Pink Tutu Blog London: Post #930: Friday 2014-06-27 A Whirlwind of London Delights

Hello my lovely Tutu Tribe! It’s Emma here, back from a fabulous weekend in the big smoke! London, my absolute favourite city, where dreams dance on cobblestones and sparkle in shop windows.

I'm thrilled to share this post with you today, as it’s a testament to how much London and ballet have intertwined in my heart. After all, it's all thanks to performing a beautiful rendition of Swan Lake at The Derby Theatre last weekend that I managed to fund this magical trip! My passion for ballet fuels so many other adventures in my life, and it truly never gets old.

London By Train: A Pink Tutu Traveller

This time, my journey to London started at Derby train station, with my trusty, hand-stitched, pale pink tutu (naturally) packed in my suitcase, alongside a selection of London-ready outfits - think tailored coats, quirky brogues and a vibrant array of pink hues!

The train ride was just magical - watching the green English countryside melt away into the vast urban sprawl, anticipation swirling in my stomach like a perfect pirouette. The rhythm of the tracks echoed the heartbeat of my adventure, setting the perfect tempo for the day ahead.

London’s Buzzing Vibe: Finding My Pink Paradise

London, how I love thee! It was so invigorating to arrive at Euston Station, feel the electric energy of the city pulsating in the air, hear the constant symphony of buskers, and see the rainbow of humanity that paints its streets.

Stepping out of the station, the first thing I noticed was the captivating fragrance of street food, which led me to a little tucked-away market teeming with flavour, laughter, and music. I tucked into a delicious veggie burger, relishing the delightful chaotic symphony of London life swirling around me.

The Ballet Buzz:

I’m absolutely living for London’s ballet scene! This trip wouldn’t be complete without indulging in the elegance and grace of some stunning ballet performances. This Friday, the Royal Opera House hosted the world premiere of a new work by a contemporary choreographer. It was utterly breathtaking, a symphony of emotion, passion, and beautifully choreographed movements that left me speechless. I just love the thrill of seeing cutting edge work, watching the stories unfold in this graceful, evocative language.

Later that evening, I indulged in the spectacle of West End Theatre, immersing myself in a visually stunning performance of a classic musical that I absolutely adore. This blend of storytelling, music, dance, and stunning visuals really captivated me. The city simply drips with opportunities to experience the magic of ballet and theatre, a truly perfect marriage for my love of art and dance.

Pink Tutu Power: Finding My Style

Fashion, as you all know, is my jam! Shopping in London is always an absolute dream. It’s a veritable fashion feast! It’s no wonder the city is the global capital of trends, a hotbed for creatives and a veritable kaleidoscope of style.

I spent an afternoon in Covent Garden, wandering through independent boutiques, antique shops, and vintage finds. The streets buzzed with street style inspiration, with quirky outfits and bold choices, and of course, my own eye for all things fabulous. I couldn’t resist picking up a charming, hand-painted tote bag (with a cute ballet shoe design, of course!) that would perfectly hold my new purchases: a beautiful scarf featuring delicate ballet dancers, and a stunning pair of vintage gloves with whimsical pearl buttons.

Later, I headed to Oxford Street for some high street heaven. I was completely drawn to a little boutique crammed with unique vintage clothing. It was a paradise of patterns, colours, and textures, where each piece whispered a story. I found myself slipping into a dazzling scarlet velvet blazer and a pair of vintage pink tights, the perfect match for my Tutu.

From Tea Rooms to Street Art: A Delightful Day

My love for London runs much deeper than fashion and dance! The city pulsates with so much charm, hidden nooks, and bustling market squares. After a morning filled with theatre, I wandered through Notting Hill, exploring charming little tea shops that smelled of cinnamon and ginger. I sipped on a pot of Earl Grey, relishing the peace and quiet while sketching in my little notebook. It was the perfect opportunity to capture my thoughts and feelings about this magical city.

Later, I journeyed to the East End and fell in love with its urban beauty, especially its eclectic art scene. The street art in Shoreditch is an explosion of colours and creativity, every wall a canvas telling its own story. The raw energy of the murals was truly inspiring and so very different from the polished beauty of Westminster Abbey which I visited that morning. I just adore London's ability to be both gritty and glamorous, eclectic and refined.

London's Final Bow: A City Full of Memories

As the sun dipped down below the city, I stood on Tower Bridge, mesmerized by the vibrant cityscape glowing under the evening sky. It was time for my train journey back to Derby. The thought of leaving made my heart flutter. It's funny how such a grand, imposing city like London can leave you with a feeling of warmth and belonging. I took a deep breath and let the sights, sounds, and emotions of the day sink in. This trip was a beautiful reminder that every moment in this city, no matter how fleeting, weaves itself into a memory tapestry.

Back in Derbyshire, the quiet calm of my hometown feels even more peaceful. Yet, in my heart, the city still resonates with me, its rhythm echoing within the gentle sway of my pink tutu. The memories of laughter, beautiful music, sparkling street lights, and the infectious energy of London keep me feeling truly inspired.

Thank you for joining me on this London escapade, dear readers! Until next week, keep those pink tutus twirling!

Love always,

Emma
