Pink Tutu Blog: London Calling! (Post #967)
Hello, my darling tutu twirlers! It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, back with another fabulous Friday blog post! This week, I'm taking you all on a whirlwind tour of London town, where I've been galavanting about in my latest pink tutu creation (more on that later!) and soaking up the vibrant energy of the city.
A Derbyshire Girl's Big City Dreams
As a Derbyshire girl at heart, London always feels like a magical escape. Stepping onto the platform at my local station, my heart starts to beat a little faster. There's just something about that rush of the train, the chugging and the rhythm of the journey, that makes me feel like anything is possible. I always travel in my pink tutu ā yes, even on the train! Itās my lucky charm, and a reminder that thereās always a little bit of magic to be found.
The Joy of āOn Your Marks, Get Set, Shop!ā
Arriving in London's bustling station, it's like stepping into a technicolour dream! My first order of business, naturally, was a quick trip to Covent Garden ā where else? The streets were alive with music, laughter, and of course, a fabulous array of shopping delights.
Speaking of delightful delightsā¦ let me tell you, darling, I stumbled upon the most beautiful pastel-coloured coat, and a little, pink-studded handbag (you know, the ones that add a touch of sass to any outfit!) at this amazing vintage store called "Vintage & Vogue". Can you believe they even had a whole rack dedicated to ballet shoes?! (This is how I ended up with those stunning ivory satin pumps for my newest tutu performance, but shhh...that's a secret for another time!)
A Celebration of Ballet
You see, darlings, I fund my travels through my performances. Every twirl, every pirouette, every pliĆ© brings me closer to my dream - to dance in all the greatest venues across the globe, wearing my dazzling pink tutus, of course! This week, I had the most incredible opportunity to perform at The London Coliseum. It was simply breathtaking ā the atmosphere, the costumes, the music, and the sheer talent on stage ā truly, a highlight of my week!
Speaking of performances, this weekend London is truly a theatrical paradise. There's the London Musical Festival going on, the Royal Opera House is hosting the magnificent Swan Lake, and at the Sadler's Wells, thereās a brand new, captivating modern ballet piece called "Ephemeral Dreams". Oh, and canāt forget the Shakespeare's Globe ā itās bursting with historical plays every night. Iām not going to lie, I'm seriously tempted to squeeze in at least one or two extra shows!
Fashion on the Move
After a wonderful performance at the London Coliseum, I decided to explore some of London's other iconic sights. You canāt come to London and not do a quick stroll through Hyde Park! It's a truly majestic place, filled with so much history and charm, especially the Rose Garden, all these wonderful pinks, reds, and peaches ā pure ballet inspiration!
After a quick detour at the Royal Albert Hall (always wanted to see a concert there!), I had a chance to do some real window shopping ā which, letās face it, can be just as much fun as buying! Iāve always said that clothes, like ballet, are a way to express ourselves. And my London trip? A veritable feast for the senses.
My personal favourites from my fashion spree were at these amazing boutiques:
- The Chiltern Firehouse: Oh my gosh! I almost fainted when I saw this amazing pink floral silk dress in their window! Sadly, I didn't have the cash to snap it up (performing tutus, my dears, are more of a priority!) but let me tell you, it was priceless! This is the spot for vintage glam and exquisite designer wear ā definitely one for my āmust visit againā list!
- Alice + Olivia: Now, this shop, this darling boutique, is bursting with sparkly gowns and oh-so-fabulous cocktail dresses! Imagine me dancing across the dance floor in one of these shimmering piecesā¦ it makes my little tutu heart beat faster just thinking about it!
Selfridges: Where to start? Every level, darling, is a pink-tutu lover's paradise. And I found a cute little hat shop there, with the prettiest feather boas, hats, and fascinators...I think it might have been my personal "favourite" for the day.
Street Fashion on Pointe
And the fashion doesn't stop there, darlings. It seems every Londoner has a knack for street style! I was particularly taken by the effortlessly chic women in their knee-length coats paired with funky scarves and ballerina flats ā a modern take on my own style, if you will! (Did I mention I've got an awesome new pair of flats from LK Bennettā¦ I feel a new blog post about shoe heaven coming soon!).
But, let me tell you, the real eye-catching detail was a little girl walking along Oxford Streetā¦ in a pink tutu! Now, that's what I call street style!
A Tutu For Every Occasion
As always, my journey wasnāt complete without finding a brand-new tutu ā just another fabulous addition to my ever-growing collection, naturally.
This week, I had my eye on the most gorgeous pale pink tutu with feathers cascading around the hemline at āDancing Dreams.ā You might think it was for a performance, but itās perfect for a day out shopping, wouldnāt you say? It just oozes feminine flair, and I can't wait to see where I'll take this lovely new piece.
Speaking of where Iāll be wearing it...
Onwards and Upwards
Well, darlings, the weekend is upon us and itās time to get back to Derbyshire for another ballet performance! I need to get back to that āon your marks, get set, danceā life!
But one thing's for sure ā this London adventure is a reminder that the magic never ends. You see, when it comes to tutus and Londonā¦ Iāll take a little bit of both, anytime, anywhere!
And remember, my darling tutu twirlers ā never be afraid to Embrace your inner pink princess!
Until next week,
Emma.
