Pink Tutu Blog London - Post #1311 - Friday 15th October 2021

Oh my darling readers, can you believe it’s Friday again? This week has flown by, a blur of rehearsals, class and even a little bit of sunshine. But I’m back from Derbyshire, all ready to unleash my inner Londoner and explore this fabulous city, my second home. You see, the allure of London always beckons – with its stunning theatres, magnificent ballet shows, and shops, oh those shops! They just make my tutu-clad heart skip a beat.

As always, I’ve hopped on the train from Derbyshire. You know how much I love the railway. It's such a romantic way to travel! The scenery whizzes past in a blur of greens and browns as you feel that thrill of heading to somewhere new and exciting. Plus, I get to rock my tutu in public – nothing like a little tulle-infused glamour for a train journey, right?

This week I’ve been absolutely spoilt for choice when it comes to the world of ballet! And let me tell you, there’s something about seeing a performance on stage that just brings a twinkle to your eye! So, after unpacking and popping on my fanciest tutu (it's a pale pink, a real showstopper, with shimmering sequins), I’m heading to the Royal Opera House for an incredible treat. The Royal Ballet is putting on ‘Giselle’ and let’s be honest, you just can't miss out on a classic like that. Imagine a heart-wrenching love story, intricate choreography, and ethereal beauty! This performance will be all the more magical in a building as steeped in history and grandeur as the Royal Opera House. It’s the perfect start to a day dedicated to all things glamorous and graceful.

But it wouldn’t be a Friday in London without a spot of retail therapy! So, I'm taking a detour from the Covent Garden delights for a visit to the amazing Liberty. Have you ever been there, darlings? You must! This place is a haven of colours, textures, and designs! You just never know what treasure you’re going to unearth – think exquisite fabrics, beautiful hats and shoes (my favourite!) that would make even a Parisian fashionista weep with joy. They say it’s not just about the shopping, it’s about the experience! And Liberty really knows how to deliver on that front. They've got these gorgeous tea rooms with afternoon tea – imagine those dainty sandwiches, scones, and endless cups of tea! How can one possibly resist?!

London always throws up a delightful surprise or two. I had heard whispers about this fabulous pop-up dance festival going on in Greenwich! London Dance Festival is a celebration of contemporary dance. Think powerful expressions, intricate footwork, and a touch of the unexpected. You can feel the energy just bursting through the floor! I’m particularly interested in the immersive experiences that London Dance Festival offers, like 'Ballet Under the Stars' – imagine swaying to graceful ballet movements, enjoying the soft glow of the evening stars, all whilst feeling the magic of the open air. They say it's like watching a dream unfold right before your eyes.

To finish my day of exploring the heart and soul of London, I’m heading to one of my favourite venues - the West End, a melting pot of lights, laughter, and a touch of magic! This evening, I'm experiencing the iconic ‘Moulin Rouge’! It’s a feast for the senses – feathers, costumes, dazzling dance routines! And the soundtrack is absolutely fantastic. ‘Moulin Rouge’ blends the glamorous, the poignant, and the downright spectacular. If you're ever in London, you're simply missing out if you don’t see it. This will be the perfect finale to my perfect Friday, as the magic of the show will linger in my heart until the train journey back to Derbyshire.

Until next week my dears, remember to wear a little pink and embrace the joy of tutus. Life is far too short to be serious!

Love, Emma x

P.S. I know what you're thinking... "Where's the ballet class?". Well, don’t you worry! That’s part of my Saturday routine - my trusty pink tutu is getting a good workout!
