Pink Tutu Blog London - #432 - Friday, December 10th, 2004: Tutu-ing Through London! 🩰💖
Hello my lovely Pink Tutu followers! It's Friday again, and you know what that means… a brand new Pink Tutu Blog post! This week I’m trading the quiet life in Derbyshire for the vibrant energy of London town! The train journey down is always so exciting, I love gazing out of the window and spotting all the familiar sights, especially as we zoom through the beautiful English countryside. My pink tutu always gets a few curious glances on the train - a little publicity never hurts, eh? 😉
Today’s adventure is a real mishmash of everything I love: theatre, shopping, and, of course, some serious ballet inspiration. The day started with a fabulous performance at the Royal Opera House - the London ballet was showcasing 'Swan Lake' - pure enchantment! The costumes were divine (they always are at the ROH!), the dancers were spectacular, and the music just took me away to another world. It’s hard not to get a little misty eyed during that final scene… such romance! I absolutely love that the London ballet still holds on to some of the traditional aspects of ballet. I really did feel like I’d stepped back in time for a couple of hours.
Afterward, I found myself whisked away to Covent Garden, a place that never fails to capture my imagination. From the charming shops and street performers to the aroma of freshly baked croissants wafting from the little cafes - it's a true London experience! I popped into a delightful boutique selling vintage clothing, and found the most darling pair of shoes to compliment my latest tutu. Let’s just say I might have treated myself… because a girl’s gotta have options! 😉
Of course, no trip to London is complete without a little retail therapy, and this afternoon, Oxford Street was calling! The buzz of people, the enticing window displays - it was just a smorgasbord of fashionable inspiration! I picked up some absolutely gorgeous knitwear from Topshop (I am quite partial to the colour pink!), and a new sparkly clutch bag perfect for all those upcoming ballet nights. I’ve got a rather fabulous dress that will make it truly shine.
Before the sun started to dip below the skyline, I caught a breathtaking show at the Shakespeare’s Globe theatre, a fantastic and unexpected journey into a different realm. The play was about the history of English theatre - very clever! After the show, the entire cast danced a traditional Elizabethan jig with us audience members. So fun and exciting! I even managed to capture the experience on camera! I swear I saw a twinkle in some of the male actors eyes when I did a couple of little turns with my Tutu – those chaps might just be converting to the cause! 😉
Later on, after enjoying a delicious supper of fish and chips (it’s a London classic!), I finally decided to take advantage of my hotel’s fabulous bathtub, complete with scented bath salts and luxurious bubble bath! Perfect for winding down after a long, inspiring day. Tomorrow, I’ll explore a different side of London - maybe I’ll venture out to the Tower of London, visit the Queen’s official residence, or even head to the seaside for a brisk seaside walk! It really depends on how my pink tutu is feeling. 😊
One thing I do know for certain: I can’t wait to write about my adventures again next week. London never fails to spark creativity and make me feel like a little ballerina princess, especially when I'm sporting my trusty pink tutu! Until then, stay pink, my fellow Tutu lovers, and remember: a little pink tutu goes a long way! 🌸
And now for a few fun facts from today!
- Did you know that 'Swan Lake' was originally commissioned by a wealthy Russian businessman named Vladimir Petrovich Karamzin?
- Oxford Street is one of the busiest shopping streets in the world, with an estimated 200,000 shoppers visiting every day.
- Shakespeare's Globe was rebuilt in 1997 to replicate the original Elizabethan playhouse, using only traditional materials and techniques.
Until next week, stay tuned! If you have any suggestions for things I should explore on my future visits, let me know in the comments section. And, if you’ve taken the leap and started rocking your own pink tutu - don’t forget to share your stories with me! You never know, you might just become a future star of this very blog!
See you next Friday!
Lots of Pink Love,
Emma
