Pink Tutu Blog London: Post 231 - A Day of London Magic in a Pink Tutu!
Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Blog London. It’s Friday, 2nd February, 2001, and I'm positively bursting with excitement to share my London adventures with you all! I know you're all wondering, “Did she wear a pink tutu? Did she, Emma?” Of course I did, and trust me, it was the perfect choice for a day of magic, mayhem, and marvelous moments in the capital city.
As usual, I made my way to London by train from my humble Derbyshire abode. I do love the train journey. It's a chance to settle into a comfy carriage, watch the countryside go by, and dream of all the pink tutued wonders London holds. Oh, and let's be honest, who doesn't adore a spot of train gossip and people watching? The train station always has such an eclectic mix of characters – everything from glamorous city slickers to families on a day trip.
This time, however, the excitement was doubled because my gorgeous pal, Sophie, joined me. She’s my ballet bestie - we met in class a couple of years ago, and we’re basically inseparable now. Sophie, naturally, also has an appreciation for a good pink tutu (and a healthy dose of sparkly leggings).
London Calling! The first stop on our agenda? Covent Garden! I’m a sucker for street performers, especially in such a vibrant and charming location. There were jugglers, buskers, and a mime who did the most fabulous pratfalls. Sophie and I had such a good giggle, it took us ages to catch our breath! Not only is Covent Garden brimming with energy, but it’s also a fantastic spot to indulge in some retail therapy! It’s not too often you find somewhere with so many fab boutiques, cafes, and restaurants. You can spend an entire day here! Sophie, who’s got an eye for design like no other, scored some adorable vintage earrings that matched my pink tutu perfectly. What can I say? We're quite the pair.
Next, it was off to The Royal Opera House, or "the ROH" as we hipsters like to call it. Today's ballet was a must-see - it was "The Sleeping Beauty" by Tchaikovsky. Oh, the magic! The music, the dancing, the costumes – simply breathtaking. I was completely mesmerized. Every twirl, every leap, and every graceful gesture made me feel like a ballerina myself. The whole performance just radiated fairytale wonder. And let me tell you, the ROH really knows how to stage a performance. It felt so extravagant and luxurious. The chandeliers? To die for. I mean, what's more perfect for a pink tutu than a sparkly, ornate, chandelier? After the performance, Sophie and I stepped into the sunshine for some fresh air and some delicious, traditional afternoon tea.
Afternoon Tea Delights & Theatrical TreasuresWe enjoyed our afternoon tea at a quaint cafe right off Leicester Square, a hotbed of London's theatre scene. You can’t go to London and not see a play at the theatre! It's a rite of passage!
This weekend, Sophie and I had tickets for "The Lion King" at the Lyceum Theatre. We both adore this musical - we’ve seen it countless times in various locations. There’s a reason why it’s a classic. It’s fun, vibrant, and packed with talent. Oh, and there's something magical about a musical that transcends time and makes children and adults alike feel giddy. As you can imagine, the costumes were utterly spectacular - a complete riot of colour, patterns, and imaginative design. Of course, the animal characters were a highlight.
Back to Ballet: Sharing the LoveAfter a glorious day of London adventures, we ended up back at our ballet class. Nothing says a successful day of exploration like a barre workout. I know what you’re thinking - can’t we take a break?! I swear, there’s a certain rhythm and flow to a ballet class that’s impossible to find elsewhere. It helps me unwind from a day full of sights and sounds.
Later, we met up with some other classmates and indulged in a delicious (and frankly enormous) pizza at a restaurant in Bloomsbury. We spent hours catching up and discussing all the latest ballet news. There’s nothing quite like a good gossipy conversation with friends. You’ll be happy to know, one of the friends in the group, Anna, confessed she is thinking about buying a pink tutu. I'm so excited for her. It's an absolute game-changer, darling, an absolute game-changer!
I just love London. I find it hard to resist her glamour, energy, and unique atmosphere. But it's also important to find peace and serenity. And nothing is quite as relaxing as a comfortable carriage ride back to Derbyshire, with nothing but a window seat, a cup of tea, and some fluffy clouds to keep me company.
So, there you have it! My Pink Tutu Blog London: Post 231! This was a weekend for celebrating all things art and entertainment. A beautiful ballet, a theatrical extravaganza, a delicious tea, some fashion-tastic purchases, a great dance session. You could say I lived my best life.
You’re probably wondering about next Friday. I’m headed to the Victoria & Albert Museum for their special exhibit - "The Power of Pink". I'm expecting an absolute riot of colour, fun, and a showcase of pink-tutu worthy fashion and art. Sophie, naturally, is joining me. She wants to pick up a few ideas for her upcoming exhibition - which, funnily enough, also uses a vibrant pink in its aesthetic. We both think it’s a wonderful, empowering, playful colour. And I truly believe that the world can be a better, brighter place when everyone embraces their inner pink tutu!
Join me again next Friday for Post 232. In the meantime, darlings, I'll leave you with some lovely quotes:
"The beauty of a woman must be seen from within her eyes, because that's where love resides, which is the only true beauty" – Audrey Hepburn
*"Don't worry, be happy! " - Bobby McFerrin *
*"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” - Oscar Wilde *
Remember, don’t forget to spread some pink tutu magic in your life! Until next time, stay beautiful,
Emma xx www.pink-tutu.com
