Pink Tutu Blog: London Calling! #797
Friday, 9th December 2011
Oh darling! The London adventure continues! I boarded the train from my quaint little Derbyshire village, clutching my favourite fluffy pink cardigan and, of course, my tutu! Itās the ultimate travel companion; always twirly, always cheerful, always ready for an impromptu dance-off. And honestly, it's impossible not to be in a good mood when you're surrounded by a sea of pink tulle!
Iām loving London in December. The city has such a festive buzz! I caught glimpses of beautifully decorated shop windows with a smattering of twinkling lights and snow-dusted rooftops. There's something incredibly romantic about London at this time of year.
Breakfast of Champions: A Sweet Treat
My stomach started to rumble, demanding its usual Friday morning fuel. This is how I rolled when in London: finding a lovely, tucked-away cafe with charmingly chipped paint and steaming mugs of hot chocolate topped with marshmallows. The best bit? It was right near Covent Garden. A girl's gotta get her sugar fix!
Covent Garden: Where the magic happens!
I've always loved Covent Garden. There's a vibrant, eclectic energy to it. I lost myself for a couple of hours exploring the stalls ā it's such a delightful treasure trove of all things handmade, sparkly and utterly enchanting! My shopping bag filled up with gifts for my darling sister (pink bow-tie necklace, you can't go wrong) and some cute little pink knitted gloves for myself, which I swear, had an intrinsic twirling factor!
Dance! Dance! Dance!
Later, I wandered around the Royal Opera House. This iconic building has hosted some of the greatest ballets in the world. I love to stand outside, letting my imagination wander through the grand history of this architectural masterpiece. Then, it was on to the English National Balletās beautiful performance of āThe Nutcracker.ā It was so wonderful seeing everyone getting swept away by the story. Thereās truly nothing quite like the power of dance to unite people. And if I'm being honest, the show itself almost rivalled my own fabulous pink tutu!
Dinner and a Theatre Show
The evening was brimming with magic! First, a delightful Italian dinner (with a touch of pink wine, obviously) at a quaint little trattoria on King's Road, where I spent hours indulging in a lively conversation with a sweet, charming old lady about the "divine power" of ballet shoes. She insisted I should have gone for pink velvet (although I have to confess my preference is for silk)!
The final hurrah of the day involved a trip to the theatre. The glorious London Palladium was glowing like a beacon in the city's dark night, a testament to its history of brilliant entertainment. Today, however, the highlight was the stage production of 'Cats.' Yes, darling, it's a bit kitsch, but that's exactly why I love it! You just have to see it to believe it! Those dancing, leaping felines... truly iconic!
Feeling like a True Londoner
This whole London experience feels surreal, yet so utterly genuine. My little pink tutu has travelled far and wide with me, making new memories along the way, spreading its signature dose of whimsical cheer. London seems to absorb you, taking you on a wild journey of exploration, and leaving you brimming with laughter, inspiration, and just a little bit of magic.
Now, let's be real, my darlings, London wouldn't be complete without a late-night pint (and perhaps a little midnight dancing!), so Iām off to meet a couple of lovely ladies for a nightcap in a charming, hidden-away pub!
Iāll keep you updated with more tales from my London adventures next Friday. Don't forget to check in to www.pink-tutu.com for a fresh dose of twirls and pink fashion inspiration!
