Pink Tutu Blog: London Calling! #734

Friday 2010-09-24

Hello my darling readers, it's your favourite tutu-wearing travel enthusiast, Emma, and this week, I'm whisking you off to the magical city of London! Itā€™s my first trip since my successful debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (I won ā€œBest Dressed Performerā€, a trophy practically designed for me in a giant pink tutu!), and I'm absolutely bursting with excitement to share my London adventures with you.

Train Travel in Style

I love travelling by train. The rhythm of the wheels on the tracks, the fleeting glimpses of countryside scenery, the chance to escape into a good book (Iā€™m currently enjoying ā€œPride and Prejudiceā€, my second favourite book after ā€œThe Little Ballet Bookā€). Plus, a train journey is the perfect opportunity to show off your fabulous outfit.

This time, I donned a crisp white blouse with my signature pink tutu (this one adorned with a whimsical, embroidered scattering of white ballet shoes, of course!), a wide-brimmed floral hat and matching blush pink heels. I've been working hard at my ballet classes in Derby, and the extra legwork on my train journey just meant I was practically pirouetting in my seat by the time I arrived in London's bustling King's Cross station.

Stepping into London's Heart

London has this undeniable air of magic and excitement. Itā€™s hard to feel anything but exhilarated when you step off the train and breathe in the fresh city air. Today, the sun is shining, and London is buzzing with activity. My heart was practically tap-dancing in my chest.

London in Pink

First things first, shopping! It's practically a religion for a girl like me, especially when you're in a city that's overflowing with amazing boutiques. Today's target: Regent Street! As soon as I walked down the street, I was bombarded with the sights, sounds and smells of London. My eyes were wide with wonder at all the colourful clothing displays and beautiful architecture. It's practically a sensory overload of happiness. I picked up a stunning floral head scarf that I just knew would look divine paired with my favourite lavender-coloured tulle tutu. Of course, I canā€™t forget about pink shoes; after all, whatā€™s a tutu without perfect shoes? I ended up with a pair of sparkly, pink ballet flats. My heart fluttered.

Lunch with a View

I rewarded myself for my retail therapy with a scrumptious lunch at The Ivy on the West End. It's the kind of place where you just know you're in the heart of the city ā€“ and the food is delicious too. I enjoyed a salmon and avocado salad, accompanied by a glass of refreshing sparkling lemonade (just the fuel I needed for my exciting day). I couldn't resist a slice of the divine strawberry tart, it just felt wrong to resist!

Dancing into the Night

My Friday wouldn't be complete without a little theatrical treat! I have tickets to see a show at the National Theatre tonight ā€“ I can't give away too much, but let's just say it's a classic with some very interesting twists. My Tutu-wear of choice tonight is a deep burgundy tulle masterpiece, perfect for embracing the drama and excitement of theatreland. After all, nothing adds more flair to a classic red dress than a dramatic pink tutu, right?

The Pink Tutu Mission Continues

So there you have it, my darling readers, a little peek into my Friday adventures in London. As always, I hope it has inspired you to embrace the pink in your life and maybe even try on a tutu or two. I'm convinced there's a tutu for every woman (and man!), and maybe one day I'll see the whole world dancing in a symphony of pink!

Until next week, keep dancing!

Emma
