Hello, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad traveller, Emma, here, ready to whisk you away on another London adventure! I'm just back from a whirlwind day exploring the magical capital, and let me tell you, this city never fails to enchant! Today was extra special because it was… wait for it… Christmas Eve!? Yes, London on Christmas Eve was nothing short of breathtaking. The city was aglow with festive cheer, every shop window decked out in sparkly Christmas decorations and twinkling lights. And the streets were filled with happy people, wrapped up warm and dashing around doing last-minute shopping. Honestly, it felt like I had stepped right into a Christmas movie!
This trip to London, like all my adventures, was a result of my most recent ballet performance – I managed to land a role in the Nutcracker this year! It's such a wonderful feeling to be able to travel and see the world thanks to my passion for ballet, and it fuels my love of everything sparkly and pink, especially when it comes to clothes!
But before we get into the heart of London, I must tell you all about my journey! As a lover of all things vintage, you might guess that I prefer the scenic route. I took the train from my home in Derbyshire, which was absolutely blissful. I had the most delightful window seat, tucked away in my cosy corner with a cup of hot cocoa and a good book (my latest obsession, Jane Eyre – it’s got a dramatic twist of fate and romantic yearning, the perfect story to curl up with). As I whizzed through the English countryside, the snow-dusted hills and villages flashed by, making me feel truly content. The train journey always adds a bit of magic to the trip – it's like an exclusive theatre performance just for me, with the countryside as the stage!
First stop – Shopping!
You can’t explore London without dipping into the dazzling world of its shops, can you? And with Christmas Eve fast approaching, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement. From the vintage treasures at Portobello Road Market to the chic boutiques of Knightsbridge, there was something for every style, even for a tutu-wearing ballet fanatic like me! I stumbled upon a hidden gem – a vintage shop in Covent Garden tucked away down a cobbled alley, where I found the most gorgeous, delicate blush pink vintage silk scarf, and a pair of pearl earrings. Talk about perfect additions to my Christmas outfit!
Dinner Time
After a full day of exploring, nothing beats a delicious Christmas Eve dinner, right? My favourite place to go for festive cheer is The Ivy! I’ve become quite fond of this London institution – its plush atmosphere and delectable menu are simply irresistible. The Christmas decorations, with their sparkly tinsel and baubles, added the perfect touch of magic to the occasion. The smell of roast goose in the air was intoxicating!
Ballet Under the London Lights
The main event was seeing the The Nutcracker at The Royal Opera House. You know how much I adore a good ballet performance, but seeing The Nutcracker at the Royal Opera House was like a dream! It was my very first visit to this iconic theatre, and I was absolutely mesmerized by the grandeur of the place. From the beautifully intricate gold decor and glittering chandeliers to the rich velvet seats and ornate boxes, the entire building was a stunning testament to the enduring power of ballet. And the performance itself? Oh, it was simply divine! The dancers moved with such grace and precision, transporting me to another world. Each step and turn told a story, each leap a breathtaking moment of joy. The story of The Nutcracker unfolded before me, each character perfectly portrayed. The choreography, the costumes, the music – every single detail was crafted to perfection. It’s truly a unique experience that will stay with me forever!
Christmas Eve Wanderings
After the magical ballet performance, the streets of London truly shone under a blanket of glittering lights, the scent of roasting chestnuts and cinnamon swirling through the air. It’s not just the shops that are decorated for Christmas, there were charming Victorian pubs lit up with twinkling fairy lights and steaming mugs of hot chocolate and hot spiced cider on offer. It felt like something out of a fairy tale, all sparkly and joyous! The festive mood in London is infectious, you simply can’t help but get swept up in it.
Time to Rest & Recharge!
After all that exploring, my head was full of Christmas Eve magic and the delightful scent of roasted chestnuts, and my heart full of memories and joy. It was time to rest and recharge at my cozy little hotel near Hyde Park, adorned with twinkle lights and comfy chairs perfect for sipping tea. The festive atmosphere was warm and inviting, and I fell asleep listening to the gentle clinking of Christmas carols outside. I drifted off into a dreamy world, my mind replaying the sparkling beauty of London's festive spirit and the wonder of the ballet.
