Pink Tutu Blog London: Post #496 - Friday 3rd March 2006

London Calling!

Oh darling, you won't believe the adventures I had this week! I absolutely adore London. There's something truly magical about this city, and the way it wraps its arms around you with all its history and energy. My weekend was just bursting with beautiful things, from gorgeous fashion finds to the most captivating theatrical performance.

Train Travel: The Pink Tutu in Motion

The journey from Derbyshire was utterly blissful. There's just something about watching the world rush past your window from the comfort of a train. I was lucky enough to grab a window seat, and as the sun dipped behind the hills, I dreamt of all the delightful things that awaited me in London. You know, there's something about a train ride that just sets your mind at ease - like everything's going to be perfectly perfect, even if you're travelling in a pink tutu!

London, Oh London

My first stop was a little detour from the usual tourist hotspots, darling. A visit to the V&A (The Victoria and Albert Museum), tucked away on the southern edge of Kensington Gardens. If you love beautiful things, like I do, you HAVE to visit this museum! My goodness, it’s a treasure trove of stunning fabrics, costumes, furniture and exquisite objects d'art from around the globe! The intricate designs of the costumes and jewellery - absolute perfection. It's inspiring! The exhibition I saw was "The Glamour of the Gown", with stunning historical dresses. The whole day felt like I had stepped out of a fairytale.

The Ballet: Beauty in Motion

This weekend, I treated myself to a trip to the Royal Opera House. I simply HAD to see "La Bayadere", a classic ballet I've been longing to see for years. It’s one of the most visually spectacular ballets with its extravagant costumes, amazing dancing, and just enough drama to keep you on the edge of your seat. My heart danced along with the exquisite moves, and every pirouette was just as beautiful as the last! I couldn't help myself, a couple of tears escaped during the most breathtaking pas de deux. The sheer brilliance of human artistry! I was left absolutely captivated!

Fashion Finds - London Style

No trip to London is complete without a little fashion adventure. My must-go stop was Liberty's, a shop that feels like a luxurious, beautiful dream come true. With its elaborate Victorian architecture, and a treasure trove of exquisite fabrics, vintage pieces, and of course, a sprinkle of modern designer wear, this shop is an absolute must for anyone who loves to surround themselves with lovely things! My tutu-loving self just had to pick up some fabric for a new design... It’s such a wonderful blend of history and modern style.

Dining Delights: Pink Tutus & Food

London’s a foodies paradise. But darling, this weekend was all about feeling a little extra special, so naturally I went to a charming restaurant called “The Wolseley”. I swear, every corner was adorned with plush velvet, shimmering chandeliers and beautifully polished furniture. They serve delicious classics and traditional British dishes, perfect for my post-ballet cravings. And let me tell you, darling, I devoured every bite! Just picture this – I had a delightful fish pie and a delicious glass of Pinot Grigio, while watching the world go by outside the large window.

A Peek into the Past - The Covent Garden Markets

One of my favorite ways to explore the city is by getting lost in the enchanting, historic markets, and one of my all-time favourite places to visit is Covent Garden. A maze of fascinating shops, charming eateries and artists’ studios. The Victorian iron and glass structure just has the most incredible sense of history and I just had to visit.

Fashion Inspiration - The Fashion Scene

Now, if you're like me, darling, you'll probably already know that London is a fashionista's paradise. I just love walking down streets like Oxford Street, just taking in all the eye candy! And to soak in all the fashion trends, a trip to The Old Truman Brewery just had to happen. I went there on Friday night. Oh darling, it’s a fashion frenzy, the place to be for all the latest collections from upcoming independent designers. My shopping bags filled with gorgeous, new items.

Pink Tutus on the Move

One of the many magical things about London is how everything seems within reach, easily accessible. A quick and easy journey on the underground took me to the Barbican Theatre, a place known for cutting-edge and contemporary performances. The Barbican itself, is a beautiful, architectural wonder.

Evening Delight – The Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House

Speaking of the Barbican… on my way to this wonderful venue I discovered that “Royal Ballet, La Bayadere” was playing, and wouldn’t you know, I was only about 15 minutes from The Royal Opera House. It seemed that fate was determined that I have a delightful double-ballet-bill for this day. So, after the fantastic show at the Barbican I headed across to the Covent Garden. And again, oh darling, this incredible performance, all I can say is that every step, every pirouette, was absolutely glorious. Such an amazing ending to this wonderful weekend in the fabulous London!
