#PinkTutuBlogLondon: Friday 2012-06-08 - Tutu-ing Around Town!

Hello lovelies!

It’s Emma here, back from my Derbyshire home and ready to bring you a whirl of pink London goodness. It’s Friday, and you know what that means – it’s time to put on my favourite pink tutu and head out to explore this amazing city! This is post number 823, so buckle up for another dazzling week of fashion, fun and ballet.

You know I’m a firm believer in making every journey a bit more magical. That’s why I chose to take the train down from Derbyshire. I just love the romance of it all, gazing at the rolling countryside, imagining all the adventures the train carriages have carried over the years. My train ticket was practically paid for from my latest ballet performance (yes, I can barely contain my excitement, it was a smashing success!) And it felt like a true treat to be gliding through the English countryside, towards my beloved London.

Now, Friday is my favourite day in the whole week! London just hums with excitement on a Friday afternoon. And this Friday is a double treat because today, the vibrant Covent Garden piazza will be bursting with the colours and textures of the ‘Apple Day’ market.

A Covent Garden Paradise:

It’s the perfect place to soak in London’s energy, mingle with people from all over the world, and admire the delicious bounty of seasonal apples. And I, of course, was on the hunt for the prettiest apples to bring back to my apartment (yes, it's a lovely little flat in Bloomsbury. Just a short stroll from the famous British Museum!). It felt like I stepped into a Jane Austen novel – those cobbled streets, the quaint flower stalls, the charming cafes spilling out onto the piazza... It was simply delightful.

The smell of cinnamon, and the sight of glistening red and green apples, well, that’s enough to make any girl swoon. (And honestly, it's hard to resist a juicy red apple after all that train travel). I was even lucky enough to be serenaded by a street violinist – pure romanticism, and I just had to film it all. Imagine the adorable pink tutu twirling along with the music!

Pink Fashion Fun!

My mission was to find the most incredible pink apple-inspired ensemble – something utterly unique, of course. London is truly a treasure trove of gorgeous pink fashion, but let me tell you, after exploring Covent Garden, my trusty old friend - The Vintage Market, in Camden Town – was calling. You wouldn’t believe the amazing outfits I found tucked away there – so many dazzling pink options.

It's so much fun getting lost amongst those racks of retro treasures. There’s just something truly magical about discovering hidden vintage gems. A playful bubblegum pink polka dot dress with ruffles and a chic oversized pink satin coat, they just spoke to me!

Later, I joined the lively atmosphere in the courtyard at The Ivy restaurant in Covent Garden for a delicious (pink) rhubarb crumble with lashings of custard. Let's just say it was the perfect conclusion to a day of London discoveries.

My Tutuful Travel Diary:

My journey across London was a ballet of its own, full of excitement and discovery! Here are some of my favourite highlights:

Ballet Heaven!

First stop, the stunning Royal Opera House! (Honestly, this iconic building just gets me all giddy.) It’s one of my absolute favourite places on the planet, and today, it hosted a captivating matinee of Tchaikovsky’s “The Sleeping Beauty” (A classic ballet must-see for any tutu-lover, obviously!) The dancers were incredible, with such power and elegance, their costumes so sumptuous – a dazzling kaleidoscope of colour. I almost wanted to hop onto the stage myself – I can always see myself there one day (after a little more practice, of course!)

Shakespeare's Inspiration:

And who could resist a walk by Shakespeare's Globe theatre? What a perfect spot for some impromptu “dramatic” twirling, right? Imagine the history those walls have seen, the stories they've heard – they whispered stories of poetry and drama and love – so I definitely added a little bit of that London history into my #PinkTutuBlogLondon photos, you'll have to check it out!

Art & Glamour:

Of course, my little pink ballerina wouldn’t leave London without a visit to the Victoria & Albert Museum, right? It’s a haven for all things creative and fashionable – there’s always something dazzling to discover there. I mean, this museum even boasts an entire Fashion section! It's always such a delight to lose myself amongst the displays of breathtaking historical costumes and intricate embroidery, and today's collection of Edwardian fashion inspired some amazing tutu ideas – can’t wait to play around with those and create a new ensemble for next week's #PinkTutuBlogLondon!

Foodie Heaven:

No day in London is complete without some fantastic eats, right? So I treated myself to a delicious afternoon tea at Fortnum & Mason, (because, come on, a pink-tutu-wearing ballerina wouldn’t miss the iconic tearoom). They have an exquisite selection of delightful pastries and sandwiches, plus, they have a dazzling selection of loose-leaf tea blends that even I (as a tea-lover extraordinaire) can't resist! And how could I forget their signature pink-tinted Fortnum’s champagne - absolutely delightful!

The Night’s Entertainment:

Of course, no visit to London is complete without catching a West End show, so I found myself whisked away to the enchanting Lyric Theatre. Today, I had the absolute privilege of experiencing the iconic musical "Phantom of the Opera.” You all know I'm an opera fan – and even if it was a musical, this production was absolutely breathtaking.

I just love getting swept away in the story, and this one just did that so wonderfully. And, yes, the pink-tutu-wearing ballerina in me also gasped at the beautiful chandeliers in the theatre – talk about dazzling! They could rival any ballet stage!

Ending on a Sweet Note:

What could be more fitting after a glorious day in London than a delicious homemade rhubarb crumble with custard? My evening was perfectly spent tucked away in my cozy apartment with a warm mug of chamomile tea, my trusty ballerina journals, and, yes, my beautiful pink tutu - ready for the next adventure!

So, London has officially whipped me back into that dreamy pink-tutu world I love. But what do you love most about London, my dearest Tutu-loving readers? Do you love to shop? Catch a theatre show? Eat an afternoon tea at Fortnum & Mason? I would absolutely love to know what makes London feel like a fairy tale to you! Let’s make every Friday a tutu-filled, fabulous day.

Until next week, my little Tutu-lovers, may your days be filled with sunshine and laughter. And of course, remember to always twirl in style!

With a big pink kiss,

Emma.
