Pink Tutu Blog: London Adventures - #897
Friday 2013-11-08
Hello darlings! It's Friday, and you know what that means! It's time for another Pink Tutu Blog post, straight from the heart of London town! This week I took the train from my lovely home in Derbyshire - can you believe I only packed my trusty pink tutu and a sparkly handbag?! (Don't worry, my trusty oversized sparkly pink suitcase was lurking somewhere in the background...)
I simply can't get enough of this incredible city. Itās just so vibrant, brimming with energy, and bursting with exciting sights. Of course, for me, London always holds the promise of something magnificent, from fabulous ballet shows to a dazzling fashion haul, but Iāve found that London is actually just as great for exploring - on foot, in the tube, or in my case, in a lovely little pink tutu, catching a ride on a charming vintage bus!
But before I bore you with all my wanderings, letās get straight to the point - what is a fabulous tutu girl to do in London on a Friday?
Firstly, the thing I love the most about Friday in London - it's the theatre! I always feel so incredibly excited when I'm in London for the theatre, it truly makes my heart sing. Tonight I'm lucky enough to be catching "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at Shakespeareās Globe Theatre. I simply have to wear a tutu for it, right? After all, everyone knows a tutu always fits in a dream. This Globe is really special because they've kept it super authentic, all thatched roof and cobblestone, it feels like stepping straight into a Shakespeare play!
Of course, London has so much more to offer than just theatres!
So letās talk fashion, darlings! London really is a fashion heaven, just as inspiring as Paris, in my opinion. I popped by the West End this afternoon and had to visit the beautiful, whimsical shop, Liberty London. Oh my, you know my love for all things lace and embellishments, and this place had it all! I snagged a pretty blush-coloured lace blouse, perfect for a twirl. I also spotted a pink and gold clutch - can't say no to anything shiny, can we?
Next stop - Covent Garden, of course! It's always a whirlwind of excitement, with street performers, artisan shops, and fabulous food. (I might have sampled a slice of that delicious salted caramel fudge, and hey, it was all for research purposes for the blog!).
But what makes Covent Garden so truly wonderful is the beautiful architecture - all those historic buildings are simply stunning. It's such a treat to walk around, soak up the atmosphere, and just appreciate the intricate detail in those buildings - did I tell you how much I adore architecture? (Remember that trip to Venice I did in July?! It was divine!)
It wasn't just architecture that caught my eye! This Friday the Market had all the best performers - the street performers. Covent Garden is so fabulous. All sorts of performers, jugglers, and the odd very strong-looking magician. The Market Square just becomes this crazy wonderful world of performance. This little gentleman in a straw hat tried to show me his ātrickā. All he had to do was make this bottle of water mysteriously vanishā¦ only to have his whole show crumble before he even started. I felt very sorry for him!
But Covent Garden truly came to life with a beautiful performance of āA Moment In The Worldā.
Now, you might wonder why I felt so inspired by that?
Because Covent Garden's main stage just happened to be where I performed this weekend! I had the honour of performing in 'A Moment in the World' as part of The Covent Garden Company for the International Dance Festival.
Yes, darlings! Me! Dancing under the lights in the centre of Covent Garden Market! Oh, my dear reader, I've simply never felt so alive. Just like in ballet class, except, well, this felt like a million times more thrilling! Everyone loved our ballet routine, a mix of classical and modern, I felt so energised and ready to conquer the world. I was dancing right there, in my very special, beautiful pink tutu - a vision of light and grace! (Okay, a touch of drama - we dancers like to make an entrance!)
The show finished, I packed up my tutu, gave a curtsy to my friends at the Covent Garden Company (theyāre such sweethearts!) and made my way over to The Globe to see my beloved Shakespeare.
This weekend truly felt magical, full of laughter, fun and exciting experiences - and I haven't even talked about the incredible ballet shows, those glorious Parisian pastries I ate with a good cuppa in a pretty tea shop (just perfect for an afternoon in London, by the way!) and, of course, the endless exploration of charming little streets.
London never fails to deliver! Itās just the perfect mix of history, culture, beauty, and endless possibilities.
As I write this post, itās quite late - just got back to my little hotel, my feet a little weary but my heart overflowing with happiness. But let me tell you, there's no such thing as too tired for a little dance party with a sparkly pink tutu!
Now Iām going to indulge in some Earl Grey tea with a sprinkle of sugar (because I'm a very fancy girl!) and I'll be dreaming of more London adventures. I promise to bring you back here next Friday to share my experiences, a whole new adventure to inspire you and share some fun fashion tips!
I hope youāve enjoyed this glimpse into my life in London! I canāt wait for you all to join me on this wild and wonderful journey of tutu-wearing, exploring, and celebrating the beauty of life! Don't forget, darling, always keep your head up, smile at strangers, and never forget the magic of a beautiful pink tutu!
Until next time, Emma x
