Pink Tutu Blog London: Friday 2008-12-26 – Adventures in the Big Smoke! 🩰✨

Post number 643

Hello, lovelies! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, back with another Friday blog post, this time from the dazzling, ever-inspiring city of London! 💖

As many of you know, I love travelling by train, and this week, I took the scenic route from my little corner of Derbyshire straight to the heart of the bustling city. A few performances at the local theatre in Buxton (my first time dancing the Sugar Plum Fairy, it was divine!) had filled my ballet-fund coffers, and London had been calling my name.

Pink Tutu-ready for the City:

I was definitely ready for the day in London, outfit-wise, of course. A lovely, sparkly pink tutu, of course, this one featuring delicate floral embroidery. It just feels so right for London! It’s light and twirly, and yet somehow manages to still look sophisticated against the backdrop of all the chic shops and impressive buildings. (Who says you can’t rock a tutu in a bustling city, huh? It’s all about the attitude!) 😉 I paired it with a delicate black lace top and my trusty, elegant black ballet flats – just enough glitz and glam to feel confident and excited about exploring!

Train Journeys & Tea!

The train ride itself was a lovely way to start the day, all cosiness and that nostalgic, gentle rocking motion that makes train journeys so calming. I found myself sketching out some ballet routines in my notepad, taking a moment to enjoy the green countryside rushing past. There’s something magical about train journeys – I even snagged a delicious hot chocolate with marshmallows on the platform! It was just what I needed for a perfect start to my London escapade.

Afternoon Adventures & Afternoon Tea at The Ritz

London welcomed me with its iconic charm – bright, shiny red buses, imposing stately buildings, and, of course, an array of delicious aromas from the street vendors! My first stop was Covent Garden. The festive decorations were absolutely gorgeous – sparkling lights everywhere and a lovely seasonal feeling in the air. I couldn’t resist snapping a photo of myself, tutu swirling and all, in front of the grand Christmas tree! 🎄

And then… it was time for the highlight of my London trip! An afternoon tea at The Ritz! It's just SO glamourous! The opulent atmosphere, the tinkling piano music, the exquisitely-prepared tea sandwiches, scones, and, of course, a delightful assortment of pastries and sweet treats. The classic English tea service – a true London tradition and a real dream come true! (And yes, I managed to gracefully enjoy all the treats in my pink tutu! No mishaps! 💃✨ )

Dancing with the Stars

Feeling thoroughly satisfied and inspired, I headed towards the iconic Royal Opera House for the evening. Oh, the excitement! Today was a special night for dance lovers: "The Nutcracker!" The production was breathtaking – stunning costumes, graceful dancers, and a captivating performance. It transported me to a magical, festive world, and the intricate choreography left me in awe. I had a huge smile on my face throughout, feeling the joy of dance radiating through my every being.

Shop ’til you drop - London’s Fashon Heaven!

No London trip would be complete without indulging in a bit of retail therapy, of course! My first stop was Harrods. It’s a total fashion wonderland! Rows and rows of elegant shoes, delicate jewellery, and dazzling dresses - it’s enough to make even the most stoic fashionista giddy. I particularly loved their lingerie section; they had a magnificent array of pink lace-trimmed garments. I actually found myself adding a few items to my shopping basket – what can I say, a girl can't resist beautiful lingerie!

Then, it was off to Selfridges. Their shoe department was an absolute dream! I’m not ashamed to admit I spent at least an hour wandering around, trying on different heels, stilettos, and platforms. They also had a great selection of sparkly pink handbags. I just couldn't leave without adding one to my collection - the perfect finishing touch for my outfit on days when a tutu isn’t practical. (They did come in black though, for those of you not as pink-obsessed as myself! 😉)

Late Night City Lights

After shopping til I nearly dropped, I had to reward myself with some London nightlife! The bustling lights and energy of Covent Garden and Soho felt exhilarating after a busy day exploring the city. And let’s face it – there's nothing quite like soaking up the atmosphere with a cup of delicious hot chocolate from a street stall.

Ballet in London, Always a Dream Come True!

The city never fails to inspire and enchant. There’s an energy and vitality to London, a feeling of constant movement and newness, that I absolutely love. It was the perfect weekend escape from the gentle peace of Derbyshire. A big city, a pink tutu, and a little bit of sparkle – what more could I ask for? ✨

But all good things must come to an end. And now, I must return to my little village in Derbyshire, carrying the magic of London in my heart and in my head, forever dreaming of its colourful lights, the sweet aroma of the bakeries, and the graceful movements of the ballerinas at the Royal Opera House.

As for you, lovelies, why not embrace your inner ballerina this week? Maybe don a pink tutu, put on your favourite ballet music, and twirl around your living room. Life's too short to not dance like no one's watching! 💖

And, remember to stay tuned for next week’s post, as I’m sharing some of my favourite pink tutu shopping spots in London! 😉

Until then, happy dancing! 🩰
