Pink Tutu Blog: London Adventures - Post #307

Friday, 19th July 2002

Oh, hello my lovely pink tutu wearers! It's Emma here, your favourite ballerina blogger, fresh back from a whirlwind day in London! The city of dreams, of fashion, of tutus, and it was just begging to be explored in all its glory. And how better to explore it than in my signature pink tutu, naturally!

This week, I'm trading my comfy Derbyshire countryside life for the bustling streets of London, thanks to a fabulous performance at the prestigious Sadler's Wells Theatre. A dream come true! Funding my passion for travel by dancing? Yes, please! It's all part of the pink tutu life, wouldn't you say?

London, by Train!

You know I adore train journeys - there's something so romantic and exciting about them, and the journey from Derbyshire to London felt even more magical because it meant London adventure was just around the corner!

My comfy little cabin was the perfect place to lose myself in a good book – Pride and Prejudice, of course, who can resist a bit of Mr. Darcy on a rainy afternoon? But I couldn’t resist taking a peek outside now and then – the lush green countryside slowly giving way to the city skyline – pure magic.

Welcome to London

As soon as the train pulled into Kings Cross Station, I felt that electric London buzz. There’s just something about this city!

My pink tutu naturally got a few glances – even in the most cosmopolitan city in the world, it’s hard to miss a girl in pink! A few nods and smiles confirmed to me that Londoners have an appreciation for the unconventional.

The station, a masterpiece of Victorian architecture, is always abuzz with life, a chaotic mix of tourists, commuters, and those simply passing through. The smell of freshly-baked pastries from a nearby stall added to the charm! I snagged a croissant – the perfect start to my London day!

Step one: Shop!

For a fashion girl like me, London is pure shopping paradise. After all, a ballerina's gotta look good! From the quirky boutiques on Covent Garden to the iconic department stores on Oxford Street, my heart skipped a beat at every shop window I passed.

It was like a fairytale! Imagine, racks overflowing with gorgeous tulle, satin, sequins – and my dream come true? Finding the perfect little pink tutu at a charming independent boutique in Kensington. It’s a delicate shade of blush pink, with layers and layers of tulle, and of course, a touch of glitter because a ballerina always needs a little sparkle, right?

Lunch time!

No day in London is complete without an afternoon tea – especially for a tutu-wearing blogger! And this time, I was in for a real treat. My destination: Fortnum & Mason – London’s oldest and most iconic department store. I imagined all the history that these grand halls had witnessed. Imagine all the tutus!

The afternoon tea itself was utterly decadent – finger sandwiches, delicate cakes, and bottomless cups of Earl Grey tea. But for me, the highlight was the pink and white china. How perfect for a tutu-wearing girl! My tutu really complimented the exquisite atmosphere, creating an almost whimsical scene. I truly felt like I was a ballerina stepping out of a storybook!

Fashion in Bloom!

London is, of course, a fashion hub. And this weekend, the city was even more stylish than usual. The Chelsea Flower Show was in full bloom. I love a bit of colour, and this event is pure visual delight. Flowers are a perfect inspiration for my ballet designs. The bright hues, textures, and delicate beauty just makes me want to dance.

A Ballet Night!

The highlight of my London trip was seeing Giselle at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre! It's truly magical – the music, the dancing, the emotions! I felt transported to a world of fantasy. I adore how ballet expresses emotions through graceful movement. The tutus? Absolutely exquisite! They twirled and flowed like poetry in motion!

After the performance, I had the absolute delight of chatting with the dancers themselves – I felt like I had stepped into a dream! They shared tips for perfecting my fouettes (always tricky!), and I even got a few inside stories about backstage life.

As I made my way back to Kings Cross Station, it was already late – the lights of the city sparkled and glistened. The city had a romantic and enchanting atmosphere, something you could only truly experience after dark. The rhythm of the night was almost like a beat to a waltz.

My Tutu’s London Diary!

It was a whirlwind day – full of glamour, fashion, and just the right amount of sparkle. A perfect mix of creativity, romance and pink! I have no doubt my London journey was inspired. My ballerina journey just took an exciting turn! I just love those train rides - always give me a chance to daydream about future London Adventures! See you all next Friday – London here we come!

What I wore:

This Friday, I chose a ballerina pink tutu with a subtle floral pattern, topped with a delicate cream blouse. It's a combination of romantic charm and a hint of London flair! To give it a touch of London glamour, I added a stunning pair of vintage earrings – perfectly matching the blush pink in my tutu, Of course, I wouldn’t be complete without a ballerina-style hair bow – it's all in the details, darlings!

Upcoming Shows:

Make sure you mark your calendars! Next weekend, I’ll be showcasing my newest creations at a delightful showcase in Derbyshire! The local ballet studio asked me to do a little something special to promote their upcoming workshops, so I decided to put on a tutu-themed fashion show! There will be cake! And a chance to show off your best twirl! Details will be on my website soon – be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss out.

Until next Friday, wear your tutus proudly!

Love,

Emma
