Pink Tutu Blog London #1092: A Pink-tastic Day in the Capital!
Hello darlings! It's Friday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Blog London post! This week, I traded the rolling hills of Derbyshire for the bustling streets of London, all in the name of a love for ballet and, of course, pink tutus!
A Journey of Pink & Poise
My journey started bright and early, fuelled by a delicious pink smoothie (because what else?!) and the promise of an adventure in the capital. I adore the thrill of travelling by train; watching the landscape whizz by outside my window, feeling the gentle rocking, and admiring all the stylishly-dressed passengers - there's something so glamorous about train travel!
Speaking of glamorous, this week's outfit was a vibrant hot pink tutu with a silver waistband and a chic ivory blazer layered on top, topped off with my trusty pink fedora. You see, I believe you can wear a pink tutu anywhere, even on a train journey to London!
The Ballet Buzz
This weekend was all about experiencing the magic of London's vibrant ballet scene. My first stop was a fantastic performance by the English National Ballet, a treat that left me spellbound! It was a mix of traditional elegance and breathtaking modern choreography - the dancers were absolutely phenomenal! Afterwards, I had a chat with a fellow tutu-lover - we discussed our shared passion for the art form and even got a photo with some of the dancers!
Shopping for the Soul
No trip to London is complete without some retail therapy, especially for a tutu enthusiast like myself! My favourite haunts in the city are Liberty London, with its beautiful décor and a whole floor dedicated to fabrics - a true dream for any seamstress (myself included!), and the quirky, vintage delights of Portobello Road Market, where you can unearth some real gems!
A Bite of British Delights
Of course, no London day is complete without a scrumptious bite to eat. Today's treat was afternoon tea at the Fortnum & Mason tearoom - a luxurious and whimsical experience. Everything was perfectly prepared, from the delicate sandwiches to the freshly-baked scones, and of course, a generous serving of pink macarons! It's just the kind of tea party that would make even the Queen blush.
Street Performance Sizzle
In the evening, I enjoyed a charming little performance on Covent Garden, a troupe of young dancers weaving magical tales with their movement. It’s incredible to see the vibrant energy of the performing arts community, showcasing their passion for dance right on the street, for anyone to witness! This energy is absolutely infectious and inspires me to embrace life with the same joy and vibrance.
London Luminous at Night
Walking along the Thames at night, with the city's lights sparkling across the water, was truly breathtaking. The sheer scale of London at night is simply awe-inspiring. And you know, my pink tutu even stood out against the cityscape - a beautiful splash of colour amongst the glittering skyline.
Friday’s Favourites
So what’s on the schedule today? It's the Friday evening in August, which means there are a few events in town I'm dying to catch.
“This Is Now” Exhibition at the Barbican This exhibit highlights contemporary music from across the globe - a real treat for those of us who love exploring different sounds and genres. It also provides a fascinating glimpse into the history and impact of music today.
Opera in the Park An open-air performance in Hyde Park – it's always such a fantastic atmosphere to see an opera performed outdoors, surrounded by the vibrant colours of a London sunset. And it doesn't hurt that Hyde Park itself is breathtaking!
Open-air theatre performance at Regent's Park An absolutely magical setting, combining the allure of open-air theatre with the romantic ambiance of a London park. A perfect way to embrace the city's summer evenings.
The West End – Musical Theatre Mania If you're looking for something dazzling and captivating, London's West End offers an endless array of brilliant musical performances. My personal favourites include ‘Moulin Rouge!’ – a high-energy extravaganza of music, colour, and sheer extravagance!
Funding My Fun
I know what you're thinking - "Emma, you travel to London a lot! How do you afford all this?". The secret to my adventures lies in my love for ballet performance. As you know, I’ve always had a strong connection to ballet. The stage is where my heart really thrives - each dance and twirl a journey of expression. I perform at many different venues and festivals throughout the year, and this allows me to fund my passion for travelling and sharing my love for ballet and fashion with you all!
Spread the Pink Tutu Love
You know, one of the things I find most exciting is seeing people from all walks of life embrace the power of the pink tutu! It's more than just a piece of clothing; it's a symbol of confidence, creativity, and joy.
Pink Tutu Fashion for London
Here are some ideas for pink tutu outfits that I recommend for exploring the bustling streets of London:
Daytime Chic: A classic black dress, a hot pink tutu draped over it as a stylish layer, finished with a wide-brimmed black hat.
Evening Glamour: A flowing maxi dress with a subtle hint of pink - maybe a pink floral print or a single, vibrant pink detail - with a tulle-lined pink bolero for an elegant, playful touch. Top it off with a statement pink clutch.
Weekend Casual: A white t-shirt, boyfriend jeans, and a pale pink tutu for a casual yet whimsical look. Don't forget your favourite pink trainers!
