Pink Tutu Blog London: Post 801 - Friday 2012-01-06 - A Day of Pink and Poise in London

Oh, London, how I adore thee! The vibrant energy, the endless charm, the chic shops, the breathtaking ballet - it's all just intoxicating!

This week, I'm trading my Derbyshire hills for the bustling streets of London, and believe me, my pink tutu is packed and ready to twirl! The journey from Derbyshire to London by train is always a delight. There's something magical about watching the world roll by outside the window, especially with the scent of freshly baked scones filling the carriage.

Of course, my trusty pink tutu made an appearance on the journey, creating quite a stir amongst my fellow passengers. A young boy with bright eyes stared at me with a mixture of awe and curiosity. I winked and gave him a little twirl, much to his delight. It's always lovely to share a little sparkle with the world, even if it's a fleeting moment!

My first stop upon arriving in London was, of course, a grand adventure into the world of fashion. I’m not sure what’s more thrilling – choosing the perfect new outfit or admiring the latest ballet shoe collection at the world-famous dance shops! After a whirlwind afternoon in Liberty and Selfridges, I emerged feeling completely ready to take on the city with a sparkling new pink blouse, a pair of oh-so-lovely ballet flats, and a mischievous twinkle in my eye.

The rest of the afternoon was dedicated to my ultimate love – ballet! As fate would have it, I landed tickets to the Royal Ballet's performance of “The Nutcracker” at the Royal Opera House. Imagine my absolute glee! I was literally dancing in the aisles before the performance even started, completely swept away by the sheer magic of it all. The intricate steps, the expressive gestures, the stunning costumes, the captivating music – it all simply took my breath away!

My day concluded with a delightful supper at a charming little cafe just off Covent Garden. Surrounded by the twinkling lights and festive cheer of the market, I tucked into a warm lentil soup with a crusty baguette, savoring every delicious bite. It was the perfect end to a perfect day!

Here are my highlights of Friday in London:

Fashion Fun

  • A trip to Liberty: A haven for exquisite fabrics and stylish pieces. I was mesmerized by their wide array of patterns and textures, the delicate lace trim on everything from dresses to scarves, and the beautifully displayed collections from renowned designers. Liberty has such a unique charm; it feels like stepping into a fairy tale.

  • Selfridges: This grand department store truly is a palace of dreams! I was drawn to the Fashion Edit space showcasing the most coveted designers and trends. I even tried on a dazzling evening dress - let's just say, I'm saving that one for a very special occasion! It’s so exciting to see the latest fashions and feel the buzz of the city come to life in the dazzling window displays.

  • Shopping for my ballet wardrobe: No London trip would be complete without visiting the renowned dance shops on Covent Garden. I snagged a pair of beautiful new pointe shoes that are just begging to be twirled, and several chic outfits for class that are as stylish as they are comfortable. These are my favourite stores for all things dance, and they are just steps from the heart of London!

The Nutcracker

Oh, the magic of "The Nutcracker!" The Royal Ballet performed this beloved classic with such finesse and emotion, I was completely captivated. The costumes were incredible - a feast for the eyes - and the stage production was just beautiful. Every little detail was impeccable, and the sheer skill of the dancers brought the story to life in a truly mesmerizing way. The breathtaking performance left me filled with wonder and joy! I could have watched it for hours!

The London Ballet Experience

Attending a ballet performance in London is always a treat. The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, has a history as rich as the productions it hosts. There is simply nothing quite like stepping inside this grand and opulent theatre, breathing in the rich air of its history. There's an undeniable energy in this place, a spirit of creative passion and excitement that fills you from head to toe.

A Final Word...

Every day in London is a new adventure. But with my pink tutu on, I'm ready for anything this city throws at me! Be sure to join me again next Friday for another glimpse into my London escapades. And until then, keep twirling and never forget the joy of a pink tutu!
