Pink Tutu Blog London: Friday 2012-03-16 - A Tutuful Day in the Big Smoke!
Oh, London, London! You really are the most magical city in the world! And this week, I'm diving headfirst into all your vibrant delights. I'm back in the capital for another fabulous adventure, fueled by a successful run of The Sleeping Beauty in my hometown of Derby and a wardrobe full of newly purchased tutu-tiful attire.
Train to London: Tutu in Vogue!
I always love a good train journey. It's the perfect opportunity to put on my latest pink outfit - today, a gorgeous floral print tutu paired with a cream cashmere cardigan and a vintage pink beret. My trusty travel bag is bursting with essentials - a good book (I'm currently lost in the whimsical world of The Little Prince), my favourite travel-sized ballet barre for impromptu stretches, and a secret stash of pink glitter. Who knows when I might need a touch of sparkle on the go?
The train journey was as charming as ever, with friendly faces, bustling chatter, and the rhythmic rumble of the tracks a gentle lullaby against the ever-changing landscape. I even managed to squeeze in a few ballet stretches in my seat (to the curious stares of some, I admit!). I can’t imagine any other mode of travel offering such a delightful combination of comfort, adventure, and sartorial self-expression.
London Landing: Tutu's Take on the City!
London station. It's a haven of chaotic, joyous energy. Tourists in awe, commuters dashing about, and me, twirling gently with the pink-hued excitement of a little girl on her first ballet recital. The air buzzed with excitement, and I couldn't help but catch the feeling. It's like London welcomes you with open arms, eager to share its captivating charm.
A Spot of Theatre: The Magic of the National
My first stop was the National Theatre. The towering edifice, standing proudly against the backdrop of the Southbank, looked as though it had been plucked straight out of a fairytale. The grandeur of it, with its imposing columns and sweeping staircases, was utterly thrilling! I'd snagged last-minute tickets for The Tempest and was utterly mesmerized by the production.
Seeing Shakespeare in the National is a real treat! The play’s message about betrayal, magic, and the beauty of forgiveness was brought to life with a masterful combination of powerful acting, incredible sets, and the most ingenious costumes! The scene where Prospero finally embraces forgiveness with his enemies was particularly touching. It made me realise how much magic we carry within ourselves - the ability to choose compassion and understanding over anger and resentment.
Fashion Finds and Tutu Delights in Covent Garden:
No London visit would be complete without a visit to Covent Garden. It's a treasure trove of delights, from the bustling marketplace with its vibrant stalls overflowing with artisan treasures and exotic delicacies to the captivating performances that often burst into life in the heart of the square. Today, the central stage was a dazzling tapestry of vibrant music and graceful movement with an impromptu Flamenco show! The rhythmic stomping, the twirling skirts, and the passionate music made for a thrilling performance!
Of course, I couldn't resist a little shopping therapy. I was especially excited to find a charming little vintage boutique nestled between a pottery shop and a cheese vendor. There I snagged a stunningly embroidered pink tutu with intricate silver embroidery! It’s simply divine.
Afternoon Tea: Ballet Bites and Pink Bubbles!
To round out my London escapade, nothing could be more delightful than a delightful afternoon tea. The setting, an elegant tea room on a street brimming with pastel-coloured Victorian terraces, added a touch of enchanting charm to the experience.
The array of delightful treats was irresistible. There were dainty finger sandwiches with a medley of fillings, melt-in-your-mouth scones drizzled with clotted cream, and the most delectable pastries imaginable! They even served pink prosecco - how chic is that? I’m definitely adding this to my London must-dos from now on!
