure to take the open top buses if you can!
For longer distances, you can easily travel around England by Train! This is my favourite mode of transport. I love feeling the rumble of the tracks beneath my feet and the sense of adventure that comes with every new journey! Things to see and do:
Visit Buckingham Palace: Be sure to witness the changing of the guards! It's such a British tradition! A little history tip: did you know you can tour the State Rooms? I haven't yet! This year, it's a definite must.
- Stroll through Hyde Park: Get lost in the lush green of Hyde Park and be sure to have a picnic! It’s my perfect spot for an afternoon break, surrounded by beauty and calm.
- Get lost in the museums: From the British Museum to the V&A, London offers something for everyone! My tip? Take advantage of their free entry!
- See a West End show: A show is essential for your trip! So much fabulous, glittering glamour to be enjoyed. You can easily get tickets at half price from TKTS in Leicester Square.
- Walk along the South Bank: From the London Eye to Shakespeare’s Globe, this is an absolute must! It's where you can soak up London’s stunning river views!
Where to Stay:
- If you want something elegant, book a stay in the heart of Knightsbridge.
Or if you prefer charming B&Bs, explore Bloomsbury!
What to wear:
It goes without saying: pink! Embrace the joy of tutus and other fabulous garments, or keep it simple but elegant with a pink top and skirt or a cute pink dress. London is full of character! It's a city where you can truly embrace your inner diva! It's also very important to pack for any type of weather, London's infamous drizzle can pop in at any moment! Don't forget an umbrella!
Eat like a Queen (or ballerina):
- London is a haven for delicious food! Be sure to check out the traditional British fare like fish and chips or a full English breakfast! And trust me, no trip is complete without indulging in afternoon tea, with scones and clotted cream – my personal favourite!
Last But Not Least: Don't Forget To Be Kind To Yourself:
As any good ballerina knows, taking care of your body and soul is just as important as a stunning dance!
So my loves, be sure to give yourself permission to treat yourself. Have a few cheeky cocktails, indulge in a luxurious facial, or simply enjoy a quiet moment in the park! London is the perfect place to pamper yourself!
Until next week!
