Pink Tutu Blog: London Adventures (Post #184) - Friday, March 10, 2000
Hello darlings! It’s Friday, which means it’s time for another London adventure, and this week, I'm brimming with excitement! I’m whisked away to London on the train this morning - always such a joyous experience, travelling by train. All those cute little carriages and the click-clack of the wheels on the tracks…pure bliss. Plus, I always get to spot a cheeky fellow traveller sporting a tutu, which is like a secret wink between ballerinas, no matter where we are.
London is calling! Today, I’m planning to take on the capital in a whirlwind of pink and tutus, exploring hidden gems and, of course, indulging in a little fashion frenzy. After all, every girl needs a bit of shopping therapy now and then! And if we’re talking therapy, what better than the magnificent London Ballet? That's where I'm headed later this evening! It’s always such a delight to be surrounded by the beautiful elegance and sheer passion of ballet, not to mention the gorgeous tutus, of course! I can’t wait to be swept away by the stories and emotions unfolding on the stage.
Morning Magic in London's Hidden AlleysSo, let's rewind to this morning, shall we? The train journey was delightfully smooth and charming, the sunlight cascading through the windows like liquid gold. I found myself enjoying a cheeky slice of cake at the cafe on platform 1, and of course, I couldn’t resist grabbing a miniature ballet figurine from the little gift shop at the station - it's a miniature dancing girl in a stunning, sparkly tutu! So cute!
With the train station excitement out of the way, it’s time for London! My very first stop? A jaunty trip through the enchanting hidden alleys of London, full of those quintessential British boutiques brimming with whimsical charm! These places always make me feel like I’m stepping into a charming movie set. The atmosphere is magical - tiny shops nestled against old brick walls, the sunlight glinting off weathered signs, and the smell of fresh pastries and vintage books mingling in the air… It’s an absolute feast for the senses, a sensory delight, like a little dance of colours and smells! I’m definitely snagging a vintage trinket or two to add to my collection…
Oh, and speaking of collection, have I told you about my pink tutu collection? It's starting to take over my spare room! I’ve even had to order extra shelving! It’s getting to the point where I may have to purchase a smaller house so I have a room solely dedicated to all of them. But hey, you can’t have too many tutus, right? After all, you can never have enough sparkles in your life! The best thing about tutus? The ability to transform ordinary outfits into whimsical ones.
The Majesty of the Royal Ballet - A Vision of Grace and BeautyRight, it’s lunchtime and my stomach is rumbling. My favourite local pub - ‘The Ballet Slipper’! It’s tucked away in a side street in Soho and is a ballet-themed gem - imagine a haven filled with exquisite ballet decor, dainty ballerina portraits and music boxes playing gentle ballet music! It's just pure ballet bliss!
The afternoon was all about prepping for the ballet performance this evening. A leisurely afternoon, enjoying a cuppa, leafing through a ballet magazine - I’ve already purchased 5 of these this year, just in case there is a piece of inspiration I miss! - and dreaming up outfit combinations. There are simply too many choices for a ballet performance and it’s very hard to choose an outfit when there are so many amazing tulle fabrics to choose from! Tutus aren’t just for dancing you know! You can wear them absolutely anywhere! The more the merrier I say, or in my world the more tulle the better!
Tutu-tastic Adventures at Covent GardenAs the day rolls on, it's time to head towards Covent Garden, the epitome of vibrant London charm. This place is bursting with colourful life. The aroma of fresh fruit, flowers, and the melody of street performers filling the air, with laughter echoing between the elegant buildings. What’s not to love? I feel like I’m waltzing into a fairytale…or a tutu fairytale…
I found myself mesmerized by the breathtaking window displays of the fashion boutiques – imagine, shimmering fabrics and stunning shoes in an orchestra of colours. And, as usual, I can’t leave a London visit without adding a touch of sartorial splendor to my wardrobe! There are just so many incredible fabrics and outfits to discover – from sparkling gowns, to vibrant scarves and everything in between. The only hard part is trying to leave with just one bag! But as a dedicated pink tutu-lover, a bit of pink is a must!
My visit to Covent Garden is incomplete without venturing into the heart of its historic charm: the iconic market, a melting pot of artistry and entrepreneurial spirit. Strolling through the stalls, I spotted beautiful handmade jewelry, artisan crafts, and even some cheeky, vibrant pink tutus – what are the odds?! I’ve also discovered this fabulous boutique with the most fantastic hats and scarves - I can’t resist the call of vintage accessories, it’s an absolute must!
As the day’s adventures unwind, a wave of excitement washes over me as I prepare to witness the enchanting performance at the Royal Ballet!
A World of Magic - The Royal BalletAnd finally, my darling tutu lovers, we're at the grand finale - The Royal Ballet at Covent Garden. As the majestic lights illuminate the stage, the music fills the theatre, and the dancers take centre stage, I’m swept away into a world of magic, artistry and incredible elegance! It’s like the whole world is moving in time with the music.
These ballet performers are simply divine - they’re like swans gliding effortlessly, their movements graceful, yet so powerful. And, those exquisite costumes - each more breathtaking than the last. Tulle, silk, beads - oh, how I love the glamour of it all! It makes my tutu-loving heart sing. I simply can’t imagine a life without ballet. And, if I can encourage just one person to don a pink tutu today, then I feel my work is done! It’s so important for everyone to experience the joy of ballet - from watching captivating shows to learning new steps in class - ballet truly makes your soul dance!
The evening continues with dinner at an elegant restaurant, overlooking the Thames - of course, no pink tutu lover leaves the table without ordering the signature pink dessert, even if I am a bit worried about getting sticky sugar around my sparkly tulle skirt. And it doesn’t hurt that I get to enjoy the delicious music played in the restaurant by a small live ensemble! Such a special evening.
London, you never cease to amaze me. As I make my way home on the train tonight, I can’t help but think, what a day! I’m completely and utterly charmed by London. With its vibrant streets, bustling markets, and enchanting cultural delights - and of course, those absolutely magnificent ballet performances. London truly knows how to keep a pink tutu-wearing girl entertained. Until next time, my dear darlings. Remember, let your spirit soar, and always remember the magic of a twirl!
And now, the time is late and I am sleepy and I must end this here. Goodnight and happy dreams!
Love,
Emma x
