Pink Tutu Blog: London Calling! #279

Friday, 4th January 2002

Good morning, darlings! 🩰

I’m writing this from the glorious capital city, London, with the scent of coffee and freshly baked croissants wafting through the window of my delightful hotel room. You wouldn't believe the journey, though.

Now, let me paint a picture for you. A bright pink tutu swishing with each excited hop off the train. Me, your favourite pink-loving ballerina, travelling all the way from Derbyshire to London by train! 🚄 Yes, the "iron horse" was the mode of transport for this weekend of ballet bliss!

I do love a good train journey, it’s the perfect chance to people-watch, catch up on my favourite novels, and indulge in a bit of pre-London shopping – a necessity for any true tutu-lover! I nabbed a bargain pink hat at the station kiosk, which was so chic with my hot pink tutu, it was almost a crime not to wear it on the platform! 😉

Speaking of pink, my dear friends, there's something truly magical about the colour! Think fluffy pink marshmallows, beautiful blossoming roses, the delicate shade of a baby's first outfit – pure magic! I've worn my favourite pink tutu for this weekend adventure, you see, it feels right for exploring a city so bursting with life!

But enough about pink! It's time to discuss the real reason for this London escapade – ballet! I’m here to catch two phenomenal shows! On Saturday night, the Royal Opera House will be hosting “Giselle,” and on Sunday, the English National Ballet at the Coliseum has a new production of “La Bayadère.” My goodness, how my heart flutters just thinking about it! 💖

So much to see, so much to do in London this weekend!

First up, it's time to embrace the quintessential London experience - Afternoon Tea! 🍰 You see, every girly girl deserves a bit of traditional elegance, especially when in London! I’m heading to Fortnum & Mason for an afternoon of tea, sandwiches, cakes, and delightful company! It's a time to relax, reflect, and embrace the charm of this wonderful city.

Once I've savored the quintessence of London tea, it's time for a little retail therapy. I've always been a fashionista at heart and this weekend is about treating myself. London has a treasure trove of chic boutiques to explore - from the timeless elegance of Harrods to the avant-garde creativity of independent designers. And, of course, my tutu needs to have a shopping adventure, too! Can't wait to find the perfect ballerina accessory! 🛍️

Evening plans involve an absolutely delectable meal at one of London's most renowned Italian restaurants, followed by a theatrical journey into the magical world of “Grease.” Grease is so nostalgic and classic! I simply can't resist a musical! I even found myself swaying to the music at breakfast this morning. The energy of the city really does inspire you! 🎶

Did You Know?

That this date marks a rather unique milestone in theatre history! A little-known fact about 4th January is that it is the birthday of legendary actress Dame Judi Dench, known for her iconic roles in numerous stage productions, and of course, the iconic M from the James Bond series. That is truly fitting as we talk about musicals and theatre, isn’t it?

After this bustling Friday of exploration, it’s time for bed. A London day wears you out but in a good way, of course!

So until next week, my darlings!

Stay tuned for more pink-tutu-filled adventures, my dears, from this delightful city. I will be back with the latest on everything from fashion, theatre, and ballet, and of course, all things pink! 🌸

And if you happen to be in London this weekend, keep your eyes peeled for a girl in a pink tutu! 😉

Remember, the world is our stage and we are all ballerinas at heart! 🩰

With love,

P.S. Remember, if you are travelling on a tight budget, you can still enjoy a spectacular weekend in London by utilising all that this amazing city has to offer for free! Walking tours, visiting public gardens, listening to the numerous free buskers and admiring the magnificent architecture are all activities to consider! It's just about finding the magic and charm hidden within each street corner, which in my opinion, is what makes London such a special city.

P.P.S. Did you see the beautiful floral display outside Harrods this week? It's a true testament to the creativity of London. Let me know in the comments if you think we should make pink flowers a new tutu-inspired theme! 🌸
