Pink Tutu Blog London - Post #814: Friday 2012-04-06 - London Calling!

Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, and I’m back from another whirl around London town, armed with more fabulous tales and photos for you! This week, I swapped the tranquil Derbyshire countryside for the bustling city streets, hopping aboard the train for a day trip to the big smoke!

Remember how I told you all about how much I adore train journeys? Well, I swear there’s something about being on a train that sets my creative juices flowing, so you know it was going to be a fabulous day!

From Peak District Views to Big Ben

It's funny, isn't it? One moment you’re gazing at rolling hills and sleepy villages, then suddenly, the train screams into London's iconic stations – the majestic St Pancras with its gleaming architecture or the always-thriving King’s Cross, buzzing with travellers from all over the world.

Before I knew it, I was in London. My trusty pink tutu, of course, got the full London treatment with a new, fabulous feather boa - perfect for a spot of theatre later!

First Stop: Fashion Frenzy at Oxford Street

As you know, a day in London simply wouldn’t be complete without some shopping! Oxford Street is the heart of fashion and shopping, and it never fails to enchant me. With its endless shops and colourful displays, I was spoilt for choice.

My first stop was a divine vintage store – I always manage to find such amazing gems. Who could resist a fabulous silk scarf with a floral design that whispered of a Parisian tea party?

Next, I explored the endless aisles of Topshop and H&M. You know me, a pink tutu is great, but a girl can't live on pink tutus alone! There were so many lovely spring dresses and adorable cardigans that caught my eye, all ready to pair with a vibrant pink accessory! I’m sure my Instagram followers were delighted with the behind-the-scenes shopping spree snapshots.

Time for Theatre Magic

Now, for something completely different… after my retail therapy, it was time to soak up some culture!

Today's theatre pick? A show that left me truly enthralled, ‘The Phantom of the Opera’. Oh, the haunting music, the chilling storyline, and those opulent sets. I swear I could feel the drama in the air – it was almost palpable!

I don't know about you darlings, but the combination of music, performance, and elaborate costuming makes my ballerina heart flutter. And let's face it, it wouldn't be a London outing without at least one theatrical treat!

Dinner in Covent Garden

After the Phantom had haunted me (in a good way, of course), it was time for some much-needed sustenance.

You'll find me indulging in some exquisite French cuisine - let's be honest, I'm not a foodie who does things by halves! Covent Garden, with its vibrant street performers, dazzling shopfronts, and the most incredible mix of eateries, was the perfect place to dine. I discovered this amazing little bistro with the most charming atmosphere, and it offered the best French Onion Soup I’ve ever tasted! I finished the evening with a delectable raspberry macaron - it was absolutely divine!

Ballet, Beauty, and the Big Ben

Before I knew it, the sun was beginning to set, casting a beautiful orange glow over London's iconic skyline. But of course, my adventure wasn't complete without a final glimpse of Big Ben. There’s something about its imposing presence, standing tall over the city, that never ceases to fascinate me.

For those who missed it on my Instagram, I definitely took some quintessential pink tutu shots with Big Ben in the background! And trust me, it looked as perfect as it sounds!

Back on the Train - And Back to Reality

After a day brimming with theatre magic, fashion finds, and captivating London vibes, I boarded my train journey back home, content and brimming with inspiration. There's a magic to a London day trip that makes everything feel more glamorous, and I was buzzing with ideas! I already can't wait to return and discover more hidden gems, sample some more delicious delicacies, and get swept away by another enchanting performance!
